I recommend this game even though the Dev is on hiatus (last community hub update 6/2/26). When the Dev took a break from the game, so did I. I am presently TOUCHING GRASS since it is Summer. Give it a try (both the game and the grass part). Wishing the Dev well! Please come back when refreshed and do more great things. Folks with 10-20 hours played in game need to refrain from negative feedback. I would encourage everyone to read the Early Access FAQ before buying this, and any other game with that designation. Timetables are completely at the discretion of the Dev and could change at any time. You didn't purchase GTA VI here, quit acting so entitled. In its present state, the game is FUN and whimsical. It is what you make of it. Stop being a bully because you can hide behind an online persona. I purchased the game in Oct '25 for $5.99 while on sale. Even at its current price, I think it is a bargain. Consider this, for the cost of less than one singular Coffee Beverage (or) a Happy Meal, you are gaining EARLY ACCESS to a one-person dev team passion project. This includes hours worth of game play and a title you own. I am willing to bet complainers have spent more $$$ on far more frivolous things. I presently have 131 hours of playtime and have yet to feel bored or that I have exhausted all the current content. To date, I have: -'Disposed of' many Zambies and Bad Guys!! -Built a base and decided to totally uproot it because I found a newer, favorite location to settle in. -Built a new amazing base that I continue to add on to. -Stored more clean water and food than I could ever consume. -Have yet to even visit the second survivor's main hub. -Finding rare decoration items to furnish your crib is like a mini scavenger hunt, still don't have em all. -In early game, I found myself caught at night without a flash light and compass. Give that a try. -I have OCD organized my lil' Slice o' Heaven base with various workshops and rooms. -I have tried to collect as many vehicles for my garage as possible, still don't have em all. -I have tried to collect all the named epic items, still don't have em all or the specialized attachments. -Spent hours hunting and fishing. -Been killed by more surprise bear attacks than I care to admit. -I have visited several POIs (still not all yet) and hazarded the Air Field and other similar more dangerous areas a few times (Folks with 10 hours in cannot possibly have done full clears on Secret Hidden Labs, The Observatory, the Oil Rig, +more. After 131 hours, I still have yet to visit these locations). -I have laptops and radar antennas and have yet to use them for Horde Mode Fun. Gun of Choice: Maxed-Out 'Lechie' :D

We need multiplayer
Has potential but too many issues right now to play regularly. Some that come to mind: - Spawning near acid zombies is awful, with nothing but a melee weapon you are taking way too much damage when they explode. - enemies spawning in randomly or late and then randomly getting swarmed is not fun - auto save doesn't seem to work at all - finding vehicle repair kits is almost impossible - lots of enemies have trouble getting around objects (especially stairs) - no load game from menu while you are in game - loot overall is too rng (ex. killed a boss which gave me 2 random weapon attachments for weapons i have never even seen)
Abandoned for going on their third early access zombie game. Hope it catches up to them.
Nota Geral | Overall Rating
At the time of this review, SurrounDead is still in Early Access, being developed by a single developer, and that needs to be clear before any evaluation. The game has great potential, proposing a post-apocalyptic open world survival experience where exploration, vehicle management, and confrontations with zombies and human survivors form the core of the experience. But since it isn't a finished game, anything can happen in the future, for better or worse, and this rating reflects the current state, not what the game promises to become.
Jogabilidade | Gameplay
The gameplay loop revolves around exploring the open map in search of resources, managing and maintaining vehicles, which serve both as transportation and portable storage, and trading with other survivors at trading posts and safe zones. The current mechanics work, but there are still layers of depth missing, especially in combat against humans and zombies, to keep exploration from starting to feel repetitive after a few hours.
In the current early access state, the available content lasts long enough to understand what the game is going for, but it's still too early to judge the real length the title will offer once it's complete. The roadmap shared by the developer includes plans like dynamic world events, online multiplayer, a quest and bounty system, and an evolving storyline, which suggests that number should grow considerably as development progresses.
Enredo | Story
The plot is still being built, just like the rest of the game, and presents only the basics: five years have passed since civilization lost its fight against the virus, and the player must survive on their own in a devastated world. There isn't much to evaluate here yet, but it also wouldn't be fair to expect a robust narrative from a game that clearly prioritizes survival and exploration at this stage of development.
Visual
Visually, the game does the basics without major ambitions, which is understandable for a title still being developed by a single developer. The open environments and vehicles are functional, but still lack more polish and their own visual identity to stand out in a genre already quite saturated with zombie survival games.
The audio does what's needed to build tension during encounters with zombies and hostile survivors, but doesn't yet have the sound identity that more mature games in the genre tend to develop. This is an area that will likely get more attention as development progresses and the roadmap is fulfilled.
over a year abandoned. do not waste your money
Its actually a fun game, but its been abandoned. Single player only, multiplayer never came.
Dev gave up and left the game unfinished. There's a good 2-3 hours of decent content before becoming mind-numbingly repetitive. More early access rug pull slop.
