"Sega is not a retro games company." "Sega's main pillars are Sonic, Yakuza, and Persona." "All of Sega's retro games other than Sonic will be delisted on December 6th 2024." This release is the last surviving remnant of what Sega used to be: Darn good arcade games. Super Monkey Ball was created during an awkward twilight for Sega, when the Naomi was still thriving and popular, but the Dreamcast had died. Super Monkey Ball was astounding because it was an arcade IP that successfully transitioned into the home console space and stuck in the mind of gamers in a way that After Burner and Galaxy Force didn't. The tough-as-nails gameplay with no apologies gained a huge following, partly because of the cute characters and iconic stage design. The Deluxe Edition is mandatory. Pony up the extra $2.50 (sale price). For the extra $2.50, you get $10 worth of DLC (combined sale price), including a classic soundtrack pack. The classic soundtrack DLC greatly improves the experience for me. I find the original soundtrack uncomfortable. I find the menu design grating also, similar to but worse than the modern Puyo releases. The ultrawide support is also real nice (thank you!).
Mi juego favorito de las maquinitas cuando era pequeña, muy entretenido, muy divertido, muy completoooooo, lo amabamos mi mejor amiga y yo <3
Normally i like those frustrating but addicted Sega Games. But Bad Controls, Bad Physics and a Bad Camera makes it sometimes nearly impossble to clear a level for me. Sega should have polished it some more before or after release. What a shame. The Game Series was awesome back in the Days.
I paid money for this. That's really the worst part.
Edit: Disregard most of what I wrote below, Banana Mania is actually good, and the physics are just different, not better or worse. Monkey Target is still unacceptable unless you know the trick of going slightly downward to keep going straight. Super Monkey Ball is one of the handful of games that I can derive joy from. JUST BUY IT RIGHT NOW. Original review: I gave it a chance. When I read the bad reviews from speedrunners and how bad the physics were, surely they had to be exaggerating. That's what die hard fans usually do. WRONG. The speedrunners were right. The physics are indeed terrible and some levels (looking at you, Exam C) require manual cheesing of the camera in order to complete. Otherwise, the monkey balls feel super floaty, like they're on a sheet of butter as another reviewer mentioned. I haven't touched the minigames so I can't assess those here. Finally the graphics love to stutter despite my system handling the emulated versions at 4K and the online port at 4K 144Hz perfectly. The good news is, though, that you can play as the other monkeys, and Jet was my favorite out of all them. The other good thing about Banana Mania is how girls love cute monkeys so I'll keep BM around just for that. Edit: I'm changing this to a thumbs up. The special modes (reverse, dark banana) are interesting enough to make SMBBM worth a try.
HELLO HELLO HELLO HELLO BANANA
i like the monkey game. i love monkey games. my controller worked immediately out of the box, using windows 11 + an 8bitdo wired controller. i wanted to mention it bc some people struggled with their controllers and i wanted to express that is atleast not everybody's issue. hope u enjoy the monkey too.
