I came to this game because I'd played the other games Tsuyomi had composed, and I liked their music, so I figured I'd check this one out. But uh, I guess this is why you don't pick games based on the composer... this one stinks. It's a boss-based "shoot em up" (and I say that term loosely because it doesn't follow any of the design conventions of the genre) with pastel and neon colors blaring into your eyeballs for a very modest and short runtime (I did everything in less than 90 minutes). I don't really feel like I was playing for most of that time though; I'm not even sure how I did it because I didn't know what was going on half of the time because of the lack of visual clarity, but I pretty much didn't die until the final boss. The bosses just shoot bullets, and you reflect them back by shooting your own. So, for 90 minutes, of my life, I waited until I saw a swarm of bullets coming at me, and then I pressed the big A button on my controller to reflect them back. And then the enemy health bar went down. And then I did it again until the boss was dead. All bosses took a minute or two at most. And then I did it 29 more times until the game was over. Yippee? There was barely any wrinkles to the boss design outside of that. You can unlock other characters to use but honestly it's basically the same gameplay. Your other unlock is a bunch of pallette swaps, so you can choose to play the game in puke green or dim red. Awesome. The final boss was the first sign of challenge, but its design was frankly pretty frustrating. So weird to have a game where for the other 29 bosses I barely looked at the screen (not kidding) for them to all of a sudden give you a decent challenge in the finale. I genuinely don't understand the positive reviews for this game. I see no merit in it whatsoever. Well, except the music is alright, I guess. Which I suppose is what I came for.

A lot of fun to play and beat. Even if I am still not entirely sure how the damage scaling works
Creative mechanics creating a puzzle/shoot 'em up hybrid and distilling them down in unique ways. Such a delight to play!

Its okay. The sprite work is all cute and the mechanics are unique in that you need to put yourself in the line of fire to both regain ammo and fire back enemy bullets for extra damage. In practice you end up having so much ammo that you basically never have to dodge anything. There is a little replayability with all the extra characters and chasing a 3 star rank, but the ranks are purely time based and easy to tank through. The exception being the final boss which is totally RNG dependent. Just a very simple game that offers exactly what you pay for. Nothing more nothing less.
