Demonizer is one of those vertical arcade shoot ’em up games that is succubus themed. I love it so much. The music is great also the story. Adorable design 🖤
[th] Review by Gaming Masterpieces - The greatest games of all time on Steam. [/th]
How do so many enemies and bullets fit into such a tiny (16 MB) download? This game may not be an ultimate masterpiece, but it's a damn fine bullet hell shmups with tight controls, really fast bullets and challenging levels. Enemy variety is high, the bossfigts are well orchestrated, the pixel art is rather detailled, and of course the story is cheesy as hell. Capture the souls of your slain foes and transform them into monsters to fight with you. Although there are 3 difficulty settings, I already struggled to finish on the lowest - there are so many bullets on the screen, it is like HELL. Fortunately you unlock the 7 levels permanently and can restart from your last unfinished level. Conclusion: An enjoyable shmups - killing your sister was never so much fun!

Was very excited to play this based on gameplay videos. I've got a long history with shmups, and they're some of my favorite games. I've beaten some serious hardcore games before and was ready for a fun challenge. Unfortunately, all I got was a ruined evening full of disappointment. This game starts very strong but each level brings less enjoyment and more annoyance than the last. While the controls are very solid, many patterns are simply unpredictable inconsistent random garbage. It feels like you're expected to 1CC the whole game and always have full power. If you die before the boss, you might as well reset the stage. If you die on the boss, your chances of winning pretty much go out the window. Midbosses have a ridiculous amount of health, and several of them are positioned right before the boss with no checkpoint. Those levels might as well have two bosses. The highway level is painful to look at, the flickering background making it difficult to see what I was doing and just generally wearing on my eyes as I threw myself at it over and over again. Every run through was a different annoying pattern to learn because some enemies explode into projectiles on death, and killing them at different times would produce entirely different patterns. Many bosses summon tons of unnecessary adds that do nothing but flood the screen with extra patterns that have little to no cohesiveness with the boss's pattern. This forces you to evade, and if you don't have extra power you can't use homing shots so you're not dealing damage if you're not right below the boss. Because you have to be evading these extra patterns, boss fights are prolonged way farther than they need to be. It's just padding. I really wanted to like this game, and I gave it as many chances as I could before I was ready to send my controller across my house. The great pixel art and fantastic soundtrack could not make up for the abominable pacing and enemy groupings. As of the time I'm writing this review I give the game about a 5/10. It has promise and potential, and I believe it is definitely salvageable if the developers update it.
very thanks for dev giving me the chance to review the game my steam curator: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/35933227/
Let's start with the cute story: You're a succubus that was a human princess once, but is now very happy with her demonic destiny and the peaceful life among her demonkind. Until human invaders arrive, led by your human sister, prepared to annihilate your new home and friends. Leaving you no other choice, it's now your turn to fight back these evil humans and confront your former royal relatives with your all new demonic powers of love! Now you already know why the power-ups have the shape of a heart. Despite the twisted story and the atypical setting, the gameplay all in all is mostly that of a traditional bullet hell shmup that comes with, well, power-ups, smart bombs, focus movement (revealing your hitbox) and a related focused shot. One uncommon thing is that you can power-up your weapon in the guise of resurected bodies turning into fellow demons. While normally flanking you (increasing the hit field of your shot), these companions can also move around the screen freely, taking down foes and collecting hearts. This is pretty cool and feels very powerful. Another very unusual thing is, how some enemies are interacting with their environment, with the background. Most of the time you fight foot soldiers on the ground, not the typical vehicles or flying fairies. These troopers (or even bosses) are uncommonly embedded into the background, for example they can take cover behind sandbags, trees or even go into houses! This provides some really funny and unconventionally playful moments for a shmup. It sometimes actually gave me the feeling of a shmup taking place in a 16-bit JRPG world. The backgrounds and enemies seem to be modelled after those a bit, most noticeable maybe at the second boss. The bosses are also something that probably would surprise and maybe would disappoint some players. They're all small, most of the time even smaller than your own character sprite. It's comparable to Touhou in this regard, but without the stunning bullet patterns. Yet I find this kinda refreshing and charming, especially when the bosses take advantage of their surroundings, as described above. Music! It comes from a YM2612 chip. So if you like how a Mega Drive rocks, you will love it. The game features some great and catchy compositions, but they're more on the smoother side, not the crazy stuff you can hear in something like M.U.S.H.A. Even on normal difficulty, I would say that Demonizer is not the perfect starting point for beginners, at least technically. If you have fun with it, go for it. The game is incredible accessible for the player that wants to practice and become good at it: Every stage, as well as its checkpoint and its boss fight are immediately separately selectable for training after just reaching (not beating) that stage in the "campaign" (actually the arcade mode). So you can, for example, practice your latest boss fight even before facing it in a regular arcade run. Overall I absolutely enjoy playing Demonizer and can see it becoming one of my favorite shmups.
Easily one of the best shmup out there. Extremely creative and polished title. 8 stages of non stop action, with a lot of diversity. Beautiful sprites and soundtrack. Challenging, but fair difficulty. A must have for any shmup lover.
