A big improvement on the Vampire Survivors formula. Choosing your "main" weapon beforehand skips the annoying part of VS where you simply build the build that turns the game into an idle killscreen slideshow with item locks & skips (which while admittedly fun, does get old after a while) into a much more *active* and involved game. People who like that are still well served here as well, as the "infinite" mode will easily have you clearing out entire screens with massive amounts of abilities (no equip caps!) Characters are also a lot more varied and different then VS's as well, as they're more then a side buff and starting loadout and cover a bunch of playstyles. There's also stacking challenges, Blitz mode for a faster run, and more things to be added in the future. This is a pretty good game, and at its price point it is very strong deal.
The game is neuron activation. Kill fish. Get level up. Kill more fish. Repeat. Makes me hungee for sushi. Good game. Buy it.
Since original review I've played another 23 hours. Lots of different ways to play depending on hero chosen and upgrades provided. The progression system allows making the levels much harder to get more rewards and speed up unlocks. I do with the developer would make sound effects more unique, I'm still not able to make out which sound is dodge ready and damage/minute buff noise. Game is much more deep than the screen shots give it credit for, a ton of customization and each run has felt unique. Having a lot of fun with it so far.
It's a fairly solid and enjoyable survivors game, especially good for its low price range. I consider it easily worth the three dollars for the time you could put into it especially since it is still in its infancy and has more planned, the character abilities and weapons quite diverse. The soundtrack is also easy to listen to and enjoy, and the simpler artstyle easy on the eyes. The devs are also fairly active and listen to input, so feel free to give them a shout
So far really enjoying this game. There's already a large variety of weapons, characters and upgrades so repeat runs stay fresh and interesting. "Blitz" mode is nice for quick runs, easy to lose track of time and spend hours playing "just one more run". I recommend turning on the visibility setting to help when things start to get busy but otherwise has been great and easy to get into. Looking forward to seeing more characters and updates!
This game exceeds expectations for being in such an early release. There is so much content to go through and more to come. I highly recommend getting it, especially for how cheap it is.
You can't see what upgrades you have at the moment. Visual clarity is horrible, all the enemies, their attacks, your attacks, your abilities, your summons and other objects you create - they all have the same brightness, opacity. The option of "visual clarity" that is supposed to help does nothing. Lots of stuff doesn't work. Like upgrades, passives. No indication of anything. You can gather "metal fragments" that boosts your attack, but how much do you have? Who knows. You can use those metal fragments if you pick up other upgrades (nice, I'm gathering stuff to boost my attack but I'm constantly spending it), but since you don't know how many fragments you have, it's impossible to know if you'll be able to use your abilities. There are a lot of upgrades to "build" stuff (like turrents, lightning rods etc). But every few minutes you are transferred to another level, and those buildings don't follow you, so you actually waste a lot of upgrades and start very week every level if you choose to specialize in the building side. There are tons of upgrades, but most of them feel INHUMANELY weak. Like, +0.3 to the size of your weapon swing. Even when I tried, I couldn't spot the difference. What about +0.5% attack speed? Or "every 40 seconds summon a thing that attacks once and leave". Enemies are constantly killed off-screen by random projectiles and abilities. They drop exp there. Pickup range is abysmal, so it constantly feels irritating to go and gather all this exp. Especially if you have a build "don't move to be stronger". There no synergies in upgrades, too. In other games (at least, good ones) you have stuff like "attacks burn enemies" + "every time you burn an enemy, you heal" + "every time you heal, you launch projectiles". There is no such thing here, so you just stack random upgrades. Among the upgrades, you can encounter some that allow you to convert one upgrades into another. But since there is no description of anything, you are just converting "pink lipstick" into "pile of tea bags" - go figure. The description is also non-existent for a lot of stuff. "Sometime you enter a Zen state, Sometime you enter ♥♥♥♥ state" - that's the description of an upgrades. Yay. I can keep going. And all this is just from several games. I can't imaging what else is there. Looks like all the positive reviews are from the dev's team, friends, family, or outright bought out.
I wondered why a pack of fries would attack me but then understood that it was some kind of hermit crab. Would recommend, much more advanced than most VS-clones so far, and just fresh out of EA.
