Do I like the story and the concept of the game? Yes. Can I recommend it? No. It isn't a bad game, but it lacks optimization. The animations are not smooth. It's literally: "pig hit wolf, wolf, hit pig" on repeat. Your units need to walk from the town to the battle lines. It may work in theory, but in practice it makes you frustrated. "Oh I have to time my positioning too? Lovely." (Please, note the sarcasm.) I understand that the game's inspiration was the traditional fairytale, but I would be awesome if that were somehow expanded. E.g. Making a wolf campaign as well and give wolves a chance to have more depth than going with "wolves = evil by default". (I would greatly appreciate it as a wolf lover.) If you're looking for a better Tower Defense game, check out Plants vs. Zombies. It offers more content and it's executed better.

Expected to get something similar to poor's PvZ game, instead got unbalanced annoyingly hard game. Hand drawn assets are good, everything else is not, even for indie game. Not recommended. Better wait for sale and get PvZ for 1-2 bucks. Played on Windows 7, as Linux user I was unable to utilize new steam utility - Proton based Steam Play, game failed to run properly (tho I installed everything I could including codecs, flash, adobe aero, full pack of DX, vc++ and .NET), also it never worked in wine so if you're Linux user like myself don't bother with this title, it needs native win to run.
it was ok i suppose, but i felt plants vs zombies was better. when you use a consumable on this game they move forward and eventually disappear. its hard building up a defense as it is let alone having my consumed points just walk away from defending their homes.

The premise is straightforward, based on the Three Little Pigs tale. Your mission is to assist pigs in defending their homes from an army of wolves. This is accomplished by clicking on a unit and directing it along one of three paths. Of course, you can also place barriers to delay the enemy's movement and give yourself valuable time to generate money. Everything you want to place requires hammers, the game's currency. You gain one every few seconds, so you will always have some. If you want to make more money, you can invest hammers in the village, but this is much more expensive and may leave you with insufficient funds to purchase units. One thing to point out is that a unit doesn't show up immediately when you click on its icon; it'll slowly start walking from the house. It is crucial to buy units just when you need them, as they will vanish once they reach the end of the path. You’ll get the hammer back, but you’ll waste valuable time because a single unit can attack only one enemy. If an enemy breaks through the barrier and enters one of your three houses, you’ll lose the game instantly. Battles take place across nine chapters, which is not exactly a lot. They are visible on a map, but you cannot select them because they are unlocked in a linear order. Each third chapter ends in a boss fight that is very difficult. The boss constantly spawns additional enemies that cut through all your defenses. The only way to survive is to plan in advance and place a lot of barriers. Before starting a combat, you can choose the main hero and five units or assets to utilize on the battlefield. The starting selection is limited to two units, but as you go through the stages, you will unlock more. The gallery allows you to review all of the units and items, including obstacles and traps. There are three heroes, each with a unique ability. The first is a farmer who can heal, the second is a hunter who can shoot arrows, and the third is a builder who can motivate and enhance units. Each power operates on only one lane, and there is a cool-down period following each use. A hero is important since every unit is linked to one of them. When you click on a hero, little icons appear next to the affected unit. This relationship implies that a unit or asset will cost less.
I have a question for you: Have you ever played Plants vs Zombies? No? Buy this: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3590/Plants_vs_Zombies_GOTY_Edition/ Yes? Play it again, it's a better use of your time. --- Bacon Tales has a vague framework of potential to be fun, but all of it borrowed from Plants vs Zombies. Unfortunately it just doesn't even know what to do to live up to that potential. With only 9 short levels you have just enough time to realize how poorly balanced it is, how limited your options are and how shallow the overall experience is before also finding out it's over before you even feel like you've accomplished very much. It also feels strange for it to be released in 2017 when it's copying a game from 2009 and plays like it's from 2007. --- Bottom line: If you're just grinding out achievements on cheap games, you don't need me to recommend them for you. But if you're actually looking for something fun; this is over almost as quickly as it begins and it's amateurish throughout.
This is a very nice game for it's price. basically, it's a tower defense game, or rather a line defense. You need to defend the pigs' village from the attack of the wolves. Barriers remain immobile and you can select the right place to deploy them. The units ALWAYS appear from the village and move forward without stopping. The first two levels are a bit slow, like a tutorial, but from the third level new enemies and bosses drastically change game mechanics, forcing player to think strategically. You also gain new allies that have their own mechanics and are strong against different types of enemies. Boss fighting are challenging and they have different abilities.
"Bacon Tales - Between Pigs and Wolves" is an unabashed, lazy ripoff of Plants vs. Zombies (Copyright Popcap Games/EA, 2009). Many lazy "amateur" developers don't pay attention to their obligations under copyright law, and often steal the ideas of actual, real game developers without credit, such as the "developer" here has done. At this stage no legal action has been taken by Popcap Games/EA against the "developer" here, but it's never off the table, as previous copyright law cases have shown. Putting aside the unethical intellectual bankruptcy of stealing someone else's game concept for profit, this is also breaking that unwritten law of stealing other people's game ideas... you should at least try to do better than the game you're ripping off. "Bacon Tales - Between Pigs and Wolves" is considerably worse than Plants vs. Zombies. There's a pig theme, so it's pigs vs wolves instead of plants vs zombies, but is that really helping anything? Not really. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals. The game features somewhat lazy, simplistic hand drawn looking 2D graphics, of the type you normally expect to see in low effort Flash/browser games and mobile apps. Considering this is being evaluated as a PC game, having the graphics phoned in like this isn't going to result in a high quality, visually impressive game that PC gamers are used to seeing. The controls can't be customised because the game has such a dumbed down, simplified interface that it's just iPhone screen tapping stuff. The fact that the interface is this dumbed down might be seen as a problem in itself, however... this is a fairly shallow experience if you're the kind of gamer that likes to play games with deep, rich control schemes and interaction. You'll get none of that here. This looks and feels like a mobile app, but it doesn't seem to have made it to the app stores. It's unclear why this was put on Steam instead of the app stores it seems to have been designed for. Maybe it was removed, maybe it was rejected by Apple and Google (they do have more rigorous quality standards than Valve does for Steam, after all). Regardless, for all intents and purposes "Bacon Tales - Between Pigs and Wolves" might as well be a mobile app, it has the same limitations and dumbed down qualities. It's impossible to recommend such a game to PC gamers. We don't spend all this money building gaming rigs so we can pretend they're iPhones and play games that might as well be mobile apps. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. You don't have to take my word about how bad the game is, we can measure the interest in a game by how much people bothered to play it. "Bacon Tales - Between Pigs and Wolves" has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game absolutely failed to capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for starting the game (Farm life), trivial to achieve, but less than 3 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. That's a tiny, tiny proportion of gamers who even bothered with this. Ouch. Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the game. But this only happened once, and isn't consistent with the achievement stats, that show less than 3 percent of players bothered playing the game for any reasonable amount of time. How is it possible for this game to have so many concurrent players who didn't bother engaging with this game? Trading cards. People will use card idling software to collect the cards and sell them, but this won't trigger any achievements in-game. That tells us people only really bought this game for trading cards, and that's a damning indictment of the woeful quality. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with little merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? "Bacon Tales - Between Pigs and Wolves" is relatively cheap at $2 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 11,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.
