About
Subnautica 2 is an underwater survival adventure game set on an all-new alien world. It is the next chapter in the Subnautica universe, developed by Unknown Worlds.
Driven from your home by ongoing conflict, Alterra offers you the chance at a new life. But as the colony ship CICADA shepherds you and your fellow Pioneers to your new home, something goes awry. The ship’s AI insists that your mission should continue. Stranded and faced with near-insurmountable odds, you must do everything in your power to survive. The future of humanity on this world is in your hands.
Subnautica 2 is being crafted as a single-player experience that you can optionally play in online co-operative multiplayer with up to three friends. You can choose from four pre-designed characters, with more characters and customization options coming throughout Early Access. Work together to explore long-forgotten ruins and learn to adapt to a planet that might not want you there.
To survive the depths and make this planet your home, you’ll need to utilize all the tools at your disposal. Traverse vibrant and breathtaking biomes with your Tadpole submersible. Design and customize bases to return to when your adventures push you beyond the safety of shallow waters. As Early Access develops, so too will your array of tools, equipment, and vehicles. Upgrades will help push you beyond your boundaries and unlock the secrets of this strange world.
Scan and study a rich world of biodiversity to understand life here. Discover everything from the smallest creatures to towering Leviathans. Experience the wonder, and sometimes danger, lurking around every corner. Every dive is an opportunity to uncover why the ship's AI is so determined to continue the mission and what mysteries lie beneath the surface of this breathtaking new frontier.
Subnautica 2 is an Early Access title in active development. Throughout this journey, we will continuously expand the world with additional biomes, creatures, and craftables, while expanding the narrative. You may encounter bugs, in-development features, and performance issues. Your feedback is the cornerstone of our development process. Subnautica 2 is being developed by Unknown Worlds, the studio behind the award-winning Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero. Our journey began with the 2003 Half-Life mod Natural Selection, and today we have evolved into a fully remote, globally distributed team spanning from the United States to the United Kingdom, France, Australia, and beyond. Defined by a philosophy of open development and over a decade of community-focused innovation, we invite you to dive back into the depths with a studio dedicated to pushing the boundaries of the survival genre.

Reviews
Story sucks, no meaningful updates, Can't defend yourself from aggressive creatures because the devs have a dumb non-violence ideology. Yet you can kill as many passive fish as you want by turning them into biofuel, so what is even the message? Only go after those weaker than you? Wow, how inspiring!
Look, for a game with no map the UI is crap and is designed to make you lost. This is the same as the first game but now the novelty of having no idea where you are is over. Just leaving the tadpole means you may never see it again as the UI makes no attempt to guide you where it is. Multiplayer is awful as its not easy to actually find people at all then meet up with them. The amount of times i have died in a cave because i cant even find the vehicle i just left is numerous and i can no longer be bothered to keep going...

The biggest letdown for me in Subnautica 2 is the complete absence of underground tunnel systems. In the original, those sprawling cave networks and depth layouts gave the game its sense of mystery and danger. Using the scanner room to map out caves hundreds of meters down was one of the most rewarding parts of exploration. Here, that whole layer of gameplay feels stripped away, and without it the world feels flatter and less immersive. For a sequel, I expected them to build on that depth, not remove it.
It's an unfinished cash grab. Between the inability to defend yourself from wildlife that wants to eat you, and the draconian EULA, I cannot recommend this game. This game was released in a buggy mess, half the content is missing, the only released it so they could get their bonus. This feels like an AI slop addition to subnautica 1.
I would like to start this review with a disclaimer, i enjoyed my about 12 hour playthrough greatly, and i have all the faith that it will grow up to be a worthy sequel. but here in early acces, it isn't there yet. I adore the multiplayer support and integration, it is simple and quite streamlined. although there was one thing i was looking forward too with multiplayer that isn't in the game yet. large vehicles, the game has only a single vehicle at the time of writing, the tadpole. although it does have its haul and wing chassis's. these don't work great in multiplayer and i found myself not really paying attention while shotgunning, since my camera views were so limited i couldn't even really look for leviathans while we drove. and there were no other things to do. the game also feels very empty, although i realize the original ''suffered'' from this as well, it feels like the spaces between usefull places are very large, open and unintresting. I also missed the biome diversity granted by the island and lost river around the end of the first game. But its quite clear this will be added later. I kept myself entirely unspoiled on the creatures in this game, and so did my friend with whom i played this game. that made our first encounters with most creatures an absolute thrill. although a thrill that quickly wore off when i realized how most enemies deal negligeble damage (unless they straight up eat you). which for a game this centered around death in its plot, made death a rarity. so my final thoughts about this games gameplay: food and water are trivial, which is in my opinion great. enemies, while scary are no real threat. and the game is a bit lacking in content (especially for 30 euro's). I will not be keeping up with this game, so i can have the joy of playing it again when it fully releases
Not a fun game. Quite bland and lacking content or creativity.
WHY IS THERE NO "GIVE UP BUTTON" I HAVE BEEN DROWING FOR 30 MINUTES! I AM CURSED WITH IMMORTALITY. ADD A GIVE UP BUTTON TO YOUR SURVIVAL GAME!
2/10
I picked this up thinking it was going to be Subnautica.. instead its a neutered weakened version of the game. Its not survival and exploration, its some twisted subversion to this alien world at the expense of the humans that arrive. You cannot kill or harm anything even in self defense. Your player must die to ensure no fishies are not hurt.
sub 1 was better this is just a sloppy work of sub 1
