The submachine series was one of my favorite games from my childhood getting the remaster on steam was a a great day for me. I grew up on this ♥♥♥♥. Thank you Mateusz Skutnik!

One of my favorite flash games turned steam. Excellent atmosphere and puzzles. Plus, the creator is a nice person; I had purchased sub machine on CD from the creator and it never arrived, they gave me the games no questions asked, so I bought the steam version too when it came out.
This is the best puzzle game I played. I also now feel that i could easily do any escape room after completing this game.
“Look at this funny trick” -M

Submachine is now a more than 20-year-old running series that had humble beginnings as a flash game.
Gameplay
It’s an escape room point-and-clicker, which means collecting items in the environment to use on other pieces of the environment to make progress while also solving some logic problems.
Story
A story about multiple realities and the exploration effort conducted on them to understand its mechanics, origins, and future developments.
X-Factor
The game is very easy to pick up and play, it has a unique setting, and heavy “lines as texture” style.
Downsides
It feels very “disjointed” because of it’s more than 10 games rolled into one over a 10-year development span. The story is a confusing mess, it is coherent, but you can certainly feel that the developer wanted to go for something in a certain chapter and then something else completely with the next one. The first chapters feel too experimental than having a consolidated style that plays well with the rest of the game. Puzzles are on one hand simple but with items that hide well in the background, them blocking progress, and sometimes Moonman logic will have you run around for hours with no clue on what to do.

Submachine is a setting that wasn’t fully fleshed out until the 7th game in the series was made, and it shows in this remake while making me hopeful for future developments on this universe now that the groundwork has been done. Worth it at 20$ only if you are a long-time fan of the series, otherwise the 50% discount we’re having now during the Summer Sales is the perfect asking price. You can play this for free as the flash games are still available, but this version is much more polished.
