Christmas is one of those rare occasions when a sing-a-long isn't cringe :-] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kORRidv-p0Y&ab_channel=NatKingColeVEVO

Summary
Stories in Glass: Winter is a stained-glass jigsaw puzzle game centered around folklore Christmas stories. Its relaxing gameplay, beautiful graphics, iconic music and warm, cozy vibes make it the perfect game to get you into the mood for Christmas! Suitable for all ages. You can also re-paint any puzzle and save the result! This is my honest opinion of the game.

Stats

Time played: 10+ hours
Story books played: All five
Achievements unlocked: 14 / 14

Gameplay

The game consists of five books, each tells a folktale through eight chapters / puzzles. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3105768636
It's like a children's book (or five), simplified even more and made into a fun and interactive game.
Once you complete any of the puzzles, you can change the color of any of the stained glass pieces!
Further more, you can directly save your new customized art work as a wallpaper for your desktop! I haven't removed mine since I first put it up; too cute! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3104905626
40 puzzles in total, so plenty to do.

Graphics and audio

Beautiful visuals Very pleasant to look at. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3112147852
Immersive music Plenty of classical Christmas tunes play back to back in the in the background with nice fading.
Nice sound effects The searing sound of a glass piece being welded into place never gets old for me! Very satisfying.

Pros

Polished and smooth gameplay Only one bug in my 10 hours of play time. Otherwise, my experience has been stellar.
Very relaxing I really needed that and this game scratched that itch.
Satisfying gameplay It's a nice feeling when you're done with a puzzle and just look at it for a moment. This beauty? Yes, you helped make it complete.
Replayability The ability to select your own choice of colors to completely reimagine any puzzle adds a unique feature and possibly a few extra hours of fun when done together with your children or nephews and nieces.
Fitting for the season

Cons

One bug: When you move a piece out of the deck below and then return it there (because it didn't fit), it makes the furthest piece to the right in the deck go out of view, rendering it unseen and un-selectable. Here's a demonstration. Hidden and unreachable: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3104977295 Visible and selectable: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3104977769
Typos. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3105956668 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3110484901 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3112314166

Quality of Life Suggestions

Maybe make the stained glass pieces stick together outside of the picture? Right now, even if the pieces fit together, they won't join unless within the frame. I understand this very well might be a game design choice. Example: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3112041945 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3112042130
Show the name of each book and chapter at the start of its puzzle, and feature the complete non-colored puzzle; both as a center-screen popup message of sorts. This will make for a more coherent and immersive experience for the stories.
Add the ability to pick which Christmas music is playing. I can name two indie games that I've played recently that do this (Voyager and Wound Man) and it's really helpful because we can skip to the ones we like the most or avoid a track that keeps playing too many times.
Is it possible to add vocals to the music? Can it be done without violating any copyright laws?

Achievements

Total: 14
Very straightforward
Perfect Game? Not yet but it certainly has all the potential in the world to give that.

Conclusion
Highly recommended! This is an affordable game that fits Christmas perfectly. I don't believe I've played any Christmas-themed game that comes even close.
Guide? Not really. Just a cozy read
I created a guide for the game. It's more of a cozy read with a hot cup of cocoa in hand really xD https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3112225022
Liked this review? Craving winter stories or Christmas moments? In Stories in Glass: Winter piece together 40 beautiful scenes depicting the magic of the season.
The Story
In Stories in Glass: Winter you play through five books that each tell a winter tale. The stories are The Fir Tree, The Snow Queen, Elves & the Shoemaker, Visit St. Nicholas and the beloved story The NutCracker. You can play any book in any order with each book having 8 chapters.
Gameplay & Features
The settings in the game are very basic, audio control and resolution options. As well as language selection. Game play is piecing together mosaics like a jigsaw puzzle. Strengths * In-game hints that recharge fast. * The music is festive. A collection of instrumental Christmas melodies that are relaxing and certainly suit the theme of the game. * Easy to obtain achievements, just play & enjoy the game. * The puzzles DO auto-save so you can back out and go back in with your progress saved. Special Features One thing that this game does have which is cool is once you complete a puzzle you can paint or recolor elements in the puzzle. Once done you can make it a wallpaper. Shortcomings * You can only change resolution from the main menu and not during game-play (hitting quit will bring you back to the main menu (not quit out of the game). * The pieces do not rotate. Simply pick them up, find their spot and it will click into place. * No difficulty options. * When you're piecing together the puzzle there is no image to reference as to what the complete picture should look like. * The pieces are, for the most part, grouped together. Making it very easy to assemble sections. * Hints do not place random pieces, it always takes them from the first piece in the lineup.
Overall Experience
This game is certainly festive with beautiful illustrations to get you into the mood for the holidays. However what it offers is too basic and too easy for those looking for any type of challenge. The pieces are grouped together so there is no trying to “find” the next piece, they are next to each other. Assembly becomes very easy once you notice this. There are no difficulty options, no rotation of the pieces and no real challenge. I will say however this game is perfect for the young ones. They are probably not going to notice the lack of difficulty and the colorful illustrations combined with the music, re-coloring options and festive spirit will certainly delight them. I recommend this game for a younger audience and on sale.
Follow IndieGems for more reviews like this one.
HOLY NUTCRACKER!
I have played several games similar to Stories in Glass: Winter, where you grab a puzzle fragment and place it on the board correctly. I've always loved the concept but hated the fact that they were all timed games that forced you to place fragments at a break-neck pace, God forbid, should you place a piece incorrectly! I'm a puzzle geek; puzzles are my zen and should be relaxing...x unless you're about to enter the World Puzzle Championship! Tiny Little Lion has broken the stained-glass ceiling rules! They ditched the timer and added actual stories that progress with each themed puzzle Book. These are beautiful stained-glass puzzles with just the right amount of challenge. There are 5 Chapter Books. Each Book has 8 Puzzles/Stories. Relaxing puzzle where you restore images while listening to Christmas tunes. Here’s something different from Tiny Little Lion studio. After several series of old-school and casual HOG games, here comes the equally casual puzzle game where you reconstruct glass windows. As always, there’s no need to worry about quality or content because they always deliver. The game is divided into five chapters or books, and each book has eight puzzles. Although it would be a good idea to play them in order and follow the story, you can play any puzzle you want. The story is just a one or two sentences after you finish the puzzle, so it might not be that important to you. Each puzzle starts with some of the pieces already placed. The rest of the pieces are found on the bar at the bottom. There’s room for only so many, but you can freely scroll between them and look for those you want. The best way to start a puzzle is to look for pieces with straight sides. This means there’s a good change they fit somewhere around the edges. Or you can look for pieces with unique shape. Regardless of your approach, you simply need to click on the piece and drop it on the correct spot or somewhere on the playing field. When a piece is placed on the right spot, it will get “glued” and won’t be able to move again. But if the spot is wrong, you can either click and drag it around to a new spot or drop it back at the bottom to keep the screen clean. Once you understand the concept, solving a puzzle is very easy. The thing is that pieces are usually placed at the bottom in such an order that allow you to fill up the image without worrying where the pieces go. In other words, the first pieces is often connected to the second piece, second to the third, and so on. It’s a bit shame there aren’t any extras or bonuses. The only other feature is that you can change the color of completed image or completely repaint it according to your wishes.
A chill puzzle game with stained glass, nice sounds, and good holiday music. This one is a win.
Puzzle game for family, mainly for children. Although as an adult I have a lot of fun. Great music! Perfect while waiting for Christmas. It would be nice to add more chapters.
Nice stained glass window puzzle game. After you complete the puzzle you can repaint the window. Recommended.
