Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,515 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.

Still Wakes the Deep – 2024 Optimizations Required It's a good game overall, but let's talk about the optimization. From my own experience and research, there appears to be very little optimization here. The studio, The Chinese Room, recommends using an RTX 2070, but if you dive into the information, that recommendation appears to be false. What I found through third-party research is that the Radeon RX 6800 XT and RTX 3080 are more capable of driving this game at 60 FPS at 1080p. Anything above 1440p would require a much newer and stronger card. The only reason I went so deeply into the game's performance was because it ran poorly on my own system. Discovering that the game runs on Unreal Engine 5 seems to be the sole suspect for the performance issues. Looking at the possible development timeline, Unreal Engine 5 was officially released on April 5, 2022, and Still Wakes the Deep came out in 2024. This narrows down the development period to roughly two years, which, to be fair, isn't the game engine's fault. I would suspect that the studio was hard-pressed for time and ultimately released an unpolished game on a new engine that the developers didn't have much time or experience with. I'd have more positive things to say if it were running on a highly polished version of Unreal Engine 4, which, by the way, still looks absolutely fantastic. The Callisto Protocol isn't a great game, but it looks phenomenal. All of this is based on my experience and opinion, but it had a major influence on my review. Story and Voice Acting With a similar setting to the movie The Thing, the game takes place on an oil derrick completely isolated in the middle of the Atlantic. You experience the events that unfold after drilling into "something unknown." It's a decent scenario and something I haven't really seen or heard explored outside of Deepwater Horizon, albeit with a horror setting. The derrick itself becomes an unfriendly environment to human beings. It's a treacherous setting, and you'll be clawing your way through its bowels multiple times, trying to resolve issues as they arise. On top of all of that, the voice acting is top-tier and can be gut-wrenching. Alec Newman, Shaun Dooley, and Neve McIntosh steal the game for me, as their interactions felt absolutely genuine. Not to overlook the other actors, either, as it's blatantly obvious that everyone is giving their all during these moments. Gameplay If you haven't read the tags on this game, then that's on you. It's a walking sim with some puzzles sprinkled throughout. Difficulty isn't written into its DNA, as I could give this game to almost anyone and I think they would breeze through it. Granted, I play these types of games so I don't have to think too hard. I can sit back, relax, and go from objective to objective. Now, regarding the stealth mechanic, it's pretty lackluster, but I won't spoil any of the enemies. "Tacked on" and "janky" feel appropriate when describing these elements. Many times, I came face-to-face with enemies without being detected or attacked. The flexibility during these moments is practically nonexistent, and you're often forced into certain situations. Thankfully, these sections only occur a handful of times. Absolutely the weakest part of the game, despite the enemy design being creative and intriguing. There are many moments where seeing a conglomeration of people stuck together was incredible. It creates a real sense of cosmic horror, atmosphere, and something incomprehensible happening around you. Caz Out to Sea To summarize without spoiling anything, you're an employee named Caz working on an oil derrick. The opening sequence has you being absolutely chewed out by your terrible boss, Rennick. Caz, although partly responsible for bringing this situation on himself due to severely assaulting a man named Billy Chamberlain in Glasgow, is now hiding out on the derrick. At the same time, you're dealing with your wife, Suze, who's been left behind in Scotland with their two daughters. During all of this, the derrick hits something at the bottom of the ocean, which unleashes something unknown that begins running amok and doing unspeakable things to the humans aboard. It becomes your job and main objective to find a way off the derrick and get back home to your wife and kids. It's a decent setting and premise, strengthened by Caz's internal battle to try to make everything right. The cosmic horror portion has a lot in common with The Color Out of Space, but it's done in terrific, grotesque detail. Overall The price of admission is low, as I purchased this game as part of a bundle with Routine. At $8 through that bundle, though, I wouldn't say it's a great purchase, as for the same price you can get something better, like Journey, What Remains of Edith Finch, or The Unfinished Swan. Do your research before buying to see if you're actually interested in something like this, as the game will only last around five hours. I want to recommend it, but there are too many pain points considering what other titles are available. If the studio had optimized the game better and improved the stealth sections, I would've ranked it much more favorably. 63/100

Garbage game, don't waste your time.
Awesome game

It's a good setting, but the actual game is very formulaic and repetitive, even during its short run time (4 hrs). BIt of a waste of the setting. A bit more time with the characters, and less time repeating the same corridors and stealth gameplay again and again, would have helped.
