I think there is a really good game here trying to get out. Not there yet, but I will keep trying and watch with interest. Production conveyors are a bit tricky - there is a third metal that I don't think was covered in the tutorial (tooltips would be useful as would a tutorial reset). Importantly, has that "one more try" aspect, even though I seem to be failing at the moment.
Stellar Infestation is a sci-fi strategy game that combines tower defense mechanics with streamlined factory management and survival gameplay against endless alien insect swarms. Developed and published by YogurtGames, the game places players on hostile planets where building an efficient industrial network becomes just as important as defending against increasingly dangerous attacks. Rather than focusing purely on combat or automation alone, the game blends both systems together into a fast-paced survival experience centered around resource extraction, ammunition production, and base defense. The gameplay revolves around establishing mining operations, constructing production lines, and maintaining defensive systems capable of surviving wave after wave of aggressive alien creatures. Every turret requires ammunition that must be manufactured manually through the game’s simplified automation systems, which creates a constant balancing act between expanding the economy and reinforcing defenses. This combination works surprisingly well because players are always under pressure to improve production efficiency while also preparing for the next incoming swarm. One of the game’s biggest strengths is its approachable factory-building design. Unlike larger automation games that overwhelm players with highly complex logistics systems, Stellar Infestation keeps its production mechanics streamlined and easy to understand. Conveyors, crafting stations, and resource pipelines are simple enough that players can quickly grasp how the economy functions without spending hours learning complicated mechanics. This lighter approach helps maintain the game’s pacing and allows the defensive gameplay to remain the main focus. Combat becomes increasingly intense as larger and more dangerous insect waves begin attacking the player’s base. Different tower types and upgrade paths encourage experimentation with defensive layouts, while stronger enemy species force players to constantly adapt their strategies. Some insects move quickly through weak points in the defense line, while others absorb massive amounts of damage before collapsing. Watching giant swarms flood toward the base creates an enjoyable sense of tension, especially when production lines begin struggling to keep up with ammunition demands. The progression systems also add a satisfying sense of long-term advancement. Completing missions unlocks stronger technologies, improved defensive structures, and better production tools that make future runs more efficient and strategically flexible. This upgrade system gives the game a rewarding progression curve where players gradually evolve from barely surviving early attacks into managing heavily fortified industrial strongholds capable of resisting enormous swarms. Visually, Stellar Infestation adopts a clean top-down presentation that focuses heavily on gameplay readability. Buildings, conveyors, turrets, and enemy units remain easy to identify even during chaotic battles filled with dozens of attacking insects. The environments themselves are relatively simple and clearly reflect the game’s indie budget, but the minimalist visual style works well for the type of strategy gameplay being offered. The sci-fi setting may not be visually groundbreaking, but it effectively supports the atmosphere of desperate planetary survival. The sound design contributes nicely to the overall pacing. Factory machinery, turret fire, and swarming insect noises combine to create a constant sense of industrial pressure during gameplay. Audio feedback from combat and production systems helps reinforce the feeling that the player is maintaining a fragile operation under nonstop attack. The soundtrack itself remains fairly understated but succeeds at building tension during larger enemy assaults without becoming distracting. One of the more satisfying aspects of the game is how naturally the factory systems and tower defense mechanics support each other. Ammunition shortages during combat can quickly lead to disaster, meaning players must constantly think about logistics and resource flow instead of simply building stronger defenses. This interconnected design prevents the gameplay from becoming repetitive too quickly because every system directly affects survival. At the same time, the game’s smaller scope becomes noticeable after extended sessions. Enemy variety is somewhat limited, and later missions can begin feeling repetitive once players become familiar with the available production systems and combat strategies. Environmental diversity is also fairly minimal, causing some maps to blend together visually over time. While the core gameplay loop remains enjoyable, the overall amount of content feels modest compared to larger strategy and automation titles. The game also lacks some polish in certain areas. Interface options and quality-of-life features feel somewhat limited, and a few systems appear less refined than they initially seem. Although the core mechanics are functional and entertaining, the experience occasionally feels like a smaller experimental strategy project rather than a fully expanded large-scale release. Another challenge is the game’s relatively small player community. With limited visibility and a small audience, Stellar Infestation currently feels like a niche indie strategy title that has yet to reach a broader audience. However, the gameplay foundation itself is strong enough that fans of tower defense and light factory management will likely still find plenty to enjoy despite the game’s modest scale. What ultimately makes Stellar Infestation enjoyable is how effectively it balances constant defensive pressure with manageable production systems. The game avoids overwhelming players with excessive complexity while still creating enough strategic tension to keep every mission engaging. The combination of alien swarm survival and industrial management gives the gameplay loop a satisfying rhythm that becomes surprisingly addictive over time. Stellar Infestation ultimately stands as a solid and entertaining indie strategy game that successfully combines tower defense action with accessible factory-building mechanics. Its blend of resource management, automated production, and large-scale insect assaults creates a satisfying survival experience that rewards careful planning and adaptability. While the limited content variety and rough edges prevent it from becoming a major standout within the genre, the game still delivers an enjoyable and well-designed strategy experience for players who enjoy balancing industrial efficiency with chaotic defensive combat.
