This can be a fun and tense game, but the tutorial section and half of the 1st zone REALLY let it down. You can find 40 minutes of gameplay with commentary here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOGItoYBL_E StarSmashers is a turn based space combat game. Where you progress through each zone fighting a range of AI starships. So far it has always been 1v1 with the player or AI taking tuns targeting different components of the ship. As I mentioned, when I first played the tutorial I regretted paying for the game, battle with the initial weak ships are uneventful and it is not until half way through the 2nd zone (1st being tutorial) that the game gets interesting. Where the game shines is the pressure of repairing your ship, targeting components of the enemy ship and taking defensive measures during a very limited turn countdown. Close battles can be very fun, but steamrolling the AI at times has the opposite effect. There is no pause that I found, so you need to finish a section before walking away. With 5 different components to juggle, 5 weapon types (each with a way to counter or enhance) and the ability to add 2 auxiliary abilities - ship loadout can sometimes matter. I should note that so far I have stuck with the same weapons/abilities, just upgrading them, and have progressed. The tutorial and second zone took me a bit over an hour to play through, whereas the 3rd zone took me about 35 minutes. It seems the game has 8 zones in total, so I expect about 4 hours of gameplay from this title (depending how often I die). The game also has 2 game modes - normal - where if you die you can repeat the battle, and 1 life - a semi roguelike - where if you die its game over. This gives it some replay-ability, depending how much you enjoy the initial play through. The game is easy to play and being able to think and click fast is an advantage, the graphics look nice as its a unity engine game and games where the combat is close can be very fun. On the downside, the ship explosion animations are simple and the firing animations are repeated. The music - turn it off before you begin. While the menu music is fine, I have found the combat music is short and looped.
Okay, so I haven't played for long, but enough to become familiar with how the game will play out. Everything from combat to upgrades are covered in the four tutorials, and while the UI is overly largem, lending a look of a mobile port, it is functional....to a point. PROS: - Easy to pick up and play - graphics are pleasant, and not at all blurred or bland - combat is engaging and fun - map is very much like FTL - you can upgarde and outfit your ship to your heart's desire - great for either short play-throughs or long involved sessions CONS: - Unfortuantelty, hovering your mouse over weapons does npot give tooltips so you don't know what the wepaons, or tactical devices actually are. Unless you have a damn good memory and recall what eaxch of them are when you purchase ort upgrade you are playing the weapons and tactical devices blindly - hull damage does not appear on your ship. It appears on ypour enemy's shjip but only when hit - needs 'scarring' effect - simplistic, but not always a bad thing - I can see cvombat getting boring pretty fast, so we need to have more actions like scanning planets and pcking up resources included 7/10
This game is horrible. It seems at first like it's kind of okay. But it turns very quickly into a fight for clicking the weapon you want to use then trying to beat the timer to select a target for it. I am near the last ship on the second map and CAN NOT beat it. I get to fire once, mabey twice, but then the enemy reapirs it's hull (IF you manage to do ANY damge to it at all) VERY rapidly while attacking you anywhere from 3 to 5 times. This says it is a turn based game. While it is, it's also a click as fast you can, but don't missclick! I don't care if it's cheap. DON'T BUY THIS CRAP! The shop is a joke, to buy another weapon I need 25,000 credits. I have 2,400 but you can't replay missions to earn any money to upgrade. Once you have bought something, that's it...no return. No way to grind to get enough to advance. Looking at the disccusions shows me the devs have never responded to anything and this game was nothing more than a quick cash grab and run.
edit 1-8-2020 The facts are clear that it was given a 1.0 slap then abandoned Avoid like the plague. Original review was updated on updated on 5-8-2019 with these comments and there has been no change: Warning Check forums and update link on the store page as well as the negative reviews before you consider buying: There has been no updates , and no support as threads have gone unanswered for more than a year in the forums. IT appears to me that this game was given a quick 1.0 slap and quickly abandoned. As a result of these issues I have permanently boycotted this developer. conclusion Do check the forums and the update link on the store page as well as other reviews which will give you a greater idea as to why you should avoid this game like the plague. As for myself I will never purchase from this developer again.
Yeah no...

Camera is insufferable with its jump cuts all around.
Text is practically unreadable, since it's tightly packed and the font is really hard to read fast especially since the text never stays on the screen longer than a second or so.
Controls feels like this title should be played on a tablet.
Audio settings are not saved when restarting
Splash screens when starting game are not fps capped and makes my GPU go crazy. 1000fps is not ok!!!!!
While I did not play the game for long, I can instantly say this game is definitely not for me. I do have to say that the game runs well and seems to be ok in other ways. I just can't shrug the feeling of a mobile game ported to PC. Overall the game feels lackluster. These are not necessarily things that would make the game bad. So even though I do not enjoy the title, I still do recommend this game, since it's a working and well running title especially for its price point. Maybe wait for patches to fix the rough edges.
The gameplay is fun enough, but the UI is total mess...most broken thing in the game. Not only does it change your setup whenever you die but you have no indication of what you have installed in the first place...AI is subpar and unless I am missing something cheats like crazy on the later levels. Cannot recommend
Fun concept, but it wasn't what I expected when it said turn based. So much comes down to if you can simply click fast enough. There were a few roadblocks I've hit. I overcame them by having to restart and be smarter with what upgrades I purchased. That gets tiring after the 2nd or 3rd time doing it. If it wasn't so twitch based, it would get multiple thumbs up from me. As it stands now, it's worth the price on sale. I wouldn't pay much more for it though.
回合制游戏,在限定时间内进行一系列操作,选择进行攻击或者修复,有剧情(看不懂英文)。会有点小紧张,总体过于boring。
Disclaimer: I got this game for free. TL;DR: - mobile port - nice graphics - horrible dialogue - AI too easy - no voice over - not overly complex === This game seems to be a port from mobile which you should keep in mind when buying it. The graphics are really nice (once you set it to Full HD or higher in the "hidden" settings menu after you start actually playing). And if you have fun ripping on bad dialogue this is another enjoyable part of the game. You also have the choice between different weapons and what parts of ship you upgrade. Weapons and perks are bought with credits which are won through battles and ship systems can be upgraded through skill points which you get by leveling up. The core gameplay is turnbased combat. In every turn there's a countdown, until it's ended you can do as much as you want so if you're a fast clicker you have an advantage. Every action takes times and has cooldowns. Every ship has the same five systems that allow different actions. If a system is destroyed it's options are unavailable until they are repaired through the reactor system. The hull can't be repaired in combat but will be auto-repaired once the combat is over. Once it reaches zero you loose the battle, when you chose "1 life" at the beginning you end your game here and have to start from the beginning, but if you chose "Normal" you can just retry. At first the game was frustrating because the first enemy after the tutorial was super hard to beat until I tried to focus on the scanner instead of the weapons, I easily won. So now one could think every ship has his weaknesses and unique specialties. They tried to do that and have your assistant always tell you about it before every battle but you can just ignore everything and win every time by just aiming for the scanner, kill this system and the enemy misses you almost every time. This means no damage on your system his hull and other systems take gradually damage until one turn isn't enough for the enemy to repair everything (which they seem to always try before retaliating).
Пошаговые космические стратегии - это всегда интересно, если они имеют качественную рисовку, продуманную боевую механику и толковый сюжет (это всё как минимум обязательно).
