I really love this game. It took a few goes to get my head around the ui. Well worth the money even at full price. Space trucking, space pirate, diplomat. Big space battles. Love the feel of space much more than Starfield. I loved the ships and upgrading them is awesome. I had to play in windowed mode. Sometimes bad slowdown during big battles. I turned full screen optimisation off. Also Windows 8 compatible mode, helped somewhat at times.
(game complete at 33.3 hours at time of review, part of my review all my games effort) (Short version) If a lighter version of Stellaris and a full version of Star Fleet Command had a baby it'd be Starpoint Gemini. An interesting game that really grinds in the end... A pretty good deal for $35. (long version) An interesting take on RTS that includes 3rd person space combat. It's not as complicated as some people would make it seem, there are a few things the tutorial doesn't prepare you for, but by then you should have a handle on what's going on. $35 is a pretty good price for what you get. The good: It's like a lighter version of Stellaris meets Star Fleet Command. 1: Gameplay is a bit repetitive but is satisfying, having the ability to choose one of three different classes goes a long way. I appreciate that there's a talent tree and research tree it adds depth. 2: Ships are interesting and there is a lot to do even during the main mission. The main mission gives you time to develop i.e. "Get to this class of ship before moving on." so you're encouraged to conquer the galaxy. 3: The story is interesting and kept me engaged. The bad: This game is great however, it's obvious that it's from an independent developer. There is a lot of jank... 1: AI fleets are not very good at helping, they'll definitely be of help but they're not smart, they will often attack enemy fleets completely outside the objective leaving you stranded. 2: The job board is extremely boring and repetitive, you've done one installation defense you've done them all, balance disappears when you get to battleship class, making some jobs nearly unbeatable. Also the compensation doesn't scale. 3: Enemy ships that are out of the fight shouldn't keep fighting... just saying (if you know you know).

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,419 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Boring jobs bad combat i know it from 2017 so back then it gues it would of been a ok game like a 4 or 5 out of 10.
how do you even scan an anomaly? controls are not intuitive. i feel like i need to go thru the tutorial every time i take a 2 month break from playing

It's an immersive game, I like flying through space, it's very relaxing. I think the gameplay and controls are a bit clumsy and the management part is a bit linear but all in all it's quite good
TL:DR
"not the best of both worlds" would be a good summary of this game. The game is fine in the space travelling/battles and a ok '4x'. it doesn't add up really well and it feels like both of the element were created completely separately. The game is a grindfest.
Full details

Story
This game is played by first selecting a scenario that dictates how you start the game. there is also a campagn that is only available from the campagn scenario.
Gameplay
As said in the TL:DR, the game is based on a 2 layer gameplay.
Space
You are able to drive ships from various class, gunship, frigates, carrier... Though they kinda feels the same, the difference in combat is crystal clear, the game really make the small ships irrevelant after a short while. You will get to upgrade rather fast if you farm money efficiently. To farm it, you can either do freelance mission, comming with a nice variety of objective, delivery, assault on base, convoy attack, defence... The thing with these mission is that the objective only appear if you have selected the mission, meaning that attacking a structure will spawn the structure only if you selected the mission. Meaning that have to go personnaly take the mission and fight WHILE you can move fleet around to mess with other faction. would be neat if the fleets could also do mission to grind money. You can either farm it through trades, which feels kinda weird. You can farm hundreds of millions in a few dozen of minutes ingame but your faction is basically useless, in term of income. The travelling part is fine because you get t-drive charges early on in the shop that can teleport your fleet around.
hub management
You are the commander of a faction. You have a faction HQ, that will be upgradable with new module that will enable perks, researchs, fleet size... This management resolve around 3 ressources, minerals from mining, gaz from extracter and material from recycling. The mineral are mainly used to upgrade the hub, the gaz is used for researchs and the material to construct ships. There are building in the map that will make weekly deposit of the ressource they produce and you can also farm a bit yourself to get started. The starchart, will inform you about the different faction and the outpost, that are capturable to expand you territory. With the fleet you produces in your base, you can go and conquer the map by taking outpost/ station/planets. you can have a fleet to follow you to help yyou in combat. The flaws of this management part are numerous: -There are no advantage in going to war, the ressources production rate of building are laughable, and diplomacy is reduce to having a perk named "diplomacy". -There are basically no interaction with the other faction. You can only have 2 trade treaty at a time, and they bring ressources or a bonus for X week. You can have a faction "work for you" if you grind their reputation to max but its another bonus or free ♥♥♥♥♥. there are no "let's be ally to destroy X" or disruption to slow X down. just grind on grind. -the ressources are way to scarce. I don't mean that the game should allow you to build a planetary assaulting fleet in a week but i mean more than a gunship per week in one of the major faction would be cool. -You have to farm everything yourself, it really don't feel like you are at the top of a faction.
Visual and sound design
The sound of the differents weapons is really good, and the combat chatter/ voice in general is very well made.
Why i/ i don't recommend
The game in itself is ok-ish. The thing is, it's a 4X where you will have to farm for everythin. a small ship is 500 material, you get 500 mat per ingame week, money is way to scarce for a commander that rule over a faction. I had to do cargo runs to earn the money to make upgrades/buy ships. I couldn't bring myself to grind for the proxima researchs and didn't finished the campagn. The game is bugged from the start. An setting option makes the game unable to launch... after 30min of playing around of trouble shooting, i found the solution in a forum post from 2017... a bug still around 3 years later... other than that, alt+tab while t-drive, and boom, the game is stuck in a unending loop. The game got game breaking bugs. Last reason, this review is heavily bias because i played starsector recently and it was a better mix of 4x / space ship battle than this... The game is 15$ on their website which make it more expensive if you buy spgw on sale, but it's imo worth way more.
