If you aren't sure, go play the free and FANTASTIC game called "Endless Sky", which is available here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/404410/Endless_Sky/ Starpoint Gemini 2 is essentially a very pretty very detailed very polished version of Endless Sky. Same grinding, same "unlock content by making money". If you hacked the game to get free credits and bought the biggest ships, it would be completely boring - the fun is in the grind. I bought this at an 80% discount, and I'm not sure if I would ever have paid full price - but that's just because I don't generally have enough time to justify spending a lot of money when I'll never go through the whole progression anyways. If you have a lot of time to burn, maybe it will be worth it, but my review is not going to do the game justice in that regard too. Many comments in the forums and guides spell out that the Starpoint Gemini 2 isn't all that enjoyable at the earliest levels. You don't really get to enjoy the game much until you've played long enough to buy an expensive ship. I can say that what I have played I've enjoyed, and the game DOES feel somewhat - but not quite adequately - like Freelancer to make me want to keep playing. Freelancer had a better organization and quest layout that drew the player to exploring new locations, which is apparently missing in Starpoint Gemini 2 at least for the first several hours of gameplay (and if they intended to do that, what are they waiting for, so I think it's completely missing). It's - not a bit - it is a HUGE shame. Freelancer showed the way, but apparently they couldn't be bothered with it in this game, so that's a fair minus. Also charging to use stargates is highway robbery, and so the beginner player has to sit through lengthy flights. This part is rather tedious and I have to scratch my head at what the devs were thinking? "Here play our game it's REALLY FREAKING BORING!" Oh... well I hope that worked out for you. In other news... no there is no base-building that I could find. I think you'll have to get into the X3 series for that. But, it does have some of the same feel that X3 has, for example being able to board and take over ships. Yeah, I think it's okay. Could have been better. I'll take what I can get.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

we need chinese!!!! thanks
Sorry. I cannot recommend this game in good faith. The controls are so clunky, the interface is horribly unintuitive, and most of the time you're destroyed because there are 50 things to look at during any given moment. IT'S A GAME, DEVS. If we wanted to manage ship subsystems and worry about my fuel mixture ratio, I'D JUST GO JOIN NASA. Can't wait for a more intuitive space game to knock this one out of the catalog. Don't bother unless you're a glutton for punishment.

I am a 45 yo father, probably one of the oldest people playing this game. I am a single father to my Son, who is 14 now. My son got this game from his uncle, so we installed it on his computer and he started playing. By the end of the week he had 24 hours on this game. This was horrible for me, as it was already hard for me to find ways to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just watching YouTube. So I decided to make a Steam account and get this game to see if I could maybe play alongside him. I loaded into the game, picked my character and world and started playing but I was stuck on what you where supposed to do. I asked my Son for help and he hosted a game for me to join. I loved it as it was the best time I had spent with my Son since my wife had died. This game has ever since brought me and my son closer again and now we actually spend time together outside the house together as well. This game reminded me that there's fun to be had in everything, and it has brought both me and my Son many happy memories.
Controls are for controller only. When you set it to joystick the mouse doesn't work at all and you can't change keybinding in options.
Freelancer is Abandonware now and has plenty of great mods. Just go play that, much much better at everything this game attempts. (Personally i even prefer the simple, old graphics of FL to this game but thats a matter of taste) I bought this in early access and it did deliver what it promised but unfortunately you can tell the budget wasnt very high and the devs could have used more experience (unfortunate framerate problems make this game a little frustrating, as the graphics are ok, but not of such quality that you could ignore said problems.) Unfriendly and convoluted UI, boringly shallow physics and economy simulation and semi-professional voice acting make it hard to get immersed in this title. X3 has a better economy and freelancer has far better combat, sadly i can't think of anything this game does exceptionally well. Its even sadder when considering that the devs are actually very involved and community-friendly, if they had some more experienced people on their team and a little more money they could probably make an amazing game.
This is a decent space sim game, but it kind of lacks something. Main story is mostly a bunch of texts in quest log; side stories are simplistic and repetitive; game world is very static and uneventful; factions all look the same. Space battle mechanics are well done, but for me they could not offset lack of purpose or depth in other aspects of the game.
Pro: - A very large map - Decent trading - Things going on. Con: - I find the grind and perk/special item based combat really unrewarding - Related to above: it really takes stamina to go through story missions. They are somewhat better designed than X-series but getting things done without either getting annoyed or falling asleep is tough. A major problem that i see is uneven difficulty. You either fall asleep or get whacked really hard. - Crashing I choose X-series over this anytime (Not the Rebirth, the original series)
