About
You've heard those stories about aliens invading Earth - but I bet you haven't heard the one where an entire galaxy of planets invades the universe. It's up to you - and a team of 50 bounty hunters to take down the evil space manipulator Zy and his seemingly endless alien hordes.
Starlair is a Metroidvania where the players create the worlds. You play as a bounty hunter traveling the galaxy looking for adventure - and riches. Every planet in the galaxy is created by another player. Either play or build - or both! It's up to you.
The world creator allows you to build your own Metroidvania style adventure game and then add it to the co-operative story mode that will challenge players.

I liked being able to make your own thing and I LOVED the updates and I still do!
It's a Metroid Maker meets No Man Sky. Nice graphics, fun gameplay and the editor is powerful and easy to use. A Metroid fanatic like me is in ecstasy and the developer is adding new stuff pretty much every day. Absolutely great.
This game has kept me up night after night getting absolutely lost in the world building. I didn't even realise I'd played 10 hours already! Starlair is an absolutely amazing game and it gets better every day.

Have enjoyed playing other people's worlds and its fun to see the puzzles they implement. Even as a person who is not creating I think this is an great game.
The game is cool, but it does have your standard early access querks. The controls are very floaty and you run a very real risk of doubling up on something you didn't mean to do. For instance: Be careful running past a planet console if you jump a lot. The button for jumping is also the button for reporting a planet. If the planet console window is open when you run past, if you hit jump you will report the planet. Second, while it is funny you can spam the shooting button while the death animation is going, it is far less funny if you end up getting back to the ship while still doing it, as you will leave the planet with no confirmation weather you mean to or not. The starting health pool is a little low if you are someone who gets hit a lot (and I do) so if you aren't good at avoiding hits the game can be very much a random game of rocket tag. My first planet I landed on, I ended up having to fight off enemies that deal 30 damage in a single hit (when you only have 50 health by default) and also having to dodge spikes, which appear to do 20 health in 1 hit. There is no easy planet/tutorial planet if you are a newbie, you will get the same planet randomization pool as everyone else. So be prepared that your first planet has the potential to be... rough. The game certainly has some numbers tweaking that needs to happen. Other than these issues, the game is really good. And if you are looking for a metroid maker/galaxy exploration style experience, this is really a good choice.
Inverted vertical controls are only option while navigating space. There is an interesting concept of a game here but I don't feel this is good enough, I'm afraid. Definitely needs a pass on the UI and accessibility front, and I feel the ground gameplay isn't very deep. Didn't test the editor thing; it probably is the part given the most love, but that's kind of bad when playing the game doesn't feel fun.
Okay, this game was good before the 2.0 update. Now it is just ai slop. There is ai music and art. It sucks. The new planet exploration and starlair system is horrible, the old no mans sky thing was just way more fun. Every new system has the same planets.
Hugely unimproved for months.
This is excellent! Need more games like this!
it's a great enine where players can make map for you to enjoy and you be your bottom dollar that loving map recrations of other games are a thing already. the controls are a bit stiff and take some time to get used to but don't let that deter you as it could've been improved after this review went live but even if it doesn't it's functional enough and so go explore this ever expanding galaxy and mybe collect a artifact or 2 or 9999999999999999999999999999999
