Stardust Vanguards is pretty damn fun despite not being a particularly outstanding game. The reinforcement mechanic is really poorly implemented. In co-op it's borderline useless. Combat feels fluid but a lot of the mechanics in combination just feel very awkward. The shield just doesn't protect you in most situations against the AI. I'm guessing the game is designed more around the versus than the co-op modes. But even then, the versus mode which started off being a skill based 1 v 1 quickly turned into a bullet hell with AI units chasing me and my friend around while we had next to no player interaction with each other. I think the price is right with Stardust Vanguards. It's a genuinely fun game that's pretty rough around the edges. I got some enjoyment out of it.

I'd consider this game if I wanted a local co-op game. It's gorgeous bit style graphics really make it smooth as buttah and the controls are simple, and that takes away from the solo mode. Give it a shot if you're looking for a classic local multiplayer game

Stardust Vanguards is a nice little game where the concept is to go around in a mech-like suit, wielding a giant laser sword where you slash down enemy ships. The only other weapons you have at your disposal is a gun, suggested by the bullets, however I've never figured out how to fire any nor did I find a button to fire them. Your only mode of defense is a shield bubble that lasts untl the little bar crammed in with your name depletes. It's only multiplayer so far that appears to be just local, you'll know this because as it is with any typical local co-op game - it's gotta have the four colors. Red, Blue, Yellow and Green. There is no online play and if you have no friends well, you're going to be on your own for quite a bit in this game. Granted, you can't really expect a lot of people to even know of this game, let alone find anyone to play it with. It's just one of those games that's sucked up in a saturated pool of local multiplayer games. The pixel artstyle is at least okay and decently projected. The ships look nice, the mech faces look badass and don't expect those same details to transcend into the gameplay because the mechs are pixel figures. At least they're comprehensible. The controls are just fine and things seem to respond decently as you'd want them to as you just go buzzing around swinging that laser sword, as it's trying not to replicate the star wars lightsaber hum sound in doing so. But man it wants to sometimes. Stardust Vanguards is not a bad game, but it's also nothing stellar either. It looks like another game that delivers local co-op and versus, four color players to give them something to do. Yet, who the hell are you going to find to play this with? It's on sale for dirt cheap, it doesn't gain a lot of people and the novelty factor can even wear off after a while. I can't recommend.
