After I saw a friend posted the guide linked above and saw it only took around 3h to complete this game I thought I would give it a go and see how I would do. Normally I'm very bad at this game so when I read the completion time I expected I need more time than that, especially since the game is listed as difficult, but I was surprised, with the tips in the guide I was able to complete the game in under 3 hours, might have been faster if I had read the guide better so I knew the 5k monsters had to be done in 1 run. I enjoyed this game and I'm glad it didn't overstay its welcome.
ZZzzzz How to fix this game 1. Developers go search GDC talk on Juicyness and implement 2. Add secondary attack with cooldown to characters so players have more agency and control over actions 3. Speed up bullet travel time and distance, vary by character 4. Consider melee attack for Valkyrie and Warrior characters 5. Add knockback effects for heroes and enemies 6. Use screenshake, screen tint during certain actions or events 7. Code lots of events for sounds to play, include fade in and fade out controls, then hire a sound engineer and let him work his magic I hope this feedback helps anyone making games.
All you do is shoot down a hallway, even during your first run it will feel reptitive. All the characters are basically the same, there are some minor differences in fire rate and damage but it really doesn't matter that much. Shops rarely provide something worth buying, quests often aren't possible and even if they are their reward often doesn't matter. Leveling up seems to do nothing except every 5 levels you get some hp and the sprite for your weapon changes. The way you die in this game is sometimes you get spawned into a room where you are surrounded by enemies, or if enough imps are stacked on top of one another you can get instantly killed because you get hit by 20 projectiles.
It's Gauntlet, only more pixelated and randomized. And you can only play co-op if you have multiple controllers. (The keyboard and/or mouse don't count, even though you can play the game with keyboard and mouse.) If you really have trouble falling asleep, maybe get it on sale.
Heroes of Loot is a lazy 2D retro pixel ripoff of Gauntlet. I'm unsure how but for a game released in 2015, it has worse graphics than the original arcade Gauntlet. 30 years of industry development and advancement, and the indie game movement gives us games which are worse than the ones our parents were playing. Gameplay is no better in this case, it's lazily slapped together without much consideration. The game appears to be ported from peasant consoles and thinks HOTAS and racing wheels are peasant controllers, rendering the game unplayable if you use these gaming peripherals, yet another insult to gamers everywhere. Impossible to recommend.
Fun, old school feel to the game. However, unless you're an achievement obsessed person, the fun may only last a few hours.
It's okay to burn some time. Full screen didn't work for me. 6/10
Pretty decent roguelike with more than a little nod to Gauntlet. Simple cute graphics and sfx are backed up by some excellent music. You likely won`t play it for weeks but it`s solid arcadey fun you can drop back in on from time to time. It has a frantic pace that isn`t fully matched by the characters ability to deal damage even after levelling so it`s easy to get overwhelmed quicky later on by the tiniest of enemies, looking at you little bug monsters. A couple of the characters feel a bit underpowered compared to others and a few of the random quests feel like they have unwinnable goals. A pet peeve, like a lot of games the need to put messages over the middle of the screen while in the thick of the action annoys the hell out of me ! Screen shake is also a little overdone. Good stuff.
