Whilst a perfectly functional game of solo space exploration. I found everything from the combat, ship building, research, exploration, and the story to be uninspiring and incredibly dull. Buy it if you have a scratch to itch but otherwise you will miss out on nothing by not playing this game,
This is the closest game to Starcontrol 2 that I have ever played. And yes, I have played Starcontrol: Origins. If you loved Starcontrol 2, then I highly recommend this game. One warning though, you HAVE to pay attention and read everything. Just like Starcontrol 2, there are problems you have to solve by randomly finding things out in space, and you have to remember where it was that you needed to use that item. Thankfully the game has a feature that allows you to add a note to a point in space. Also, ship design is a bit overly complicated in my opinion, but that is really my only complaint. So, Starcom: Unknown Space is NOT for people who just want to turn their brain off and shoot some stuff, but for the rest of you... I highly recommend buying it. Starcom: Nexus was pretty fun too, so I might recommend picking that up too.
I see others seem to like this game. I guess Im the 1 in 10 people who think its sub-par at best. Its just classic poor game design. The objectives are unclear. The next place you are suppost to go is also unclear and frustrating. You are forced to scan things constantly along the way for reasons unknown and for a game where I just want to turn my brain off and shoot stuff in space...constantly having to scan everything boarders the absurd. Your ship runs on a stamina system which for a lack of a better word...is frustrating!
Great get while on sale, personally I see it a little pricey at MSRP. The ship builder is pretty intuitive while offering decent depth for what this game is focusing on. You can get enough tech to make any weapon your main focus if you really want, though some may take longer than others. I think I was generally positive but mid on this game until I decided to go exploring in a random direction, deep into the black with no indication anything was there except the world border. Lo and behold in the middle of nowhere I found a species completely different from anything I had seen thus far. Plus anything that lets me itano circus earns serious points.
I haven't exactly played it a ton but it just gave very mediocre vibes, didn't feel like it did anything super well and ended up feeling like this game didn't do anything amazingly well enough to be more worth playing over something else that has a bit more focus and improvement on some aspects, the exploration is kinda cool, the combat is pretty fun, trading is meh, crew skills and management are neat, but I just feel like tthere are other games that do one or a few of these things far better. Wish there were a neutral option but I think to general public I'd have to say not reccomend, but if ur like a fan of space games and have pretty much played most other things like you aren't gonna hate this, its just not gonna scratch any itches as well as something else might.
One of the best space exploration games available. Lot's of things to discover. Very good ship builder. In short, i can recommend this game for everyone that enjoys exploration in a very large open space world.
Reminds me of Star Control 2 but instead of picking from a bunch of ships you build your own from a modular system. It's simple but fun.
I wanted to like this game, I really did, Though game design is horrible, So many times I get stuck on quests not knowing what to do, things don't spawn as they would if I followed the exact path the developers imagined. To add insult to injury that exact path also requires exploring the world without a guide. You are supposed to randomly just fly off in some direction with no good reason and hope to find something to progress the story. Final nail in the coffin was trying to get a final achievement. Random spawn in the vastness of space that takes literally hours (if it spawns at all). There is so much potential here, but wow is this game frustrating if you try to finish it. (If you want to give it a few hours and stop at the first blocker, this is a 10/10 game in its genre, but that is not my playstyle, hence the thumbs down.)
If you like exploration, figuring things out on your own then this is a good game for you. Other things that I enjoyed was the ship designing, every time I docked with the base I tinkered with my ship layout and it felt satisfying every time. All through the game I got more tools, more stuff to research and more stuff to improve my ship. A good game that had a very good length, did'nt overstay its welcome and a very satisfying game.
Любителям космосимов, а так-же фанатам Космических рейнджеров точно зайдет. Это еще и рпг в полном смысле!
