Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 2.71/day in the week to Aug 8 → 3.29/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I have been a massive fan of Alone in the Dark for a very, VERY long time. My very first ever horror game was the original 1992 Alone in the Dark, and I have to say this... thinking about that experience genuinely still gives me chills down my spine. Skip ahead to 2024 and we got shown/teased a new Alone in the Dark. A reboot (or reimagining) of the original survival horror classic we all knew to love. I was waiting patiently for my new PC to arrive to finally play it. I finally did and I... really wish I didn't. Why? you might ask, well below I will explain.
What I liked
⚫While playing there are some nods to the original Alone in the Dark games, such as - specific "lagniappes" (collectables) that are a direct reference to the original game. One that really got me was in the clerk's office before chapter 4 you can find a burnt book of Alone in the Dark with the first game's cover art, which is really cool! ⚫The puzzle's were fun to solve. They kept me engaged in the story and, I can't lie... I craved more puzzles (as that's the only thing that really made me want to stay). ⚫I personally think that Dave Harbour is perfectly cast as Edward and he really suits the role. ⚫Optimisation wise, I had no issues with my game. Either it's because of my new PC or they fixed all the issues people were reporting.
What I didn't like
⚫You get to choose between 2 characters, Edward or Emily. After playing the game once you can play as the other character for character specific collectables. I thought the story was going to be... different. It's not. It's basically the exact same which is an utter disappointment. No different puzzles, no different boss fights, no different paths to take... all goes the same. ⚫The combat is terrible. Absolutely terrible. At no point did I enjoy the boring, bland "point-and-shoot" combat the game offers. You get bricks to "throw and distract" enemies... but you can't sneak up behind one and hit it across the head to stealth kill it? You get molotovs that like to just randomly explode before impact... what? Did I light it or not? ⚫Melee weapons. What is the difference between a bladed melee weapon or a blunt one? Well, in THIS Alone in the Dark - NOTHING. They all have the same durability and deal the same damage. Not only that, when the weapon breaks... you can't throw hands at enemies. Are you to stupid to hit them with your fists? Not saying Emily is to weak to do that but... Edward would be able to knock one of them out cold... c'mon. ⚫Enemies never scared me. They never challenged me. Never kept me on my toes. Never once had me fleeing for my life. So what I am saying is - for a survival horror game... it lacks all aspects of horror. ⚫Whoever designed the enemies needs to re-think their "designs". These enemies completely lack in detail and creativity. They are bland. All except the final boss. Compare it to recent games like RE2 or RE3... I am ashamed of this game's enemy designs. ⚫The price is way to steep in my opinion. Not worth £34.99. I think it's only this price because of who plays Edward and Emily (Dave Harbour and Jodie Comer) ⚫The graphics are a tad... behind on the times. It's either graphics or animation quality. I personally wasn't a fan of how stuff looked.
My Verdict
At the end of the day Alone in the Dark (2024) is a mess of a game. I am only saying this because of my love for the original Alone in the Dark series and have always wanted a new one. What really let's this game down is just how boring and barebones the combat felt. How truly bland the enemy design was and the final nail was the lack of scariness the game actually had. I hate to say it, I really do but I cannot recommend this. Not at £35. Please remember that this is my opinion and I am speaking from MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE and sharing my own thoughts. You might love the game. I don't. That's the beauty of free will and your own opinion.
2/10. Barebones combat, blandly designed enemies and no true "horror" makes this reboot a slog to play
I'm just gonna start by saying that for 2 years I avoided this game, all due to the reviews. Alone In The Dark is a solid survival horror. The puzzles are top notch, the story is semi interesting once you get into it a bit. The combat does have abit of jank but nothing game breaking. The visuals/environment are also pleasing to the eye. It's a decent experience and any true fan of Resident Evil, The Evil Within, Dead Space, TLOU, Cronos, Alan Wake and Silent Hill will enjoy this game for one play through. It's nothing ground breaking but still worth the experience. 7.5/10
If you are a fan of Lovecraft and the Cthulhu Mythos, this one is an absolute must-play. Some of the most popular tropes from the Cthulhu Mythos are referenced here (ironically not Cthulhu though). Nyarlahotep, check. Azathoth, check. Shub-Niggurath, check. The catacombs of Nephren-Ka, check. The main enemy creatures are otherworldly in the same vein. Mechanically, the game seems to be heavily inspired by recent Resident Evil games, specifically the recent RE2, RE3 or RE4 games. Which is ironic considering that the first few RE games were actually inspired by the original DOS Alone In The Dark game from 1993. Regardless, it makes this game accessible and easy to get into. Like the original 1993 game, you can choose to play as either Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood, both characters have slightly different encounters and paths, making it feasible to replay the game as the other character once you finish as any one of them. This game is definitely a return to form for the Alone In The Dark series and I hope we get more sequels in this same vein.
Alone in the Dark is a very interesting gameplay and remake attempt at absolute classic yada yada yada… The game is mid, it offers nothing particularly well done except plot and characters who are enough of a saving grace for me to reconsider making it nonetheless a positive review. A 5+/10 game that is somewhat buggy despite how simple and linear it is (you will occasionally float above ladders, get stuck because of weird object collisions if you take a wrong step while exploring, miss your shots because hitboxes in this game are something of a mystery), the puzzles are not too much fun (they are generally too easy, even without any tips or in like 1-2 cases badly designed and impossible to guess), the action sequences are meh (repetitive, but also it’s just hard to describe how tedious it can get sometimes)... Exploration is also not that fun, the heroes move too slowly… Generally there are a lot of complaints that stretch to virtually every aspect of the game, but don’t get me wrong, it is not by any means a terrible game, just an unpolished one mostly. And ironically enough all of these problems were not this much of a hassle because of how well done the storyline was, how the characters were written in a fun way, and how nicely the plot tied everything in the end. So why a negative review after all? Well, the game quite clearly teases that based on if you chose Carnby or Emily they have somewhat different adventures. And they do. A little different. Which was rather a big disappointment since I had hoped that while one campaign will focus on the possessed uncle, the other would focus on just why this place is haunted actually. It doesn’t and this makes the ending, an ending I enjoyed otherwise without playing the other campaign, a deus ex machina because of the plot twist. And it leaves a very bitter aftertaste. I just hope that if the creators will make a sequel to this game, and I am willing to give them a second chance, they will polish their product more so it will be less buggy than this game, the plot will either focus on a single hero or there will be proper different storylines for each one and the writing… if it stays on the same level it did here then the game will be just great ;)
Jumped into the game with zero expectations and received one of the best and most intense Lovecraftian videogame experiences.
Better AA game than I would have expected finished with Emily on "hard" difficulty in about 8.5 hours but listened to all narrator dialog and all 50+ clue dialog likely+1-2 hours. Estimate 6 hours for first time normal difficulty playtrough. Repeat playtroughs likely faster as you skip that+no longer get stuck on puzzles. TL,DR I recommend it at 20 euros or below. Give it a 8.25 There is a very big differnce between normal and hard difficulty. Normal can easily ignore survival mechanics ,hard will likely need to use melee and thowables a lot or even stealth.Easy can likely focus on story. Now start with Cons:There are shader caching issues but there is a game option to reduce it+you can fps cap. Recommended to set volumetric lighting down from cinematic. Enemy vareity is low and the smallest steam boat creature seems to be very tanky and dmging compared to bigger sized humanoid ones. If you are not good at circle strafing and dodging Final boss will be a pain so just not stand still. Hard to judge when melee weapons breaks as there is no durability bar only a warning on hard some melee weapons can not kit a single enemy before breaking. Weapons have slightly different durabilities.....from experience. Can not store throwable items. Can not easy to determine if throwable item is a molotov, oil or rock........Same icon. The whole opportunity thing is janky and can be ignored on lower difficulties. Neutral:Game cutscenes are 60fps and rarely shader cache so drop frames. Pros:Good overall Perfomance with 120fps cap everything on cinematic, volumetric on epic, mblur off 1080 p on my RX 6800 OC R5 5600 16Gb RAM installed on Nvme SSD. It is primary a puzzle based detective game with some combat. It also has stealth but it is kinda janky often easier to run past enemies. Estimate 25% combat 75% exploration. You can play as 2 charaters you get different charater responses and likely slight differences but 85% of the game will be the same. You can collect optional items and unlock the shotgun, additonal lore, objectives and even secret endings. But that takes playtrough with both charaters and strong exploration for those optional items. NG+ has slighly different enemy placement(including for charater unique sections) and slight alterations for additonal replay value. 2 playtroughs are recommended. As an additonal pro you will hardly know what the F-is happening you can read a lot of clue and backstory stuff. Very well done. Well done voice acting,in game clues(books, notes etc)and quest narration is all voice acted and done well. You might want to take notes or pictures to help with some puzzles. Charater gets dmged model eg.bleeing noise is stays during cutscenes until you heal the dmg. (might not be true on lower GFX settings.)
