About
Starbase is a massively multiplayer online game with gameplay focused on building and designing spaceships and stations, exploration, resource gathering, crafting, trading, and combat.
Set in a universe of vast scale and detail, the fully-destructible environment and hybrid voxel/vertex-based game mechanics enable simulations in Starbase at immense depth, giving players the ultimate freedom to exploit their innovativeness and creativity. From constructing spaceships that can endure the hazards of space, such as collision and corrosive damages, to creating massive automated factories and designing electricity and data networks, the players are free to do it their own way.

A single persistent Universe - Play and interact online with thousands of players and start shaping the world with your fellow robots.
Build, fight, chat and group up with other players to discover and settle the vast galaxy that is waiting for its first conquerors to make their mark.
Mine asteroids by yourself, trade and haul cargo with your friends, or build a station with a huge company.
Success in Starbase is not measured in hours played or an endless grind, but in the ingenuity of each player and their ability to work together.

The environment in Starbase is fully destructible, made possible by a mixture of voxel and fracture damage - Everything can be destroyed or disassembled with the right kind of tools and weaponry.
The in-depth physics simulation enabled by hybrid voxel/vertex-based game mechanics make fights, exploration and flying spaceships a creative paradise
The simulation of structural and elemental durability in the game adds its own twist and challenge to the efforts to conquer space; poorly designed superstructures combined with overpowered steering thrusters can snap the spaceships in half if cutting corners too much in a space race.
Note: Station destruction will be added in the September Siege Mechanics Update

Design and build your spaceship, stations and devices down to the tiniest detail, and live the spaceship designer dream by selling your blueprints.
The smallest building unit in Starbase is a single bolt, allowing you to build, repair and modify spaceships, stations, and devices as you wish.
Even the smallest ships have thousands of parts, each with their own detailed damage model, making building and designing a truly creative process.
Learning to use the in-game programming chips will take building and designing to a new level; innovation, automation of ships and creating clever ship layouts will make all the difference!

Engage in seamless FPS and spaceship combat with thousands of players simultaneously.
Fly solo or crew up with others to divide roles and responsibilities.
Creative thinking, crazy ideas and daring maneuvers can turn the tide of battles!

Explore the infinitely expanding universe, and discover stations, asteroid fields, spaceship wrecks, social hubs and fellow travelers.
Arrange an exploration mission with friends and find out what's hidden in the depths of space and the faraway moons
Beware of pirates and unknown dangers when venturing into the uncharted territories!

Mine raw minerals from asteroids and salvage different parts from broken ships, trade your salvaged goods at trading stations, or steal from others if that floats your (space)boat.
Buy, sell and trade ship parts, materials, weapons, tools, ammo, designs, and invent new ways of earning credits in a player driven economy.
Form friendships and alliances, group up with others and establish factions to build massive stations and tackle the most difficult hurdles space has to offer.

Starting station safe zones safeguard the new player experience
Dynamic safe zones configurable on player-owned stations
Starbase is developed with Frozenbyte’s internal game engine that is custom-built for conquering space, enabling the use of extremely challenging combination of voxel and vertex technologies in the game. The modern engine has been built specifically with Starbase in mind and the engine’s architecture is designed to handle all the quirks of simulation, damage, building, player amounts and the ever-growing universe to match the challenges the ambitious vision of the game can pose. Similarly, all features of the game have been developed with the infinite scale and the creative freedom of the players in mind.
Starbase has been in secret development for five years without restraints and the development will continue until the game’s bold vision is achieved. In the ever-expanding space the scale can range from the unit of one bolt to massive space station structures, with exploration missions varying from journeys to nearby asteroid fields, to salvaging ship debris, and eventually to other galaxies.
In Starbase players are given the freedom to build the kind of universe they want to, and a small group of players can eventually form large factions that challenge the powers that be. Being inventive will also help, as cleverness often triumphs over brute force in Starbase, and the only limitation is the creativity of the players.
Starbase Early Access will introduce the players, the pioneers, to a new galaxy that they can begin to explore from a bunch of huge stations located at the orbit of a single planet. As the players eventually settle the entire orbit, they can start finding ways to travel to the planet’s moons and someday all the way to other planets and distant star systems. The still unoccupied universe of Starbase offers players the chance to take part in the building of the galaxy and in discovering what will be the first steps in the twilight of space travel.
Early Access allows the players to design, build & modify spaceships, explore the universe, form social connections, and earn money by mining, gathering, crafting and selling resources. The players can start building their home stations and begin the expansion of the Starbase universe together with the developers.
Starbase launches into Early Access in a clear alpha stage, however the core features are well established and there's fun to be had for sure. Check out our current roadmap below:

Reviews
Incredible game concept, poor player count. Launch was messy, and the game will not appeal to casual audiences. I recommend Starbase if you're an exceptionally enthusiastic fan of spaceship building games.
Обидно :( У игрушки был огромный потенциал, в идеале она могла затмить собой оооочень многие космосимы. Но разрабы всё всрали и сейчас игра мертва.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

@ Frozenbyte Please open-source this software. You can even do it in a way that enables commercial forks. When/if you are ever able to return and continue development, you can then re-fork and provide copies to those who have bought your game. If not, the code will at least be out there. This is better than the game being dead, and you will receive goodwill from the community and even prospective players for doing this and this being part of your story.
Development has been paused for a long time, then the devs came back for a short time, now it's dead again. Since there hasn't been any news on any channels known to me, I assume it has finally been abandoned.
Very happy to see that development continues, because it's a great game after all
I wish, I wish, I wish. They'd just kept improving this. I remember how hyped i was for this game in 2021, it was amazing. But I couldn't recommend it now. IT was THE space game. Literally had everything you'd want ever. So so sad they had to abandon it because of funding. Will they ever get the funding to continue development please please do so. I will recommend this game to not overwhelm the developers with even more negative reviews about the same thing. Even if they don't look at these reviews anymore... But that said it is supposed to be a negative review.
It's been a while since I last played this game. Writing this review feels a little like writing an obituary for someone who had a promising future. As far as space sim games go, this one had the best setting and game mechanics. You could build your own unique space ship or buy one already created. The building mechanics felt complicated to a newbie like myself and they were buggy too, but I could see the vision of what the devs were going for and it was great. You could go as far as writing java programs to help operate your ship. One of the most common programs people wrote were simple ones to decrease needless fuel consumption on their ships. During my time playing, I also heard it was common for players to search around for damaged and abandoned ships and restore them for fun. All that being said I do not recommend this game. Starbase was designed as a game heavily oriented multiplayer game, but barely anyone plays anymore. Like the broken ships floating around in Starbase's space, it too is broken, a beautiful and halfway constructed cruiser left to drift in space getting smashed up by asteroids over time. I can only hope that one day the devs will return and finally finish the construction of this masterpiece of a vessel.
The worst game ever, an internet gamers story. Starbase is my game, my server, no one else plays here and I love it, please don't play and don't read this post, it's complete waffel. For the first time ever that I have been playing Starbase the server is down for me and some other players, not all. The developers posted a message around about a day after the issue arose to say that they were aware and gave a detailed reason as to why it might be a few days until it is fixed. I am so bored out of my mind I decided to look around steam and noticed that compared to Starbase all the other games on there were total ****. So I ended up here in the worst game ever invented, the attention game. Back in the day I played a game called world of warcraft, I had a man bear pig guy and endless other people to smash. I loved it. oh wait it was a tree not a pig. But it came with a level of organisation which was new in gaming which required the use of the most awful game ever invented, the web forum. The web forum game worked like this. People posted some biased statement including opinions and references to some part of their agenda. Others replied, and they won. They had written proof of your attention. Needless to say that I don't make many posts on forums and I never reply to any posts ever. However I do know how this game is played. It is the oldest game on the web. Starbase will only continue to grow. Last year designers were hit with a large update that opened up many new possibilities in what you can build in the game. This had a dramatic effect on players. Many decided that it was too much work to change their designs, but not all. I understand that most of you do not have the time it takes to even learn how the ship designer interface works. It is complex compared to most other games. For now if you haven't much time for complex building starbase does offer content, but not repetitive loops. Starbase is the best sandbox ever conceived of and created and you can have it for very little. As a designer that last thing that I want is a change to how ship design works, so updates don't concern me much. People that like this game do not stop playing it. I will not stop playing it. Every so often another person like me gets the game. So this game will only continue to grow. That play loop that you want so bad is coming. It just needs the co operation of a small number of players to coordinate their ideas a little better. Remember I won't read your replies, but your friends will, or maybe skim it or just +1 and not read it. who knows? How old is this **** game? why do you still play it? I had to delete most of this to conform to guidelines :/ It was a pretty good rant before I had to trim it down
Starbase is an aimless mess of a game with clunky controls, a haphazard interface, boring gameplay and almost no players. The core conceit is that it's a ship builder, but the building tools suck and are buggy to boot. Ship controls are...agricultural. It's like they've never played a space sim and tried designing a control scheme from scratch. Gameplay consists of flying to asteroids, breaking them up, and hauling back the stuff. Anything else they label as "gameplay" is best ignored. Combat blows, trading is trash, crafting is slow and esoteric, base building is a grind, hell - everything in this game is a pointless grind! I came in, as did hundred of players, drawn to and sold on the premsise that we were getting next gen Space Engineers in an always online sandbox. It is not even close. The first couple of days were a wonderful chaotic mess of people barging in, cluttering space with half arsed starter ships, and bumbling around trying to get into the game, that was 2 years ago. I haven't seen any significant progress since and it looks like the game is abandoned and the player base flatlined. Avoid! 2/10
Abandonware. Botched launch and misguided dev team.
