Космическое садоводство
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3046268723
Star Farmer: Warlock of the Universe was featured on my YouTube channel https://youtu.be/Ub6V7VLNcAU and now onto the short review
TL;DR Review
//intro// Welcome back comrades, this is MF Kraven & you are watching less than 10 mins reviews. The YouTube series where I take a look at games i think seem cool & give my thoughts on them in less than 10 mins. I review games by the following ranking, Buy it Now! Wait for Sale & Do Not Buy. Today I take a look at Star Farmer: Warlock of the Universe. A bullet hell game, with lite farming, survivors rouge-lite game in space. And while that sounds like a lot- so it's got a little bit of everything for the whole family! But will this amalgamation of all popular genres take off or will we need to call Houston for help.. Lets find out! //Graphics, Sound & Artstyle// Can I just say, bravo to Tinker Town. The artstyle, the sounds, but especially that music... everything about it is just perfect to me. I will be needing a copy of that soundtrack as i cant stop thinking about it despite me not even knowing what the singer is saying. //Gameplay// You are a warlock on a spaceship, you first fuel up by mining nearby asteroids & then you're off to explore the universe. You land on planets with vegetation you must harvest you are then given 3 options to choose from a power-up, some include an extra weapon, lightning strikes, lazer beams, drones, or any variation that a Survivors game could have. Upon choosing you go and harvest said vegetation, some are alive & will attack you. If you don't fill up your harvest line to a certain point before time runs out or lose all your HP you will be transported back to your spaceship. From here you will decorate your ship with furniture you may have picked up on planets, plant seeds that some enemies have dropped or discover companions that you bring back to your ship. The seeds being the farming sim portion of the game. You plant & cultivate these seeds then once you can pick em out you will be able to open up a vendor (prices vary by time of day, vendor type etc). You gain money & spend it on points for either your ship, drones or yourself. You can improve your strength, attack speed, range of attacks, buy a drone to water, plant or harvest your seeds & much more by buying the stat augmentations to your warlock. Hint: buying your seed discovery & plots of space to plant will ultimate generate you the most money in my experience. The game is divided in 6 chapters and 5 space routes. Each space route after I has 20 planets with increasing difficulty you must travel through. Once all 20 planets are complete you move onto an even harder space route. This took me about 8 hours to finish HOWEVER i then unlocked an Endless Mode. //Price// 5 USD //How many hours estimated// Like aforementioned I beat the game in about 8 hours, but I still have not unlocked all power ups nor have i really touched on the endless mode but i can see myself playing it for another 10 hours minimum or i may just go until I 100% it. //Is it Playable on Steamdeck?// Yes! I tested it for about an hour, didn't drain my battery even with a screen full of enemies. And while there is no Save Cloud, I am not opposed to starting over //Final Thoughts// This one really took me by surprise as I am normally the person who says there is such a thing as "too much good stuff" but I am glad that I was so very wrong. Everything just works in tandem with Star Farmer. The music, the aesthetic, the gameplay loop, the farming is kind of an afterthought but necessary if you want to improve, I've relegated that to automation with my drones but i digress. The randomness of each level with the complete mystery of what you will use in an expedition, maybe you'll go heavy with bombs or have an army of drones, nay- equip yourself with 3 nanoharvesters & haste to make your attack speed make opponents bleed seeds. What I'm getting at is that Star Farmer is GREAT and while after almost 10 hours i would like a little variation with enemies, I cant really complain as the game is only $5 USD. By now the phrase "just one more turn" can be considered cliche at best but that is truly how I felt about Space Farmer. Hell I completed the game in two sittings because I wanted to see what was at the end of the universe and while there is a story with some of the passengers you pick up along the way. I didn't much care for it until the end, I just wish I was paying a little more attention to it instead of raging going back on an expedition to get more money to get stronger. So how does it rank up? The Bullet Hell aspect is awesome, although even with a bunch of speed attributes- i still feel like my character is clunky. Luckily the blinking mechanic which is just a teleport will save you in dire situations. The farming aspect is just alright, what made the experience more fun for me is the fluctuating prices in the market. The decoration, while you have no control on what to put what, it feels nice to fill up the ship with furniture and other little critters to feel more homely till now I haven't even really mentioned the mini-game for gathering fuel, its not really memorable & the only real use for it is obviously to fuel your spaceship but if you have a ton of drones, they will automatically plant, water & harvest your crops & real time keeps going while you're gathering fuel. All in all, the game is beautiful, the price is perfect, and its a ton of fun. It plays great on the SteamDeck with little to no drainage on the battery. So what rating does Space Farmer: Warlock of the Universe gets? Buy it now!
Buy it Now!
A fun game with an satisfying (and challenging) gameplay loop. It's hard not to go for one more run after collecting a big harvest.
It's got a fun gameplay loop, inasmuch as it does the bullet heaven thing pretty well. The main difference between this and other entries in the bullet heaven genre is that you can't spend your resources after a run. Instead, you need to play the farming minigame first and then sell your crops to buy upgrades. There appears to be no other complexity to the farming minigame other than plant, water, and wait. No fertilizer choice or cross breeding, etc... Sound design is next to non-existent. There's chill music, but there's no sound effects for the enemies or your abilities. There few sound effects that do exist play even when sound is entirely turned off. The completionist in me wants to collect everything, and thankfully, there's no game-breaking bugs that would prevent me from doing so! Yes, it's got it's rough patches, but the developer is committed to working on it and so far, I'd say it's worth the price.
A surprisingly bad game. Everything in the game lacks a description, maybe it was design choice maybe it was laziness. The game feels like it is balanced around having all the meta upgrades right from the start, which makes 80% of the upgrades feel useless and frustrating to get. The farming aspect of the game is just automated right at the beginning but you still have to wait on it to have currency to buy meta upgrades, honestly not sure why it is in the game at all (besides for the game being named after it). The game is just kind of a mess.
Very relaxing game! I loved the music and colour palette.
A really fun spin on the genre. It's very calming for a bullet heaven, and I love the muted and chill music
Just about two hours in, I have a pretty good handle on this game's pros and cons. Super fun gameplay loop. You just keep going from run to run and naturally improve. The gameplay never feels punishing or demanding. The visuals and music are adorably distinctive and not easily mistaken with other games. Most notable though is that I've been more into cozy types of games lately and this is perhaps the ultimate cozy-meets-bullet heaven title I've ever encountered. Could easily imagine people who aren't often interested in bullet hells possibly being swayed by this one. The atmosphere is just that laid back and immersive. It's always nice to come back from a run and see more little creatures running around and new types of furniture livening up a once empty area. Planting crops and getting dramatically stronger through upgrades obtained from selling them is a persistently rewarding loop. There are some areas for improvement. More events would be good, and maybe more functionalities at base. Would like to get to know the little creatures that randomly appear and start running around for example. Moreover, the furniture just plopping down is OK but some type of random RNG reward selection similar to choosing power ups- that would be more satisfying and add some element of choice even if it would mainly be an illusion. But in closing, having fun with this multi-genre hybrid and keen on playing more of it soon.
THE GAME IVE BEEN WAITING FOR!!!! Satisfying. Stress relieving. SUPERB
This is the kind of game you jump into thinking you'll only spend 15-20 minutes in before taking a break. Then you look at your watch or clock, and it's been 5 hours. And then you come back for some more. It's a really laid-back roguelike/survivors-like and it's an absolute joy to play. Part of it might be the music, which is exceptional. The farming aspect is interesting, and truly becomes worth it as you upgrade your helper drones to handle the farming for you. There are different stages for you to explore which will give you access to certain types of plants. Lots of upgrades to enjoy, and overall it's just a beautiful experience that I highly recommend. 21 Nov - Updating for the Steam Autumn Sale. Game's still great.
