Spyro was one of my favorite games growing up, so picking up the Reignited Trilogy was a no-brainer. I mainly bought it for the nostalgia, but I ended up getting something even better out of it. My 5-year-old son loves it. The game is easy enough for him to figure out on his own most of the time, and it's been awesome watching him run around collecting gems and exploring the levels just like I did when I was his age. Every now and then he asks for help with a tougher part, but for the most part he's able to play by himself and have a great time. The remake looks great, the controls feel good, and the games still hold up all these years later. It's been really cool getting to share something from my childhood with my kid and seeing him enjoy it as much as I did. If you grew up with Spyro, you'll probably love this collection. And if you've got young kids, it's a surprisingly good game to introduce them to as well.
✩ É um dos meus jogos de conforto, recomendo muito. Jogo esse jogo desde criança, saudades! ✩
Basically they're the original games but with modern graphics, so with that comes the same gameplay they offered including some of the clunkiness they had as well, mainly with the flying, camera, and difficulty inconsistencies. The first game is pretty fair, maybe on the easy side, but it feels right for a platformer, with the main challenge finding the secret areas to collect all the gems on each map, and Tree Tops that level is notoriously ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ having to run all those damn ramps to get the final gems the turbo charging is so stiff turning is such a pain to deal with. This level is infamous for its ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ it's like the Rob Schneider cameo in an Adam Sandler movies you know it's coming eventually and you'll hate every second of it. The second game the main issue is all the difficulty spikes in each level. The main difference in 2 is instead of recurring the dragons from one you do a challenges in each level to get gems you need to open up doors and things in the main world. Like there's an ice level early on and the first challenge is like "oh yeah bring me my leopard" and you just follow it around and give it fish and it goes home its pretty simple because its in the early part of the game, but then the next challenge in the level is "oh fly around the caves and kill all these bugs, but the bugs will respawn and you'll have to do it again if you're not fast enough, and it requires perfect flying otherwise you'll fall in the water and have to restart, also you need to use the timed powerup so you have to hurry." The third game is better with challenges being more balanced in each level but there's the skateboarding part with the horrid physics so that'll test your patience and sanity more than Rob Schneider's Netflix show. The flying levels suck in every game though they're absolute ass sauce they're like Rob Schneider films. I mean they're absolute crap like his career, ya know. Nobodies ever said Deuce Bigalow is my favorite film. Why? because it's ass sauce just like the flying levels in these games they're the Deuce Bigalow of Spyro games. The thing with flying is how stiff it feels, turning is too slow and the camera is behind you all the time, but it doesn't catch up to you fast enough when you move up or down so you can't really see and to complete the level fully you have to go through all the rings and destroy all the other stuff in each level before the time runs out, they're pointless trial and error levels and trial and error levels are just pointless and tedious time wasters like Rob Schneider's career. Anyway games are fun collectable platformers but they are a bit dated in terms of camera and difficulty inconsistences. Solid enough even without the nostalgia factor.
I wouldn't buy this unless it's at an extremely deep discount. The developers did a horrible job, leaving lots of bugs and optimization issues with minimal display options and controller support. Activision just wanted the nostalgia cashgrab so seven years later there's no patches and there never will be.
Every single change made to the original trilogy in this remake was a mistake
This tri-remake lets you down gently, I guess. At first when you load up Spyro 1 you will be pleased by the visuals and how good of a job the developers made capturing the original artstyle without the tech limitations of the original Playstation. But then... holes in terrain are on the daily itenarery - there isn't a single level that doesn't have at least one mistake somewhere, be it rock walls not fitting exactly together or leaving a gap, grass overlays being too far up and, again, leaving a gap. You cannot escape them. Going into Spyro 2 the problems persist and other ones rear their ugly heads - texture and model popup in the background. No, not the one that you could expect when lowering the settings and with that lowering the draw distance. I mean actual entities and pieces of terrain dissappearing right in front of your eyes because the game seems to think they are hidden behind terrain or otherwise out of view so it unloads them in order to help performance. Going into Spyro 3 and all hell breaks loose. Every single minigame, which are plentiful in Spyro 3, is in some way broken. To name a few: - Cat hockey - your opponent can glitch out of the arena, making the game piss-easy - Whack-a-mole - moles stay stuck halfway through terrain after playing their emerging animation - Every skateboard race - you WILL get stuck at least once per round, either on terrain or glitching into one of your opponents - Agent 9 western shootout - opponents shoot you THROUGH walls - Tomb tank game - the collision on the outer supports is completely broken, you can basically walk out of bounds and I could go on. To top it all of, the things that work differently from the original trilogy on purpose are the most stupid thing ever and whoever came up with them deserves to get measles. Spyro 2 has the hardest bosses of the trilogy. The developers in their infinite wisdom decided that Spyro 2 was the ONLY game of the three that needed a buff. The second boss (Gulp) is now way harder than in the original game to the point that it's actually harder than the final boss. What's wrong with you!? The QoL changes are ballsed as well. You now have a new quick-travel menu between levels. After you 100% each of the games the menu gets stuck and you cannot list through it backwards using the mouse, only forwards (which wouldn't really be a problem, but it DOESN'T LOOP). Also, again, with how many minigames are hidden thoughout Spyro 3's levels you would expect there to be a fast-travel option for those but there isn't one. After this exhaustive list you might think I'm being petty, that would be until you see the (only in Spyro 1) unskippable credits that go on for YEARS. Sure, Internet lists only around 70 actual devs but when you count the credits including people like QA testers and other people that DO have a say in the quality of this "product" you go into the hundreds, and they still ♥♥♥♥♥♥ it up. I've brought up this example many times before but back in 2004 Half-Life 2 was an ALL NEW game with, at the time revolutionary features, built on an in-house engine, with none of these problems and (including voice actors) was made by under 90 people (not even mentioning them being hacked, sued by their own publisher and their code being leaked online).
Controls are really poor making the game unplayable, Spyro constantly getting stuck or just moving on his own....
Probably the buggiest game I have ever played. character model is clipped through floor half of the time. Updated after over 20 hours. Not only have the bugs gotten worse as I play, but I am now softlocked due to some of them from completing the game 100%
w game very fun for my childhood
