4 hours of lame, boring gameplay isn’t something I can recommend spending your money on.

“Open world” is just a hub zone between game levels that has a few minigames and bonus chests. Only for that location you will be given a very unresponsive hoverboard just so you can spend less time in this empty dull place.
Platforming is simple and basic. It is extremely safe and doesn’t try to do anything new, but still manages to feel somewhat clunky. And for whatever reason the game loves to close the gates behind you, so no searching for missed collectibles or exploring locations.
Combat is just bad, as it is a simple action RPG with only one weapon and a few moves you can do. Enemy variety is also rather low, so you just spam the latest move you have unlocked and win without any problems. To be honest combat felt just like it was wasting my time. And boss fights were more of a joke as there is only one boss that you have to beat multiple times and she just waits patiently under dangerous places so you can run around and hit some switches several times. Oh, and you can level up, but it just upgrades your health that is never a problem anyway.
Story and narrator. Well, it is so lame that there is basically no story. They tried to make it better by adding a narrator, the only problem is that he is also bad. And the main reason for it is the fact that they didn’t even make enough voice lines for your actions, for example: there are only TWO voice lines for opening a chest and there are about 30 of those chests in the world, sometimes a few of them are in the same place. After an hour of gameplay I was so sick of hearing about the “surge” that the hero felt that I wanted to recommend him to visit a doctor.
And just a cherry on this cake - the game is buggy. I managed to clip into textures, sequence broke some locations and crashed twice.
Overall: while the devs were “inspired” by some really good games, their inspiration was only enough to create a very basic, bland and boring game. Just don’t waste your time.

Matched by title — a reused name can pair the wrong games. * is a critic aggregate. Prices and positions are each store's United States storefront; Epic charts worldwide. Audience and Score too, except Steam's, which is worldwide.

Not worth the full price nowadays. Game won’t even start without a CPU fix.
This game claims to be inspired by the following trailblazers in the genre: Ratchet and Clank A Hat in Time The Legend of Zelda - Saga Yooka-Laylee Rayman - Saga Spyro Crash Bandicoot All those groundbreaking games had three things in common - Solid Platforming, Solid, fun and unique combat, and great storyworlds. Effie has decent platforming, horribly boring and simplistic combat, and a cookiecutter story (The storytelling format + narrator is a nice touch tho!)
If you like your games with a plain story and bland platforming/combat I would recommend it However this feels too much like a student project imo
Its ok. Its visually striking, and hovering around feels awesome, but besides that, the gameplay is pretty basic.
Effie offers a lot of ideas but lacks clear direction. It brings a hint of nostalgia from other well-defined games but doesn’t fully capitalize on its inspirations. The open world looks appealing and pairs nicely with the fun shield-surfing mechanics. However, the game’s lack of mechanical focus and overly ambitious design hold it back. Effie could still be enjoyable for players who are happy with a simple, light platforming experience.
