Worth it while on sale. Lacks the feel of the originals, but with updated graphics. All the surfaces are coated in a thin layer of slime making you slide around with horrible handling. Poorly placed invisible walls, bugs, "soap" like movement controls, getting stuck in the same place after a quick turn, and a bit dumbed down from the original. Like it was being made FOR Activation executive staff and not actual gamers. Game testers weren't the only thing they skipped on to save money it seems. It's Spyro though, so still fun. Best on sale though sadly. Everything else looks great with a lot of work put into the visuals and VA's. Just sucks that no one play tested it
spyro reignited trilogy is a polished and sparkly reminder of when games actually shipped fully content complete instead of arriving as live service subscription garbo and early access slop that may or may not be developed with updates as initially promised, before the collective gaming consciousness in what is now the current era shifted towards titles like fortnite, warzone, apex legends, PUBG, valorant, etc. a new age... ...where the gaming industry, both gamers and corporate suits alike as a whole, in its complete and full entirety, decided that standing in a shrinking circle where someone builds a makeshift, crusty, creaky, jank, and utterly foul and disgusting and architecturally nonsensical abridged version of the Eiffel Tower that looks like a middle school group's haphazard and shameful attempt at recreating the famous landmark at 1:1 scale in under 7.8 seconds, purely so someone could gain just a very slightly better angle to delete your existence and secure that victory royale, that winner winner chicken dinner, that unnecessarily caked up chun-li player skin, those dopamine injecting badges and popups and level ups that follow after a match, i dont know that one infinity blade accessory in fortnite (idc what anyone says, infinity blade 2 on the iPod was goated, epic games and tim sweeney can go drink a whole cup of cloudy mystery water from an african pond in Far Cry® 2) specifically that served as a disappointing reminder of how mobile games during the early 2010's were on a promising trajectory that seemed as if they were evolving into something genuinely ambitious, almost console-like in scope and design, before the entire ecosystem just several years later pivoted hard into microtransaction mania, contrived energy timers, and games that wore an interface that resembled a storefront UI more than an actual game HUD anyway yeah, the spyro trilogy is a remaster of simple, straightforward 3D platformers that respect your time, and respect the fact that you are employed. It’s a game where a small purple dragon sprints through ancient kingdoms committing what can only be described as highly organized gemstone theft, while acting like he’s on a casual afternoon jog and not actively dismantling the local economy of every realm he visits. spyro moves around collecting gems and goring sheep like hes on several bottles of adderall and a couple cups of black coffee, no creamer no sugar the enemies are strangely, and deeply commited to the idea that somehow their existence might just matter. standing around in stunningly rendered and beautifully remade 3D environments thanks to Unreal Engine 4, existing, breathing, and living with more confidence than i ever had in my 23 years of living, right before a small purple dragon runs up to them out of nowhere, sneezes from allergies, and deletes their existence with shockingly and highly unnerving ease cutscenes are delivered with juxtaposed and jarring sincerity that even the villains themselves seem unsure and question their role in the game repeatedly as to weather or not they should be threatening or intimidating, or to just wait passively and politely as spyro pillages, raids and loots the dragon realms as he is on his way to beat their a**, like a person reciting their lines, reading from a rehearsal script they weren't quite ready for, unsure of how exactly they are supposed to deliver their role in the script, with what cadence to use, what tone to use, what facial expressions to employ. It plays out like a theater production where everyone showed up, the curtain went up, and half the cast is still flipping through the script thinking, “Wait… am I the menace or the exposition?” while delivering lines with the energy of actors trying their best in a dress rehearsal they’ve just been unexpectedly recorded and shipped as the final performance without their knowledge anyway play spyro, enjoy spyro, be happy N̶V̶I̶D̶I̶A̶ OpenSUSE Tumbleweed: The Way It's Meant To Be Played
I played all three games in this Trilogy and I beat all of these games on the original Playstation as a kid. This PC port is messed up, they haven't patched an issue where jump height is tied to your FPS. If you're above 30FPS at all you're going to run into a specific problem in the first game in Alpine Ridge where you cannot progress the level until you drop to 30FPS. It seems they did not test this PC port with the FPS counters because the console versions all run at 30fps as far as I'm aware with the first releases. Other than that, it's Spyro 1-3 in story and mostly gameplay. Didn't enjoy playing the third game as much as I did the first two and I personally do not like the aesthetic of this remaster compared to the originals, the charm is just faded. it feels like there's little separation between backgrounds and foregrounds sometimes and it's jarring for me to see. Some of the remastered character models are nice and others are just wrong. Rating the games themselves in this Trilogy I'd say Spyro 1 is a 7/10. I only rated it like this because of the progression blocker and the jump height problem. Spyro 2 is 6/10, the levels are too spread out and open compared to the first game and the jump height problem became way more apparent because of it. Spyro 3 is 4/10, the game is fun to play when you are playing as Spyro and not doing the numerous amounts of minigames that don't control good or just outright don't work. I did the boxing mini game with Bentley and the jab move literally would not connect to the enemy 90% of the time. There's also so many times you have to backtrack to levels after progressing, which you did not have to do in Spyro 1 or 2. Unless you didn't get all the gems and main collectibles on your first run. And the Trilogy Overall is a 7/10 because of all the issues it just has entirely but also because it's only really worth it for the first two games and if you want to try the third game, then go for it. I will recommend this Trilogy just based on the sole factor of availability, if you can get it on a sale for like ten bucks, I'd say it's worth it for the first two games at least. Otherwise, play the original versions of these games if you can.
Peak nostalgia
Spyro 1 is completely fine, minus a bug in one level that requires you to briefly switch to 30fps. For Spyro 2, everything up to while not including Gulp is also fine. Everything including and after Gulp is just straight up not fun and bad (which is the later third of the game). Spyro 3 is a mixed bag. Most of it is fine, but from what I've read, compared to (all of) the PS1 games, there are random instances of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ difficulty for no reason. Gulp is one of those instances, but apparently so are the skateboard physics and the Twin Dragons in Fireworks Factory. There's too many issues for me to give a positive rating. They should've fixed the random difficulty changes, but given that this came out back in 2019, it probably isn't getting an update any time soon.
