Splittown is our love letter to the golden age of point-and-click games. Between the sardonic humor, an eclectic soundtrack, and wonderfully crooked art, any fans of early 90s PC gaming will feel right at home. However, it's got a few more tricks up its sleeve: With a world and story that reacts to player choices, Splittown offers a familiar yet fresh take on the classic point-and-click.
Splittown embraces the absurdity and whimsy of 90s point-and-clicks, while also drawing from the rich world-building, branching narratives, and player agency of classic CRPGs. Characters you meet aren't there just to be joke dispensers; they have their own motivations, backstories, and arcs. And despite the humor, we've tried to make your actions carry real weight in a world that feels lived-in and authentic.
Every nook and cranny has been crafted with care over nearly a decade, resulting in a game world brimming with life and interactivity. Whether you’re delving into lore, engaging in unexpected side quests, or simply experimenting with the environment, you’ll find that the world reacts to your actions in surprising ways. It’s a dense and layered world, packed with achievements, collectibles, easter eggs and hidden gags.
We've set out to create a narrative filled with genuine moments of suspense, sadness, triumph, and everything in between. The world of Splittown might be absurd on the surface, but for the characters living in it, their struggles and victories are just as real.

Awesome old-school point and click adventure. Brings me back to Sam & Max and Day of the Tentacle and others. Bonus points for being able to pet the dog!
You play Leonard Nimby, a former top agent of the IM5. There are 4 actions to use- move, look at, mess with, and talk to. Some objects in the room can be picked up or mixed with other objects, which is a common feature in adventure games.
Pros:
- There is a map and fast travel to quickly move to each location on the map. - Catchy music themes and music tracks can be played on their website. - Its interesting to discover Nimby's reaction when talking or interacting with random objects.
Cons:
- Game is relatively short at 3-5 hours playtime. - I found 3 glitches when playing that prevented me from moving forward. I had to lose some progress and restart from chapter select screen. After talking with Discord developers, its clear that the team did not do enough bug testing for a cohesive game experience.
Suggestions:
- Add hints to various parts of the game. At times, the player needs to guess what to do next or interact with objects in the room. -
The developer posted a Steam guide with minimum spoilers, but some players will not think to check it for tips. Also, they can add a message to players to check the Steam guide section if they need help.
- Add multiple save slots for the game. If the game glitches, at least the player can load game from a point of the game without restarting from chapter select. A 90's inspired adventure game marred with bugs. After asking for help on Discord several times, I lost all interest to play the game. The Early Access section indicates that there are bugs, however I did not sign up to be a bug tester. The game is priced as a complete game, but its full of bugs.
Follow IndieGems for more reviews like this one.
Really good. I expected poor puzzles and bugs because of some of the Art and the music loops. But noooo! Well balanced puzzles and neat little mini-games and eggs. 2ish infuriating clues I had to google, which is about normal for a point and click. Plot and humour I liked, more what actually happens in the game than the dialogue. Recommend
🔸 EXPECTATIONS: a classic point and click adventure. 🔸 REALITY: a very 90s classic point and click adventure. 🔷 Splittown is a 'point and click' adventure game inspired by iconic 90s games in the genre (Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max, Toonstruck...). It shows everywhere: visual style, gameplay, animations, music... and for many, there's no need to say more, but for the wondering rest... 🔹 Splittown's point of distinction lies in the world building and character's lore: one can follow the game's objectives and miss most of what the game presents. It's full of elements the MC will comment on, and characters whose conversations don't lead to a clue for a puzzle. 🔹 It makes the characters more believable and alive, and look less like 'actors with a purpose'. It makes the player care and want to know more about them, the world, its inhabitants and their relations. These 'extras', are often tied to achievements and slight variations on certain events. 🔹 Sadly, the contrary applies to the story and character's development. All the care in giving everyone a backstory, results in a story that, by the end, resolves none of the major plots presented. As a result, it feels more like a 1st chapter (ongoing), rather than a conclusive entry (arc). 🔹 The UI has been adapted to more modern sensibilities, but still is tight to 4 basic actions: go, look, use and talk. There's actually no need for more, e.g.: use>door = open (duh!). For some reason, the game keeps almost ALL objects in the inventory, even the ones that are no longer useful. 🔹 The clues system has two layers. First the in-world, where MC and other people will give hints in comments and conversations. If that's not enough, there's a phone (on the shoe's sole) with which one can call a number for more straight forward nudges and suggestions. 🔹 Splittown is divided into 8 chapters that are quite short if attending just the main objectives, so I recommend exploring and touching everything to get the best out of it. There's also fast travel, that comes very in handy in the later stages. A normal 1st playthrough can take 8-10h to complete. 💠 Splittown is a game with a lot to give, but it requires the player to care about it, too. Unfortunately, closure is not one of the things it delivers. Very rooted in 90s nostalgia, it's a game best recommended for those who'd like to remember 'good old times' with a new experience. POSITIVES: 🙂+ 😄+ world building 😍+ NEGATIVES: 🙁- story/characters development 😠- 😡-
For more puzzle game reviews, news and everything puzzle-related, follow Puzzle Lovers and check out our Steam group.
This point and click has a very LucasArts vibe visually and in the puzzles along with quality of life mechanics (fast travel) to make it more enjoyable. As an early access game, I expected some bugs and the dev team has been really responsive to fix them. Kudos for the Linux build ! The story took me around 4 hours, some puzzle are hard but not impossible. There is some depth to it, it's not just "fun & laugh", and I was pleasantly surprised. Looking forward the official release!
Full preview here: https://somhrac.sk/2025/01/26/vyzkouseli-jsme-si-zajimavou-adventuru-splittown-preview/
Early Access state already a rare treat. SplitTown is like a love letter to the likes of Sam & Max / Maniac Mansion II: Day of the Tentacle. Peculiar characters, witty humor, and a world divided in once again not-so-warm war where the truth was the first casualty. A characteristic for all of 'em innit. Retro graphics like warm hugs from the past. Right away familiar UI and interaction. Great on Steam Deck!
Hot damn, this is a fun game! I really enjoy the writing and witty humor it offers. I can't wait to solve more mysteries.
I’ve literally laughed out loud five times now while playing this, and that almost never happens to me, so I had to stop just to come here and drop a review. This game is a masterpiece, right up there with the LucasArts classics it’s clearly inspired by (Day of the Tentacle and Sam & Max Hit the Road). I haven’t even finished it yet, but I can already tell everything is spot on: the puzzles are clever, the art style is stunning, and the coding is top-notch. You can tell a lot of love went into the details. The characters are hilarious, the dialogue is gold, and the game definitely isn’t short. Again, the humor is just sensational—both in the writing and the situations (like that "unique" coffee machine or swimming through the canals under the washing machine). Also, shoutout to the map; it’s beautiful and super well-designed. If I really have to nitpick, there are a couple of tiny things: the character sprites get a bit pixelated/blurry when they’re very close, the slang can be a bit much sometimes, and the music gets slightly repetitive. Also, the UI and inventory are a bit clunky to navigate. But honestly? This is a fantastic game and easily one of the best adventures I've played in years. Highly recommended.
A really fun point-and-click game with surprisingly lot to do and to mess with. I’ve also really enjoyed the witty dialogue and Nimby’s comments. Nice storytelling!
