Very chill, atmospheric and relaxing. Felt quite moved at times with the unveiling of the plot. Very zen and nice.
Recomiendo
ahahhaha this game is super i love playing it and the just has so much lore and i loveee lore so i would say if you like foxs or lore or even spirits get this game!
Nice atomsphere and good for casual relaxing gameplay.
I’ve played up to Chapter 3, and I can’t say I’m willing to continue. The gameplay is a drag. You mostly just walk around with no indication of where to go, no clear goals, and no explanation of who you are or why you’re doing any of this. The game is essentially a clunky platformer with elementary puzzle elements. For a while, it seems as though you’re going to acquire magical abilities that might spice up the gameplay, but no. Your spiritual powers amount to barking at magical flowers and wagging your tail to activate runestones. It’s really tedious. Most of the introduction consists of slowly moving through corridors, and nothing I encountered suggested that the gameplay would become more interesting later. It feels more like a technical demo for a game from 2005 than an actual game.
The Spirit of the North is a simple and casual game if you want to recharge your batteries. If you're not considering yourself as a sophisticated [strike]bone-deep elitist[/strike] gamer - you're gonna like this one. Enjoy playing as a barking, tail-wagging, uncontrollable fox. The visuals and the music are great. The world is atmospheric but lacking content, you can choose between several activities till the very end of the game. There are also glitches in the game. While doing some fox parkour stuff you can easily stuck in textures in a state of eternal falling
(an exploit for getting "Fox? Or flying Squirrel" achievement)
. Also don't try to drop Shaman Staff near Shaman Spirit that was already awaken, you won't be able to pick it up again.
I don't know if the authors intended it that way but there's a possibility to skip half of a Chapter 4 and jump to the Chapter 5 while doing fox parkour stuff on a castle walls.
The biggest downside is the inability to save your progress whenever you want, the game does auto-saves only when you finish a chapter (part?) or certain event's triggered. From the other hand the game gives you an opportunity of choosing certain part of a chapter to start all over again, if you want to collect all the achievements. The Kindred Spirit achievement is completely redundant, you basically do the same stuff you were doing the whole game but in one location
28 more times
. To sum up everything mentioned above, The Spirit of the North has it's pros and cons, it's not for everyone, but it's definitely worth checking out.
