About
In the most distant reaches of the world, magic still exists, embodied by spirits of the land, of the sky, and of every natural thing. As the great powers of Europe stretch their colonial empires further and further, they will inevitably lay claim to a place where spirits still hold power - and when they do, the land itself will fight back alongside the islanders who live there.

Spirit Island is a cooperative settler-destruction strategy game designed by R. Eric Reuss and set in an alternate-history world around A.D. 1700. Players become different Spirits of the land, each with their own unique elemental powers, forced to defend their island home from colonizing Invaders spreading blight and destruction. Your Spirits work with the native Dahan to increase your power and drive the invading colonists from your island in this strategic area-control game.
In Spirit Island, players choose between 1-4 Spirits to control. The number of Spirits determines the size of the island:

8 different Spirits, each with 4 Power cards unique to that Spirit
36 Minor Power cards that enhance the abilities of your Spirits
22 Major Power cards with more powerful effects to devastate the Invaders
A modular island, made up of 4 balanced island boards, for a variety of layouts
Thematic island boards that reflect the canonical island and provide a new challenge
3 multi-tier Adversaries (specific Invaders) for play variety and fine-tuned challenge: Brandenburg-Prussia, England, and Sweden
4 optional Scenarios for even more play variety
15 Invader cards driving a distinctive Invader expansion system
2 Blight cards with challenging effects as the Invaders blight the Island
15 Fear cards with beneficial effects, earned as you terrify the Invaders
Every rule & interaction in the game has been carefully adapted and thoroughly tested by expert Spirit Island players, as well as the designer himself. If you’re wondering how a certain situation works in Spirit Island, this game is the ultimate rules lawyer!
Original dynamic music composed by Jean-Marc Giffin brings Spirit Island to life. Each Spirit has unique musical elements that wax and wane as the game progresses.
3D Textured maps bring a realistic look and isometric perspective to the Island.
3D Classic maps present the Island the way it looks on the tabletop.

extremely well designed game with a high skill ceiling and endless possibilities
The IRL version will always be more fun ofcause... but the interface of this game is so infuriating! every special rule or action that has to be chosen is SO confusing when it is not stated on the screen what is actually happening! I spend WAY too long trying to figure out what the hell im being asked to choose, when the game wants me to push a beast token that BARELY lights up while the rest of the game becomes unclickable and there is NO TOOLTIP helping me! I have 100 hours in the IRL version, so I have a good grasp on the game mechanics, but the interface is one of the worst ive ever experienced.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

It is strange to say, but my favorite game ever made might just be a board game. I have played everything under the sun and the only game that has retained my attention for so long has been spirit island. I have played the physical edition and digital edition on my phone and computer for at least 100 hours at this point and I truly do not see an end in sight. I have put this game down several times but always end up back to this damn island. What makes this game so special? It is a puzzle where you are one of many many spirits with their own special powers defending from colonists trying to wife out the indigenous population. I find the theme captivating for being so different from normal games or board games in general. It is not about exploitation, but preservation of nature. Spirit island is perfectly scalable adding more island boards and players with other spirits. It has many scaling difficulty modifiers with adversaries changing how the invader behave such that there is no way this game can get boring. England can build great cities with impunity. Prussia grabs land like no other. Scotland has port cities. I judged this game hard for its visuals before I ever played it, but now I mull of strategies with my favorite spirits on my free time and progressively get better. At first, level 0 difficulty was hard, but now level 0 feels impossible to lose unless I am playing a difficult new spirit. Just do not buy this game full price, there are plenty of sales.
My favorite board game. It's better to play the board game in person, but digitally you get to play with friends online, and you can't make any silly rules mistakes. It's great.
This is a complex board game, I actually got the digital version to learn to play it better because learning all the spirirts can be a convoluted process. If you enjoy complexity and a game that is hard this game is for you.
Takes all the fiddly, mechanically complicated management portions of the board game and automates them to create a streamlined experience. If you enjoy the original, everything you love is here, and the mindful addition of things like an undo feature keeps the spirit of board gaming pretty well.
i like the spirits on the island
Digital version of the game is nigh unplayable for the difficulty of it.
Spirit Island is my favorite board game, and having access to an online version is clutch because I don't always feel like spending the time to get all the pieces out and put them back together. Also, it knows the rules better than I do, so it cuts some of that time consuming rule searching out. I've been enjoying increasing the difficulty too, which can be a little overwhelming to keep up with whilst playing the board game version. Overall, been loving it! Bought several DLCs too!
