Spell Disk is, essentially, the spiritual successor to Wizard of Legend. You are flung into a world with somewhere between fifty and a hundred spells that, while having some overlap and similarity, all generally "feel" somewhat unique despite not really being all that different in practice. Choice and randomness are the name of the game where the notion of "theorycrafting" the perfect setup is nonexistent. While other reviews rather predictably whinge about "RNG", the core challenge of the game is to adapt the tools you're given in each run into a viable build. There is randomness, yes, but you are provided with sufficient resources to -- with a bit of cleverness on the player's part -- draft a build that can complete the game. Like Wizard of Legend, there are certain skills that are just flat out better than others, though it takes playing to figure out which. While Wizard of Legend irked me due to its somewhat clunky engine and difficulty curve based entirely off of "git gud", it did have a level of mechanical depth that felt like it rewarded good execution and clean play. Spell Disk, for all its improvements on the things Wizard of Legend lacked, does not really have this same feel. While the game punishes excessive mistakes, it is far more forgiving on things like taking extraneous hits somewhat out of necessity. Visual clarity in the game largely nonsensical and, at times, downright garbage -- a homage to its Vampire Survivors inspiration -- which forces the gameplay loop down certain necessary paths. In many ways execution is only minimally important in that the best way to avoid the visual vomit is to simply create a build which doesn't care about it....which can be easier said than done until you figure out the reasonably reliable paths to get there. There is one skill, in particular, that seems to be flat out "the best" -- and coincidentally its proper use means erasing the visibility of half your screen. At this point, having 100%'d the game, I can say that I have enjoyed my time playing it but won't be coming back. Similar to Wizard of Legend, for all the million-possible-build options that appear on the surface, the actual underlying depth to the game is relatively shallow. It's enjoyable to problem solve and figure out, but once you do so the actual gameplay does not have too much to offer. Grinding out the achievements once you have the game solved places completion right at the point of "I'm ready to be done with this and move on." A recommended title, certainly, but with the caveat that it's a decidedly average game which will not be winning any rewards. Picking it up on sale for $10 is worth it if you're a genre fan, just know you'll play-and-forget.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

This is clearly a very, very small team's passion project and that passion really shows. You could argue it's a bit derivative, but I think it's less that it's not creative and more that the games it lends from were clearly loved. There's a lot of creative mechanics at play that, when you hit a groove, really do make you feel like you're "cheating" despite how difficult any given run can be. The difficulty is a bit much but I've never found it especially frustrating. I don't know if this is a game for everyone, but at the same time if you see it and you think you might enjoy it, I think you will. It's rough around the edges, but in an era where everything has an artificial, creatively bankrupt plastic sheen to it, the very obviously hand-drawn art reminds you at every turn that this was a game clearly made with love, and that really does carry it over any hurdles it may have stumbled on. It's just a good game.
Every run is like trying to get ward loop or cast on crit to work like in path of exile. Better combat than binding of isaac. Synergies can get wild. No exploration which may be a plus or minus for you. This is an incredible game.
If you come to this game expecting spell build mechanic like Noita or Magicraft. This isn't anywhere near it. In those game your spell set off another spells off of it. In this game your spells fired separately from 'you' when their respective slot gain enough mana. So instead of you dropping a bullet that expanded into a nuke. This game have you firing 5 machine guns instead. This lead to a vampire survivor-like gameplay instead.
I really enjoyed this game for what it was. i loved all the combo making. once i beat it was happy with it and crossed it off my list.
Spell Disk is one of my favorite rogue-lites. The sheer plethora of builds and combo variety is incredible. Every run truly feels unique. I really appreciate how all the outfits have bonuses and debuffs that make each choice feel like an interesting tradeoff. I played this game for many hours on Xbox and I decided to get it on Steam as well. So good its worth buying twice! GG!
