Speedy 500

Imagine this - it's the arcade classic Daytona USA. But replace NASCAR with IndyCars. Pretty awesome right? (from a die-hard and obsessed fan of IndyCar) - now make it the glorious, golden era of IndyCars (early to mid 90's) and you've got Speedy 500! It's a straight-up arcade game and it's a magnificent one too, even amazing when you find out that it's all been done by a solo developer! (Bonus - a re-creation of the long-since closed Nazareth Speedway appears in the game). Hats off to the developer!

I've been waiting decades for someone to recreate the Indy 500 game. Obviously, this is much better with the re-coding. I've only played a few laps but I love it. Much better than the original with a lot more content. Great job, Developer. Thanks.

A really interesting game inspired by 1990s arcade games, with very enjoyable gameplay and some challenging moments. The selection of track is also interesting with Indianapolis, Nazareth, Lexington, Hockenheim... It's great to have so much chassis as well, just missed some Reynard

Plutôt sympa! La sensation de vitesse est bien rendue, et les circuits sont sympa (surtout celui avec un tunnel aquatique) , j'ai eu quelques bugs au début mais ils ont vite été corrigés par le studio

Speedy 500 is basically Indycar of Formula One, it is competitive, Fast, brilliant, enjoyment it is so good that it does have career mode, chamionship amd time trial attack basically free practices mode, i give it 10/10 of my recommedation with respect.

I really enjoyed this game, well, I still am. A lot of games try to emulate the classic '90's SEGA aesthetic and game play, but I honestly feel like this one captures it the best. I was genuinely surprised. I've played the developers homage to Virtua Racing, and whilst it is good, it didn't quite click with me. The tracks and handling/braking don't feel right at this point in time, I'm sure it will get updated though. However, despite this game being in early access it feels like it's ninety percent there already. I think all it really needs now is a little polish in the presentation, minor details. I'd love to hear the classic 'chime' when selecting gearbox type. It could use an intro and an overhaul or spruce up of the menu's, but everything is clear, functional and most importantly the game is really fun. cars handle well, controls are responsive, great engine tone. The music could use a shot of adrenalin, it needs to be higher energy, less slow grunge. Brighter. You could also add that comment to the track graphics. It all looks really good just lacks a little detail, crowds, crowd noise as you pass certain turns, exhaust pop and sparks upon deceleration. Again, I'm sure these things will come in time. As this game stands I think it's absolutely worth the money and deserved of your time, assuming you like fast, fun, arcade racers.

This DDI game is complete which is good news, there are a number of retro styled racing games in either Early Access or being made in the future by DDI, the developer has more ideas than time which is the problem, this game has future ideas too. Speedy 500 is basically like Daytona USA but with IndyCar like cars, more tracks and more car options, you will need a controller/steering wheel for this game but it was fun to drive. Watch out for the field, they can be zany making wild moves that can stray into your path. Your choice of car may impact how you go, I chose the Sydney Storm #33 and dominated at Rockingham but was glacier slow at Speedy Motor Speedway, my top speed in the #33 at SMS was 397kph in the draft while the Shiroi-Tora Engineering #28 car went at 447kph. The #28 was five seconds faster than second place which was a Sydney Storm car. The toughest oval track is Nazerth, you definitely need to use the brakes there and you will likely just scraping by to finish the race, I made it with 2 seconds to spare. Road courses are a major challenge, it seems to trip up the field as well in parts, you may have to slow right down and then step on it getting through the corners that come after a long straight and watch out for the chicanes. There is a wide range of cars but not all are available to you easily, you need a good supply of credits in the game and experience levels, one car needs Level 16 to get the Penske like car. Personally, I like this game though DDI's track record of having incomplete racing games may make you hesitate to purchase this one.

very fun game on both controller and keyboard. it really encapsulates what id imagine (if SEGA's Indy 500 didn't exist) to be the INDYCAR version of Daytona USA. the game is very simple and fun to play with the unlockable cars giving me (atleast) a reason to keep racing it. thouughhhh... the ai are really slow. sure it is an arcade racer but id like some sort of difficulty feature to make the ai much harder as it's really just too easy, especially on the ovals, to just blitz by them. it honestly hurts the replayability for me (atleast) because im able to absolutely curbstomp the poor, poor, ai drivers with no real challenge, winning sometimes 2 laps ahead. other than that, its a very good game and its great to kill time with.
