Not there, yet.
Huge fan of the original Sega Rally here, but DDI feels more like a tech demo and way too early to release, even for early access. Lacking in all aspects and not remotely as polished as the original. Not worth the money in its current state. (Also, the trailer looks a lot better than the actual game.)
This is the closest anyone outside of Sega has come to recreating *both* the look and feel of Mizuguchi's arcade rally juggernaut. If you enjoy Sega Rally and Sega Rally 2, don't pass this one up.
I really want to like this game, but like the other game by this developer Super Retro GP the handling model is awful. I even tried turning the steering sensitivity down and the car is still way too twitchy, feels like like I'm guiding a piece of paper instead of driving a heavy rally car. The game looks phenomenal but handles so poorly it's sad to see and the other game mentioned is about the same too.
This is as close to "Sega Rally on steam" as were probably going to get. There are 5 vehicles which each have 1 alternate livery, and 5 courses that also are available in mirrored options. Though the game is early access, even if the dev abandoned this project, it would still be the best Sega Rally style game on Steam. Great sounds, energetic music and lively colors make this a fun game to come back to and try to master each course, the speedruns for this game already look insanely cool. If you've been itching to try Sega Rally or a game like it I'd def give this one a go
the handling is so far removed from Sega Rally...Its just using some default physics from the engine it was made in. Just get Car Park Rally (or whatever its called) instead....that has carefully crafted handling. This feels like a re-tuned asset store driving pack or something.
Love the look - but car just revs but doesn’t move forward … have played with controller settings but cannot get the car to move. Tried both steam deck controls and a PS5 controller - disappointed.
I really want to like it a lot, but I don't think it's worth the asking price right now, my main complaint is I really don't like the car collision physics at all, and the constant road side obstacles are a pain to avoid especially when the cars move so fast and the roads are so narrow. Though I'll likely change my tone in the future when the game is fully completed.
Plays like Daytona USA 2, graphics are exactly what you would expect from SEGA AM3, music is too and the difficulty curve very SEGA-like.
The idea of this game seemed great - I loved the Sega rally games back in the day on the Sega Saturn and it seemed like a homage to them and some QoL features, sadly it didn't turn out to be this way. The game is in early access, so I expected it to not be perfect and some things to iron out over time but it's a bit early for Early Access really, which is a shame. I found that the FPS can tank and that the controls are delayed, which became frustrating - after 30 minutes, I wanted to exit the game and not play further. The FPS/graphics side would be acceptable in Early Access, but the controls is not sorted yet which needs to be top priority. Hopefully in a years time the issues will be ironed out and this will be a good game to play, fingers crossed! EDIT for the Dev: Thanks for getting back to me, when running the game, I was running it on a 4070ti Super with a Ryzen 5 7600 CPU (APU disabled) and 32GB ram, it's not going to be a resource issue for sure. I do have a laptop with a 4060 aswell, but it was not tested on there. The bigger factor really was the controls, using an Xbox controller (with the 2.4gz receiver, not bluetooth) it had delays for controlling the car which made it not fun to play - the controller works in other games all okay.
