Space Quest™ Collection

Absolutely recommended if you have never played them (or if you have). SQ1VGA and SQ5 were a huge part of my childhood and they hold up today. However, this collection is not without flaws, it is trying to emulate really old games after all, and these are problems you will find on all versions of the games. You will probably need the NeRisingSun patches to fix some errors and timing issues, though it may be hard to find (check the community discussions, particularly the thread I started). And for those complaining SQ1VGA is not here, that is incorrect. You just have to do a little file editing to get it to show up on the launcher. Everything will work perfectly fine with the above fixes, so if you don't mind doing a little work after installing then absolutely buy this.

This collection of 6 game is a nostalgic blast of classic Sierra adventure games, following the unlikely heroics of intergalactic janitor Roger Wilco. From killer robots to time-traveling sequels, each game delivers sharp humor, quirky puzzles, and wonderfully absurd sci-fi settings. While the early text-parser interface and occasional bugs can be frustrating, they’re part of the retro charm for fans of the era. The writing is consistently witty, filled with genre parodies and hilarious deaths that make trial-and-error oddly rewarding. It’s a barebones package with no extras, but the games themselves still hold up as cult comedy classics. Scifi adventure game. You are a janitor aboard the Arcada, which is delivering a valuable planet-igniting device to a system that needs a new star. Unfortunately, the ship has been boarded by hostiles and you, the apparent lone survivor, must save the day. And then do it five more times. Space Quest Collection is a series of six games: Space Quest 1 through Space Quest 6. Each one has a relatively self-contained story; you don't have to complete, play or even know about the others to play any given one. Spread across ten years, the collection represents advances in storytelling and production quality. Space Quest 1 is low-tech, with 7-bit music and graphics to match. By the time you get to Space Quest 6, you're at fairly detailed graphics, smooth motion and voice acting. The leap is tremendous, but that doesn't mean there isn't worthwhile content in SQ1. The games have the quirky humor Sierra is (was?) famous for, and it's always satisfying to work through the puzzles, obstacles and challenges to complete one. Be advised that these are DosBox games, which means they were produced before Microsoft Windows was even a thing. But I didn't run into any performance or glitch issues with them on either of two grades of machine, so they should be safe for any machine one can find today to run them on. My nostalgia may be waxing here. SQ1 was hot stuff when it came out in 1986; the average gamer born after that might not see the appeal. But I got the collection through Humble Bundle, which, considering how many hours of story-driven game the whole collection represents, made it a helluva value.

The Space Quest 1 VGA version IS included in this anthology. After hitting Play, you'll need to select the Legacy version. You can play the EGA (older) version by selecting the first option. These games are classics SCI-FI Comedy. If you liked Galaxy Quest, these are the same genre.

Space quest 1 does not give you the right droid to continue. Space quest 5 does not sent WD40 into the cave so you can kill her. This also does not let you continue.

This collection is complete trash. Every game crashes constantly and I've spent all my playtime in these Sierra Classic collections just trying to get them running. I purchased the Police Quest Collection, The Space Quest Collection, and Leisure Suit Larry 1,2,3, and 5 in a sale and didn't get around to trying them for around 2 months. They all have the same issues and are unplayable. STEAM has denied my refund request because I purchased them too long ago... 8 min play time, denied, 20 minutes playtime, denied, 0.1 hours on record... denied. This is terrible customer service and makes me extremely unlikely to EVER purchase any classic game collections on STEAM again. I have much better and easier options for playing every game in them. Don't waste your time and money on any of the classic Sierra games here on STEAM. Not even worth the SALE prices.

The Space Quest Collection isn’t just a bundle of old games. It’s a glimpse into a time when adventure games could be clever, weird, frustrating, and deeply funny, all at once. I didn’t grow up thinking I’d ever root for a space janitor, but somehow Roger Wilco became one of those unlikely heroes I’ll never forget. These games have a way of getting under your skin. Not because of cutting-edge graphics or gameplay innovation, but because they somehow make failure hilarious and success feel like surviving a Rube Goldberg death trap designed by a drunk comedian. You die a lot. Often in the dumbest ways possible. But every time, you reload, laugh a little, and try again. What stands out to me most is how self-aware the writing is. It constantly pokes fun at sci-fi tropes, gaming conventions, and especially at Roger himself. He isn’t brave, smart, or particularly skilled. He’s just there, trying to mop up his life one mess at a time, and somehow saving the galaxy in the process. There’s something oddly relatable about that. Sometimes life hands you a plunger instead of a sword, and you do what you can. The tone shifts from game to game. Some lean hard into slapstick, others have surprisingly dark undertones. But the heart of the series stays intact. The narrator’s sarcastic commentary adds an extra layer that feels like having a snarky friend beside you the whole time. It's not just gameplay. It's an experience that knows how absurd it is and leans into that with both boots. Revisiting this collection feels like rummaging through a dusty old VHS shelf and finding something that still holds up. Not because it’s perfect, but because it’s sincere. It’s flawed, goofy, occasionally clunky, and exactly what makes it special. I guess what I love most is that Space Quest doesn’t take itself seriously. And in a world that often takes everything far too seriously, that’s worth a lot. Roger Wilco may not be the hero we asked for. But he’s the janitor we deserve.

The absolute pinnacle of classic point and click along with King's Quest these games put SIERRA ON-LINE ON the map back in the day! I would say it only gets better with 3 being the watermark, wasn't as big of a fan of 4 as the puzzles and story felt kinda lacking but 5, oh man 5 goes super hard lol, back when you could miss things and never know you needed them and it was way to easy to die, trial and error baby! But anyway search everything and try different wording and hey you got it easy, playing back in the day it was more expensive than PHONESEX LINES to call the tip hotline LMBO!!!!!l lol lol anything can just be googled nowadays!
