Great TBS (Turn Based Strategy) game. Very similar style to Heroes of Might and Magic II, III and V. Also somewhat similar to AoW (Age of Wonders) 2/SM, AoW 4, or the Disciples series. If you are unfamiliar with these type of games: They are basically part classic 2D RPG (lots of map exploration, obtaining treasure, and combats), part resource gathering, and part city/base building. The single player story scenarios ("Campaigns and Tales") tell some interesting stories, and at the end of each mission, a Bard sings about what happened during the scenario, and what happened after it. Nice touch! For battles, most of the time I do "Quick" or "Auto Combat". The (manual) fights are kind of fun, but it gets old after a few battles, and it gets very time-consuming (I'm much more into the story, map-exploration, and building up armies/cities, than the manual combat). Also, the quick combat often seems to do A LOT better than I do with manual. Multi-player works well. However, the AI tends to leave its cities almost totally unguarded, and put all its units into the army of one or two Wielders (Heroes). So if you can defeat those one or two Wielders, the game is pretty much over... All the AI cities and remaining Wielders are a piece of cake. The same is true for single player vs one or multiple AIs (on random or on pre-made maps). I would highly recommend Songs of Conquest if you are/were a fan of Heroes of Might and Magic 1-5.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

It is hard to recommend this game. It's a decent game with some beautiful art and lovely music and sound design. The creators also had several good ideas to make it an unique entry into the strategy genre and not just a HoMM clone. BUT! In their wisdom and enthusiasm for balance they forgot to make any of the factions cool. All of them (6 so far with DLCs) feel bland and uninspired. The unit rosters are so safe in their design that I feel like it almost doesn't matter what I pick. The Essence system is a nice idea, but the spells themselves are boring to tears. The UI is insultingly minimalistic, there is no flair, no decoration, nothing that pleases the eye. There is also nothing to "look forward to" in your progression. You want cool high-tier unit? You get a limping dragon, magic fursona or a howitzer. Only the Barony of Loth (necromancers) get a cool mass of bones - but the catch is that you can't do much necromancy except for raising around 3 corpses (worst unit ingame) per 100 killed humanoids. Gee thanks. The new mushroom faction is better for necromancy, but then you have to play a faction where every unit looks the same. The heroes are mostly unappealing - I don't mean that I need to see sexy bodies in leather underwear, but damn, give me some charisma or style. The writing in campaigns is extremely basic and not worth the purchase for singleplayer purposes.
So... As i thought they gone to dlc route. Nah, i am done. Base game was shallow and barebones, its has low item system and magic on basic lvl. Why you try to make new faction, if u didnt improve core gameplay...
Bought the game before launch. 21hours and I'm out. 4 factions with only 4 maps in each campaign. Campaign is just a big tutorial, 3 boring missions with limited recruit options, small tunnel maps. Only the fourth mission allowed you to really play the faction and after that there is no additional missions with all units available : you get to finally fully enjoy the game and get slapped in the face right after. Icing on the cake : 2 factions locked behind paywall... 10 euros EACH !!! Disgusting. Last time i buy a Lavapotion game, what a ripoff.
Game is excellent, homage to HoMM and a unique interesting magic system. Learning the different factions and units is simple enough and it also has a fair amount of depth. You take command of a "Wielder", a magic user who imparts his strength to his troops and there is a pool selection of skills upon every level up I enjoyed my time so far and can highly recommend, the pixel art is gorgeous also, and the story campaigns are interesting

TL;DR: If you want an in-the-moment sandbox strategy/tactical experience, this is not for you. If you enjoy restarting a campaign for the fifth time after discovering all the curveballs the developers scripted into it, then writing down the “correct” order of events to cheese your way through, this might be for you. I rarely refund games, maybe once every hundred purchases or so, but this one is simply not for me. I was lured in by the recent “Very Positive” rating, but after playing it, “Mostly Positive” feels much more accurate. Reading through the reviews, you quickly notice that many of the positive ones would probably be neutral if Steam actually allowed that option. I cannot fathom why developers still build games around outdated design patterns like puzzle-like, step-by-step sudoku scenarios. This is the strategy-game equivalent of old shooters spawning enemies behind you to create cheap “gotcha” moments. The difficulty does not come from deep strategy or tactical mastery. It comes from memorizing scripted event patterns, avoiding triggers, and cheesing the hell out of the scenario. I also do not understand why so many Heroes of Might and Magic fans compare this game to HoMM. I am a HoMM fan myself, and this is not HoMM. It is not Disciples, not Etherlords, not King’s Bounty, and not anything meaningfully similar beyond surface-level presentation. This is not really a strategy game. It barely even works as a tactical game. Games like HoMM, especially HoMM III and IV, lean heavily into the fantasy of: “Here is the scenario, go wild, explore, abuse the systems, and become unstoppable.” You side quest, collect resources, clear neutral stacks, cheese tactical battles to preserve units, and snowball while the main objective patiently waits for you. That is the spirit of HoMM. Songs of Conquest actively works against that spirit. The campaign is too authored, too scripted, and too trigger-based. Instead of letting you develop a strategy organically, it pushes you into discovering the intended order of operations. If your campaign runs on rails and the main challenge is finding out which events to trigger in which order, that is not strategy. That is a puzzle game. The fact that there are step-by-step guides for higher difficulties says a lot. Why build a magic system, a combat system, itemization, buildings, resources, recruitment, faction mechanics, and all these strategic layers if the campaign design then reduces everything to a sudoku? And I have not even gone into the terrible UX, the terrible UI, the terrible design decisions, and the barebones, boring story. And yes, UX, UI, design, and art are different things.
I think the game has potential, but my experience so far has been frustrating. In the campaign, as early as map #3, enemies attack from all sides, forcing the player to memorize attack patterns rather than react strategically. After inevitably failing and restarting the map, which is not enjoyable in itself, you still tend to get overwhelmed, as the enemy suddenly appears with a higher tier of units. At that point, success seems to depend on memorizing the exact build order, executing hero actions step by step, and following a rigid sequence of actions. This leaves little room for experimentation or improvisation, which raises the question: how is this supposed to be fun?
