Strange, confusing, creative, inventive, unique, spooky... ...And I loved every minute of it. https://youtu.be/AjOAHb7JlDk?si=FQDoy6d-E_qy4mxZ
Somnifuge is a very unique, gritty, PSX inspired horror game. It’s not really survival horror, more of a psychological horror game with lots of puzzles, but it does have a survival horror “vibe”. I was very excited for it, having played the demo only a week prior. It immediately reminded me of The Tartarus Key, another game that feels like survival horror despite being only puzzles. And to an extent that’s what I got, though I would say it’s a little more rough around the edges and WAY more “out there”. The puzzles are good but sorta a mixed bag, generally challenging and fun but some feel a bit clunky. There’s no map, so sometimes navigating the mansion and the other ever changing environments was disorienting (and a little tedious). Often it’s intentional - the game definitely loves to disorient you and catch you off guard. But I think more often than not it was well designed, and definitely interesting. The game had a very dream-like surreal logic to it. It kinda just went wherever it felt like. No clue what anything meant or what the context is, but it was certainly entertaining. If I had my way, I would’ve loved a bit more focus on puzzles (sometimes it felt a bit walking sim-esque), some polish and refinement, and a map. But it’s a unique game and anyone that likes dream-like psychological horror puzzle games DRIPPING in 90’s survival horror aesthetic - don’t miss this one.

It has more than enough maps and events for the price. The puzzle-action is well executed, and I enjoyed the crunchy puzzles and tense exploration action. If you are looking for an exploratory walking sim with a horror flavor, I recommend this one. The game's atmosphere is retro and dark, with a distinctly creepy, gruesome feel. The jumpscares and bloody gore are subdued, and the game is wonderfully well-directed with the point in mind. On the other hand, there are some non-sequential aspects of the game's progression that require attention. Both the story and the puzzles are filled with intentional misleading and insinuations, and you may wander for a long time teased by them. My personal complaint is that the auto-save interval seems long. It was a bit frustrating to be killed by an enemy in the middle of a step-by-step puzzle and be sent back to the beginning. PS: 02/20/2025 If you really want to enjoy this game, I recommend you to aim for trophy ”
SOMNIFUGE
”. It's not a difficult path
if you pay attention to lost and choose the right words.
SOMNIFUGE
Challenging puzzles, worth the price. I think the game has multiple endings, not yet figured it out how to get all of them.
Fun and clever puzzles, great spooky mansion atmosphere. I got so incredibly lost in the house, my playtime would probably a lot less if I wasn't constantly wandering from room to identical corridor trying to find a particular location. But I very much enjoyed it despite this. I didn't realise until I was near the end that there are hints available from the pause menu. I was often navigating back to the TV screen as occasionally a word would display that served as a cryptic but subtly helpful clue. A couple of fun jump scares, very creative game. Recommend!
Just finished live streaming this! 6 and a half hours! I had a lot of fun! My audience loved it too. I found it creepy, trippy , and some tough moments & puzzles. There were a lot of moments where I was like "Am i being manipulated?" hahah. I had a lot of jumpscares and moments where I felt there was no escape. I found all the tapes too! Keep up the good work! Here is the video to my stream! https://youtube.com/live/vlbSK1xuZqA
This is a really hard game in my opinion. I think this game appeals to the hardcore gamers. The game is really well done. I was surprised how much advanced graphics there are. Also, the developer is really responsive which is great. I hope the next game is easier :)
I found the demo for this game on Itch played it and was disappointed by the end of it since I wanted so much more of this game till I found out it had actually released. This game is easily one of my favourite games I have played within the last couple days, The Eerie silence of the mansion with the constant confusion of just being tossed straight into it with no context other than a postcard and a stone and slowly having to figure out what's going on through some nice but pretty difficult puzzles. The monster designs in this are also pretty good as well. The only pet peeve I had with this game was in the part where you have to shoot each individual tv and then fight a monster the inverted controls is absolutely diabolic especially considering there is no checkpoints in between these fights with the boss 1 shotting you gets irritating very quickly. Overall this game is probably going to be one of the best games released this year and will be very difficult to top.
Very good, havent gotten too far yet but I do like the game & gameplay so far!
this is a really well made indie horror, I was pleasantly surprised
