A Classic Asteroids Style Space Shooter
https://youtu.be/_EKkVkrn260 + The gameplay is very similar to classic asteroids. You shoot asteroids, keep your momentum, and can go off the screen and appear on the other side of space. However, in this game at the end of each level you fight bosses, and also have a variety of different weapons and power ups to unlock. + 1-4 Player Local Multiplayer! + Great looking space background + Leaderboards + Excellent upbeat electronic soundtrack that really makes the game very enjoyable and relaxing to listen to. This game is in Early Access so these are subject to change - I didn't see a health bar anywhere so it was hard to tell when I was about to die. Suggestions: ~ I would have liked to have seen more weapon variety ~ There are power-ups with a $ sign that gives points. It would be great if you could perhaps purchase upgrades from a shop at the end of each round, or something of the sort.
KAUFBERATUNG
Have fun! [i]Hat euch dieses Review gefallen? I played Solaroids for hours with a few friends at the Vandal Game Night and had a blast. I love that you battle asteroids, bosses, and each other while trying to fly around obstacles and space mines at break-neck speeds. It is definitely one of the best indie throwback space games I've played. It is true to the original asteroids but has a lot of new features, enemies, weapons, and music.
Shoot all these alien machines and asteroids You will gain a lot of pickups wich contains money, repairs, weapons, ... It have a global leaderboard and you can play it together with others wich makes it more fun to play for scores https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgm1pb8AFw0
Wow this game is a absolute masterpiece. I have played all types of asteroid type games since the original but this is by far the best. I have only been playing for less than an hour and I am totally blown away. I love the feeling of expansiveness. I love the hit and run tactics. The power ups are awesome and dont fade off too quickly ( you can chase them down if they go off screen) It has a worldwide leaderboard. There are multiple control types. The enemies look great and vary in strategy. Solaroids ticks all the boxes for me.
Solaroids is a game that echoes and calls back to earlier years. Advancing on the concept of Asteroids/Maelstrom and taking it further. Challenges, local multiplayer and well planned upgrades and enemies make this game replayable, challenging and fascinating. There's so many ways to do things so well, and so badly...worth checking out for sure.
Had Asteroids been developed today, it most likely would have looked like Solaroids. It takes the classic’s gameplay mechanics and adds modern shoot’em up features like power ups, different weapons and bosses as well as a decent electronic soundtrack. The graphics are decent in that the game looks modern without overdoing it with effects, so you won’t lose track of where you are on the screen or what’s going on. The “easy to learn, hard to master” formula is somewhat turned upside down as, at least for me, the movement taking inertia into account did take some getting used to - which not only is a tribute to Asteroids but also means that Solaroids is a welcome alternative to all those other shmups that have direct ship movement. It is rather easy to master since once you have internalized how your ship moves, difficulty increases in a very agreeable way. You’ll collect all sorts of weapon and related items and power ups (or might sometimes die in the effort), which keeps the motivation up as bosses become bigger and bigger and enemy missiles innumerable and makes for a good balancing. The icing on the cake for me is the 4 player local coop mode - or not-so-coop if you turn on friendly fire. With the developer readily listening to and implementing feedback, Solaroids is definitely worth the money even as an early access game.
I was honestly not expecting this game to be as enjoyable as it is. Being an Asteroid style game I didn't expect to be as impressed as I am with it. The previews make it look okay, it's when you have the controller in your hand and you start playing that it really feels great. The gameplay is very well done, especially for Early Access. Everything feels right in terms of the controls. There are 3 control styles as well as a decent number of options to make your gaming experience even better. I found that the bloom made my eyes feel tired or something but when I turned it off everything was so nice and crisp. You can adjust the parallax and a number of other things in the options that will make the game feel better to each individual player. As far as the gameplay it's very smooth and feels great. I used the twin-stick style rather than the old school thruster style because it's more of what I enjoy and I have 0 complaints about the gameplay. You level up and as you do so you get more points for various kills or asteroids, the number of enemies and types of enemies increase as does the number of upgrades you can get. The leaderboards are decent, they could use a bit of a tweak in terms of remembering the player names if previously entered because this game does support multi-player and has split or shared screen as well. As it is now if you enter your name in one slot you may be in a different one next time and will have to re-enter your name in a sluggish way where you go letter by letter. The game is supposed to automatically use your Steam name if you are playing solo, however I found that I was often loading in player 2 or 3 slots even when solo and the Steam name is only tied to slot 1. When this comes out onto console I think that some sort of name memory would be beneficial if the players are swapping controllers around or whatever. One other thing I thought that could be improved is the tips you can get in game. They will tell you about certain aspects of the game but they load down below your character. Maybe it's just me but I found that I didn't have time to glance down to read the tips. Perhaps if they were more towards the top of the screen I could read them with my peripheral vision. Also with the tips, they will sometimes pop out of enemies and I found that I would risk my life going after them, not knowing they were just tips, because the icons are quite small and similar looking. Perhaps with the tips they could be made a unique color so the player could choose if they want to go after them or not. Maybe even a system where it remembers if you saw a tip and no longer shows it or even a toggle to remove them completely from the gameplay so it's only upgrades you'll go chasing after. This is definitely one of the best Asteroid style games I've played, it's quite enjoyable and if you like going after high scores this could give you some good fun for a while. I would definitely recommend it to people who like high score games, shmups or fans of Asteroid style games. Very nice.
What a great game. So simple yet SO satisfying. Being an old and cynical gamer, its nice to have something as good as this to break up the monotony that is today's gaming market. Easily worth the asking price(and more). Thanks Kiates.
This is a nice Asteroids homage. The controls take some getting used to but can be mastered after a while. I would recommend this game especially for local co-op sessions. You can play in split-screen mode with up to 4 players and toggle friendly fire as well as friendly collisions. Although still early access, this is a really well developed and overall recommendable game!
