I had bought Sociable Soccer 24 (SS24) on the switch, which was updated to SS25 for free, and the developers got enough goodwill from me that I thought I'd give this game a chance on Steam as well. I bought this game thinking it was just the next version in the franchise as it came out about a year after SS25. However, It turns out that this is basically SS25 without the biggest part of the single player component (the career mode), no online component, and approximately another 1000 licensed player names. I appreciate that I wrote the review with very little playtime, and I usually try to beat games before reviewing them, but I have played SS25 on the switch enough to say the interface is exactly the same, minus items related to online and career modes, the avatars and refs are also the same and that the similarities are enough to lead me to believe that I can judge this game with what I've played. I don't personally mind the absence of online play because I understand this is much more niche than FC26/PES and the like, the price is lower than that of SS25 and I am not too fond of online play personally. However I did intend to play single player and I do believe that the loss of the career mode detracts from the experience. Having said that, the gameplay is just as what I experienced on the Switch version of SS25, which is to say very simple and arcadey in feel and similar in spirit to much older games. There are a few ways to play the game in terms of controls. The first is coach mode, in which you just let the game play and you can change the formations and sub people in and out, then there's casual mode, which lets you actually play but has some built in assistance of passing, and finally there's pro mode, in which you are given finer control over where the ball goes. You can curve the ball when passing and shooting and you can pull off intricate passing sequences to reach the opposite end of the pitch in the blink of an eye, and I appreciate the simplicity of it all. The game usually controls well, but I have had some grips with both versions of SS regarding the controls, such as having trouble doing headers or passes leading directly into a shot. I suspect that either the mechanics were simplified or the timing is too tight because I've never been able to pull of a header and my players usually slide towards the ball if I press the shoot button mid pass (I would have expected the player receiving the pass to shoot at the earliest opportunity instead of tackling the ball towards the goal, but often the end result is the same). Another minor annoyance is that the automatic character selector can ovverride a manual input, and this is especially annoying during kick offs and corner kicks, but it is manageable, In terms of difficulty, I would say the AI is on the easy side, though they are much more likely to score miraculous goals if their team score (the aggregate sum of the team's player values) are much higher than yours. However, I will say that it is possible to get easy goals if you end up face to face against the goalie, which may be part of why I found the AI to be easy. I found I could lob the ball towards the goal and the goalie would be hopeless most of the time, though it does require a bit of timing to get the ball over the goalie's head. In terms of graphics, the game is serviceable. The game may have the names of tons of players, but it does not aim to accurately portray their likeness outside of the photos in their player cards. I'd say that it's more than adequate considering the price. Local play supports two players as far as I can tell, so you may want to consider a different game if you'd like to play with more people at the same time. You can choose how the ref behaves in local play by selecting from a list of them, but when playing solo they are assigned at random. I've already stated there's no career mode, but what is available for single players is a series of cups for various nations and continents, in which you can pick a team and try to win said cups. This is fairly standard, but I do think it lacks the allure of picking your local club and turning it into a force of nature over time. The game also lacks some settings that could prolong the enjoyment of sngle player. For example, as far as I can't tell you can't change the duration of the match, and he default duration is rather short. However, this game is more casual experience with a lot of heart, and during gameplay those details are unimportant. With all of that said, I am going to recommend this game because I enjoy the actual gameplay, but only if you are interested in local play with your friends. Otherwise I would encourage you to look into SS25, which is available on Steam various other platforms.
This is everything that I want from a soccer game. *Straight into the game *No loot boxes *Focus is playing soccer instead of career simulation (I'm here to play not work) *Great control system *Online play including remote play with friends that don't own the game. Jon Hare still the best in his field after 40 years in the business. I give this game 96% out of 100%
Thanks John Hare, again. From Amiga's Sensible Soccer, then SWOS for PC, Sensible Soccer 2006 and, finally, Sociable Soccer saga. I cannot recommend this game enough. Just plain soccer game, just fun,
Sociable Soccer Champions is basically pro evvolution soccer without linceance but on 3D semi mode, you can do career mode, tournament mode, two player mode, it is fun and competitive greater than most people think of it because it never disappoint, it always deliver the fightback spirits by showing believing in yourself by producing the greatest comeback of all time, i recommened the game as a 9 out of 10.
This game is heartbreaking. How can they release an inferior version of last years game and charge $15 for it? I get having to charge again due to the player licenses but removing modes?!? It's a inferior game in every way as far as I can tell. And worse, last years game is no longer available!? Still worth playing if you are looking for that Sensi Soccer style. Gameplay is great, but no online and no career mode is unacceptable tbh.
Gameplay was somewhat fun, but game kept crashing randomly and freezing my PC and causing PC to crash also. I have a 4090 13th gen intel CPU 32 ram. So the PC is not the issue.
This game's got balls in it. It's good
