The astetic is nice and cute but this game has no sound options at all. I've played though all the 2 and 3 snake levels and it feels like they are just the warm up for the harder levels. Controls are lacking. The camera is locked to isometric corners and can obstruck your view. Nonsnake blocks can be made see-through. While you can change the view with wasd or the arrows the snakes can only be moved by the mouse and they often don't move as you want them to. (If you don't click on a snake head you will move the camera which can be annoying) Becaues you can click on the boxes in the top left to draw the snakes back one square you can just try again but I would rather it work the first time. Overall the game could be alot better and the lack of good controls are killing my wish to finish the game, maybe I will come back to it at some poin and try to finish it out. As it is I wouldn't pick it up unless you are okay with it's clunky nature.
Snake Blocks is a minimalist/low poly 3D mobile-like pathing puzzle game. Each level must be solved by routing the required number of "snakes" from their starting block to their designated finish block without running into each other etc etc. You can change the resolution and there's also a level editor, which is a welcome feature, and you can share levels on Steam Workshop, so these are all plusses for a game that's otherwise just another drop in an ocean of minimalist/mobile app type games on Steam. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The game features lazy low-polygon "retro" assets, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the 1990s. It's unclear why the developers weren't able to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets for the game, and also irrelevant... what matters is that this looks bad as a result of their decisions, a compromise PC gamers shouldn't have to put up with. This looks and feels like a mobile app, but I wasn't able to find it on the app stores. Maybe it was removed, maybe it was rejected by Apple and Google (they do have more rigorous quality standards than Valve does for Steam, after all). Regardless, for all intents and purposes this is a mobile app, it has the same limitations and dumbed down qualities. It's impossible to recommend such a game to PC gamers. We don't spend all this money building gaming rigs so we can pretend they're iPhones. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected in the general public reception. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the game only ever reached a peak player count of only 6 players. That's right, only 6. This is a pitiful enough number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam, the overwhelming lack of interest in the game is remarkable, but also to be expected. This complete and utter rejection of the game from gamers should be a keen information point for anyone considering buying shovelware like this. Gamers just didn't take this seriously, and for good reason. Snake Blocks is somewhat pricey at $5, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. Because this is the kind of game you can just play for free on mobile phones, it's impossible to recommend anyone should pay money for the same experience on Steam. This is the kind of game that would do a lot bettwe with the right target audience on the mobile app stores.
