About
Slimekeep is a fast paced action roguelike with a heavy emphasis on decision making and player freedom. Adventure through procedurally generated levels, in a quest to stop the spread of corruption created by the Slime King. You'll have the choice to fight or capture slimes, visit the Slime King's lair, or hold off another day, and so much more. Think Enter the Gungeon meets Slime Rancher, with additional unique mechanics, and elements.
Unique Combat:
In Slimekeep, every slime will grow over time. You can decide between letting slimes grow for more resources, at the cost of them becoming more powerful. Or, if you'd like, kill off the slimes early, providing less resources, but making for an easier, and less risky fight. All of this with an array of over 80 unique weapons and upgrades.
Slime Pet:
If you'd like to take a more passive route to combat, you can capture slimes with a specially crafted capture gun, capable of extracting essence out of slimes, which can be used to upgrade your slime pet. Choose one, or many paths to build your slime pet around, from brute to assassin to specialty. Craft your slime pet to transform from a simple helper to a full-blown slime destroying machine.
Bosses:
Slimekeep contains a cast of 5 unique bosses. Battle against mechs, samurais, or DJs. Each boss is carefully crafted with unique art, animations, attacks, and gimmicks to create a real challenge. And to beat the game, all you have to do is defeat the dreaded slime king, in which you can visit at any time. Sounds simple, right?

Good game but no sex with hot slime king
look -- i really thought this game was gonna be good and i anxiously awaited it and watched all the videos, but this game just isnt worth your time. its not very fun at all, and very rough around the edges. im so sorry benbonk i still love you!!! im not going to refund it because i want to support mr bonkie though
I do not recommend this game, lol. I really want to be nice, but this game is not it. I think what primarily makes me feel this way is the price. This game is worth $5. If it was 5 dollars I wouldn't care as much. But when you are comparing this to Enter the Gungeon one of my favorite games of all time, it really falls short, especially since that game is the same price. The game economy is hard, but it is what it is. This game just feels very empty, unpolished, and feels like it needs a reason to exist. Why am I doing anything in this game? The process to get to that point isn't that good either. I hate games where I can go to the boss whenever. The tutorial is awful, and you can't skip it. The game needs to be much more snappy, everything just feels very clunky, not fluid, and just not great. The UI's are terrible. For a game that was claimed to be made over 5 years, this is really lackluster... I want to be nice, so I will say you tried, I have not made a game yet, so I cannot say much about how hard it would be, but it seems to me like this game would be very easy to make for someone with some experience. At the core the game is essentially literally trying to be Enter the Gungeon, but with none of the things that make that game great. Continual progression, snappiness, a good all in theme art style, synergies, rewards for being a skilled player, secrets, good sound design. This feels like a very cheap and horrible rip off of enter the gungeon, not saying that was their intention, I'm just saying that is how this game feels. I bought this game (at FULL PRICE) to support the developer. I watched their video about the game, and how much money it made, and I said I would buy it, review it, and make a video about it possibly. I wish I had positive things to say about the game. It makes me feel sick, everything just feels put there for no reason, the art style I don't like, WHY is it green? There is no reason for it. There is a whole long tutorial about the very basics, but the main part about the game is supposed to be capturing monsters to upgrade stuff, I still don't know what those upgrades do, but the upgrades for that suck, and the ui for it sucks. I don't want to discourage the developer from making more games, but I am going to point out the things that are just awful, and this game really doesn't hit the mark in a lot of ways. Sometimes you just have to refine the thing, sometime you have to sit down and think what is the main idea of this game. I think this was good for some experience. I don't think anyone should pay $15 for this, unless you want to support an aspiring developer. I mean don't buy it if you haven't played Enter the Gungeon first at least, because that game is the GOAT top 3 favorite game ever. I would give this game a 3/10? It's just not it. I don't think it needs refinement, because I don't know what the developers main idea for the game was, to be green? You nailed it then. If you want it to be a capturing game, then it needs to be more like slime rancher, mixed with pokemon or something. I don't know what this game is trying to do, because it isn't doing it. It isn't a good roguelike because it doesn't have any of the good elements of those games, there isn't really anything to experience or find or see, or try. I feel like I got the idea of the game in the first 10 minutes, and that was all there was to offer. I just think this game misses in every way. It needs a theme, good design strategy, good game desing strategy, better ui, better visuals, better audio. Like Enter the Gungeon. When a boss shows up it just shows a static photo, and the way it appears is bad. This game also reminds me of Despots game but that game is in another league compared to this one. And that game has great visual design, everything is fluid, snappy, and reactive, that is what you want in a game, this is not that. This feels like something you would play for free as a flash game, or something a kid made for fun. This is not a proffessional high quality product, which is something that you can command a decent price for. If you want to have better reviews you'll need to drop the price to at least $10, I don't care if you spent 7k on it, that is just the reality of it. (Of course this is all my opinion.) Again I really don't want to discourage the developer, good job! You made a game! I am happy you like it. I support you, keep trying. You are building a great foundation, I want more game developers. This just stinks though... Lol.
It was a short, but really rough experience, sadly. I'm a huge fan of slimes in general, but this wasn't enough to impress me. The presentation is probably the most redeemable aspect of the game, using only shades of green to simulate the OG Gameboy feel plus fitting with the common slime's color palette was a cute and clever idea, also the ost although kinda repetitive it had its charm too. Sadly that's where most of my praises end. I'll just say it straight away: it's boring. - Shooting doesn't feel all that great, especially since to reload you can't keep the shoot button held, but instead you need to press again for it to work, which gets annoying real fast when the guns I had have to reload after 6-7 shots. - Same goes for the "Luigi's Mansion"-styled sucking mechanic, as it breaks the pace of combat while also feeling finicky and frustrating - I also personally hate the fact that you need to wait for enemies to "level up" before shooting them if you want to get any substantial resources, maybe it would be better if some of the enemies were already leveled up so that the player can do something while waiting for the others to grow (or just scratch this mechanic completely, I hate it I'm sorry) - The enemies, besides a few exceptions and the final boss, feel bland and uninspired, and in general, almost no enemy uses the fact that they're a slime as part of their moveset! This was probably my biggest disappointment, especially since slimes are such versatile creatures, instead they get equipped with a weapon and given a dnd-styled class, like any other fantasy game - The tutorial is abysmal, and mostly what ruined my mood while playing the game. There's just too much text! Text that says stuff I could figure out on my own, or stuff that was explained so poorly that I had to spend 2-3 minutes to figure out what they were talking about (it took me way too much to figure out where to drop the slimes on the ranch-thingy) I still have other minor gripes, but I feel like I made my point already. I feel bad for the developer as I know that reading stuff like this must feel awful after having worked on it for so long... I won't refund the game, but I won't play it again, not until there's a new update that addresses some of the stuff I mentioned. If the dev manages to improve the pace of the game and make it more "interesting" and fluid to play, then I also might change this review entirely. Best of luck for you, dev! 4/10
It's got nice visuals. But I can't really give it a thumbs up for the gameplay. It has you killing slimes, but in order to get upgrades you have to NOT kill them but instead absorb them with a different gun, in a gimmicky way that's not really fun to do. Reloading is kinda annoying too and needs to be done manually. You can hold the button down to autofire but if you do this it won't auto reload and you just stop shooting. The pet slime is a fun idea but kinda meh in practice. Then the bosses are super tanky and it's sometimes unclear if/where/when you can avoid their attacks. Which, given your own limited life bar, can result in game-overs pretty quickly. The music in the (non-boss) areas is mostly just the same track on repeat and it gets annoying. And I also ran into some bugs where the pet slime AI seems to break and it just runs off, or where the absorb minigame doesn't show the catch bar after the sucky part.
As this is a new game I see great potential in, take all of my review with the perspective that this game has already won me over, this is just me being critical because I have a few first impressions. Firstly, the games popups, such as the 'all rooms cleared!' popup or the minigame to capture slimes, seem to sometimes pop up at the wrong time or not at all. secondly, due to the colour palette, the enemies can sometimes not stand out, despite their big white outlines. personally, i would suggest darkening the floor further to help with contrast. I also think that the movement can feel a tad disjointed at times, perhaps smoothing dashes or keeping some speed for a bit after dashing would help. All of that said, I LOVE the music and art. I love the random bossfights that remind me of old pixel platformers such as Bubble bobble par. The whole experience feels very retro and I wouldn't call it easy. Furthermore, you can feel the soul poured into the game. I would like to see bigger levels, as currently I find myself beating a level in seconds. It would be interesting to see larger levels, although maybe there are larger ones and I haven't seen them yet. When I beat the game, I will come back to finish this review, but for now, 8.74/10 great work, please continue to respond to community feedback, but at the core of it, do whatever your heart and creative drive tells you! This is in itself a finished product. Wonderful game- worth every penny
videos give a false impression - watched for all 5 years of devlogs but still dissapointed not really fun, the mechanics are good on paper, but in practice they were implemented poorly
I usually give a game 30 minutes to an hour to impress me. But I couldn't even get to that time range. The game had promise, a lot of it, but the "runs" are way too short and there's not enough to do in the game to justify the game costing you 20 bones. Along with the game's aggressive amounts of green not jiving with me. In short. Go buy Pizza Tower. And look for slime games elsewhere. 3/10
really boring
Ain't gonna lie, was hyped for this game but it truly sucks
