While I did get a key from the developer for this game, I'm not letting that color my view in any way. I've seen quite a few reviews on this, some of them negative saying it was to easy. That's not the case. There are sections where it is a bit simple at the start, but I only got through the first 7 chapters of the first story in just over 2 hours. From the looks of it, there's still 7 chapters to go, and that's not including the two other story archs, the arcade mode, two other modes currently in progress, and an experimental mode. You get a heck of a cardi work out in this too, especially in the portion where you have to hand to hand without weapons. Here's my video play if anyone is interested. I can't wait to go back in later, but I need to catch my breath and stop sweating first. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bU8_VvKRRLk
Just finished playing the first chapter. Really lovely environments that give a real sense of exploration. The fact that progress is not too difficult also adds to the feeling of adventure rather than grindy shooter. Some people have complained that combat feels a bit lame, but that is partly fixed by the recent updates, and partly also by the fact that later on in the game there is more shooting than swordfighting. As others have said, the graphics are very cool. It does lead to some stuttering though, and a bit more optimization would be welcome. Final boss level is absolutely beatifully made. Wish I could have stayed on there a bit longer after the fight was over! Very much looking forward to chapters two and three! Keep up the great work, devs!
Updated review. This game looks good and is fun to play. It can be slightly physical but not over the top. There is a level where you will have to fist fight which was surprising at first but cool. You can use melee, fists, or weapons you aquire along your journey. The developer is actively reading comments and tweaking and changing the game as needed ,of course, in his time schedule. If you buy this game leave constructive criticism. This is well worth supporting as it is not a dopey project. This game will be completed as there is quite a bit of content in it already if you don't just rush through. I have played it on two systems so far and it ran well on both. System 1: Core i7-7820x/32gb DDR4 RAM/GTX 1080 8gb VRAM/ HTC VIVE PRO System 2 Gaming Laptop: Core i7-8750H 2.2Ghz (4.1Ghz Turbo)/16 Gigs DDR4 RAM/GTX 1060 6gb VRAM/HTC VIVE Here are 2 gameplay videos to watch if you would like to get a glimpse of the game. This is my 1st and 2nd play videos. The choppiness in the one video was from a smudge on my lighhouse. I think a bug or something left its mark. Hehe. Enjoy the videos. My videos are always RAW and edited lightly. So don't take what I say so seriously. I do that so devs can hear my gripes and hopefully fix them. My 2nd time playing was better than the first since I got the hang of the gameplay. The dark fruit video was the latest so far: 7/10/2018. https://steamcommunity.com/id/mercury7elite/videos/?appid=546150&sort=newestfirst&browsefilter=myfiles&view=imagewall
Very pretty for a VR title and remains performant even at 120 Hz. Hopefully there are more biomes in future levels. https://youtu.be/4viIbv-TMdc The audio could get a tad loud at times and it would be nice if the deep voiced narrator was a tad louder or the game audio was reduced while he was speaking. The gameplay is much more arcadey than I was expecting. This ins't necessarily a bad thing just not quite what I was expecting going in. Melee combat is less about precision and more about blindly swinging for the head. Even on the hardest setting combat was simultaneously laughably easy and extremely chaotic. Often times you don't know why you got hit or from where. I couldn't tell how to prevent that damage. Parrying seemed to work in a slow one on one fight but with larger numbers it seemed a less reasonable option. To be honest though it didn't seem to matter as we were flooded with armor and health items. For the icing on the combat cake, waggling to win appears to be a thing. You're going to play this for the story experience more than the combat. For some the combat would be a deal breaker however you open up to ranged combat in later levels which turns the game into more of a FPS than a hack and slash. To me it feels more like a power fantasy style game that's in need of more polish than any sort of melee focused game like Blade and Sorcery, Karnage Chronicles or Vanishing Realms. Set expectations appropriately going in. Things I would like to see improved upon in the final release. General melee combat polish. I need to know where damage is coming from. Why am I getting hurt and how do I stop it? More emphasis on skill and less on wild swings. A hard mode that is actually hard. Audio ducking when the BBEG is narrating so I can actually hear him. More consistent item interaction. Some things are picked up by walking over them and some have to be picked up by bending over to grab them. Polish around movement. There's just something that's a tad off. Index controller orientations or a setting to reorient hands. Overall an enjoyable experience. I'm curious to see what happens with the story but I may wait for the full release to jump back in. If the rest of the levels are consistent with he first 4 you'll likely get a significant number of gameplay hours out of the game to make the price tag worth while.
Awesome, cant wait for part 2.
I feel sad for this game, because It was so promising. The cg here is mindblowing. Chacters, their animation, environment, etc is just perfect. And this game have one of the best weapons I've ever saw. But... The other things are just horrible, game is mostly unplayable. -First vr fps I've seen where you are not moving on actual ground. It looks like but its not! You can notice it when running from height to lower ground. You will realise the character is kinda flying... When you are on some platfoms - some of them are moving faster than you. When they are already on the ground, you are still flying. -Absolutely no footsteps sound. -Sometimes sound dissapears at all, except some of the scripted ones. -No proper save games. -Menu doesn't work. And this is the worst problem. You can aim and click on smooth rotation button, but game changes graphics settings instead. When you try to change diffuculty, game changes levels... And when you click on levels arrows nothing happens at all. And as there are no game saves, you cant continue playing on levels where you was before. What the hell??? -If you are using rift s you cant place items over your shoulder. So you can't even complete the tutuorial... So I played with forcing the game to work on steamvr sometimes and rebinding some buttons, so it can be solved. -Horrible collisions. Absolutely. Enemies are shooting and atacking you from the walls and you can't even see them. -But also there are few invisible walls for you. -Locomotion frequently just stops working if game runs on oculus sdk. -Game have smooth rotation, but... after horror with menu, if you was lucky to turn it on and turn off the snapped rotation, you will realise that snapped rotation are always working anyway! Push the right stick - first camera spins as a snapped, and only after one turn work as a smooth. Disgusting. -Oh, yeah! Sometimes game randomly changes it to full snapped rotation. -Does the lagoona level supposed to be the last in the game? I mean the level where you meet tribe of guys who are not attacking you. The game show me the logo of developers after this with no explanation what the hell is going on. -This level in mountains with big worm in center of it. The starting and ending points of level are kinda swapped. So you are starting at the end of the level. Cmon, how can you miss it? -Lights on the top of the screen emerged on the last levels of the game. What is it supposed to be? Health bar? Why it works only on last levels? -Frequent game crashes. -This game engine is always bad at loadings between levels (last frame flickering in front of you). But its only if running on steamvr. -A lot of strange white boxes all around in last levels. Some of them are big, so they are blocking your view. -Sometimes levels just randomly switches you to the next ones. -Switching the weapons with buttons was so bad idea. -Some of the features doesnt not described through the tutorial and game, so you cant understand whats going on sometimes. -In game trailers and letsplays I saw the weapons, I've never saw in the game. Was they hidden or deleted? for example some kind of rifle with disc on its top. -Same with riding the alien creature from treailer. This game is so buggy and unplayable, so I can't recommend it.
I have a very hard time not to play this game becuase i want to see it all when all chapters are out because its that good of a game art work combat the world itself its a great VR tittle everyone should try
Beautiful graphics, stylish epic visual effects, but the gameplay seems altogether too easy...? A lot of walking through otherwordly forest areas on a grand scale, but with not much happening. And there's a weird snake creature I could neither entice to attack me, nor could I attack it. Odd. And killing the creatures who did attack were a walk in the park (forest). The mechanics are really good with everything doing what it's supposed to. It looks like the dev's plan to add to the storyline down the track which will perhaps be a little more challenging. But worth a look for the artistry of it all - creatures and critters galore all slickly rendered.
A Turok-style VR Game That Is Frustrating, Yet Intriguing. What an interesting game. Certainly not bad enough to condemn it, but not good enough to shout its name from thr rooftops. Let me break it dow into the Pros and Cons: PROs - Amazing, lush visuals. Simulates a jungle-type atmosphere well. Would be a good back-drop for a Tarzan VR game. - Weapon cycling is pretty straight forward. I only have the sword and gun right now, I wonder if I get more weapons, will that become a problem, or should a weapon selection sub-screen be used? - Close up combat can have a great intensity to it. Occassionally, the world would melt away, and all that mattered to me would be smashing the enemy with the sword. - Loved the giant creatures crawling around the area. Made it feel like there was 'another layer to the onion'. What a shame there seemed to be no interaction with them. -Went through this dark cave section where the primary form of illimination was by firing my gun. Very nice lighting effects, and thought I could see spiders up there (but could not interact with them). - Thank you for including smooth turning. It is not very fast, but useable (an adjustable turning speed would be nice). - Even once you get the guns, you can still run into enemies were a sword is still useful (one enemy was able to Jedi-block all my shots, but the sword would come in handy. Imagine my surprise where launching a 'blue flying bug' on it seemed to be more effective). - Despite the cons mentioned below, the overall gameplay and visuals kept me wanting to go a little further. - Loved it you had a tutorial that covered the basic controls and gameplay. CONs: - Running a i7-8700, 16GB RAM, 1070Ti with defaulkt game settings. Mostly smooth graphics, but with a number of enemies on screen, some juttering and frame skipping can occur. Slightly immersion breaking. - Sword swinging feels 'weird'. I am not sure if I am capable of blocking a sword strike or not (no haptic feedback that I can recall). Hit detection on enemy is okay, although at times it is difficult to know precisely how much damage you are delivering. - Enemies that can hurl weapons at you for the most can do so, and succesfully hit you, even if you are standing behind a solid object. - Despite being immersed in a very colorful, lush environment, it can feel a lot like a corridor shooter (some areas spread out nicely, but feels exclusively like a 'get to point B from point A'). Looking up into the sky, imagining what it would be like to climb up to the top and see the rest of the world is perhaps the biggest tease of this game. For what I have played so far, you are strictly tied to the ground. Being able to engage enemies from above would add great variety to the gameplay. - When you bring up your menu (Oculus pressing B button), having a text/verbal description of your choices would be nice. I'm figuring it out, but not everybody may have the patience to do so. Also having an available amount/max carryable for health and the like would be nice. - There was a part where I got some mask that had a 'flashlight' on it, and I had a pair of 'fire axes' that shot poorly aimed balls of energy. When I got to the next portion of the game, these axes were not available anymore. Made me wonder what the point of them were. - Despite myself choosing smooth turning, each time I restart the game, it seems to disappear, and I have to go to options to select it again. If I continue Mission 1 (where I already chose smooth turning), will it still be there? - Although I chastise the game for being corrodor-like, I like that in certain sections you could climb up some hills....but only to be randomly stopped. Overall, I have no regrets about purchasing, and am enjoying it enough to want to play some more
