Are you looking for a unique gaming experience? How often do you play indie games? Today, I’ll be looking at a new quirky racing game with a twist. Most racing games like Mario Kart, Forza, and Gran Turismo, use vehicles but in this game, Slide – Animal Race, you can choose between multiple different animals instead of vehicles, a rather interesting concept for a racing game. You can select between 6 different animals. These animals include a turtle, fox, penguin, dolphin, orca, or even a seagull. A rather diverse cast for a racing game. And it doesn’t matter which animal you choose since the stats on each animal are the same. So go ahead and choose the animal you truly like the most without worrying about which one is faster. I honestly like the fox most cause of the way in runs in the desert stage. Talking of the actual maps, there are a total of 6 stages. These stages are the Dragons of Aurora, Pirates Cove, Diplodocus Desert, Eternal Snow, Celtic Lands, and Lantern Festival. Each has a different theme, but I think the most interesting themes are the Dragons of Aurora and Lantern Festival. Both of the stages are very different from normal stages and is a great addition to the game. Each stage has its own music as well, spanning from tropical to dreamlike music overall. The mechanics of the game are actually rather interesting as well. Most racing games will have a drifting mechanic. However, Slide has a diving mechanic. You can use this diving mechanic to get small speed boost after a few seconds when the animal shows a blue or purple light. Unlike other racing games, you can use this diving function while going in a straight line. This allows for much more competitiveness regarding the A.I’s that you race. Since everyone can speed boost at any time, it is rather difficult to get to the number one spot, adding a level of difficulty that you don’t see often in other racing games. Items in game are standard. You have the boost item, a bomb item, freeze item, and a few more things. There is nothing out of the ordinary there. A racing game wouldn’t be a racing game without any multiplayer support, and luckily Slide allows for local 8 player split-screen races. I don’t have enough people to show you what 8 player support looks like, but here is what the 4 player split-screen race looks like overall. The only complaint I have with this game overall is that it does not have internet multiplayer. This would allow those who don’t have a group of 8 people to enjoy the game to its fullest. But as a single player game, Slide is an beautiful game worth checking out. Slide – Animal Race releases on February 17, 2021, so look out for it on steam when it lands. Thanks everyone for watching, and I’ll catch you all next time.
Slide - Animal Race isn't a bad game, in fact it's pretty good. Unfortunately, there isn't enough content for the price tag. I played through all of the levels (with all of the characters) in less than 30 minutes. I wouldn't recommend it at full price, maybe wait for it to go on sale.
This is a fresh and cutie racing party game. The classic Mario Kart formula that I can not get tired of, with some clever improvements like the diving system. It's all about cool animals swimming on beautiful mind-bending racing tracks. Simple, fun and very polished.
Love it! Perfect to play with your kids!
I am having trouble with Remote Play, the online player cannot control their character. I am unable to configure their controller without having it plugged into my computer. I have removed the controller for player 2 and have the default keyboard set for input. Still waiting to test. Does multiplayer only work if we are plugged into the same computer? I hope not.
I was playing this in 4K and it looked beautiful. Takes a bit of getting used to but it is a lot of fun when you get used to the mechanics. My video playing around with it is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCKOoOjGo90 It's worth noting all the music here is original and made by the developer for the game, and it fits in really nicely. What's been done so far is great but it would be nice to see more tracks and characters and if possible online multiplayer! But I understand that it can be complicated/expensive to set that up.
Super fun game to enjoy with friends, would 100% recommend :)
Nice and fun racing game to play with friends! The ribbon road like is still really fun and gives creative tracks! So cool to play smiling animals! I was really interesting to follow the development of the game!
Good game, especially if you are looking for split screen racing games. I haven't actually tried more than 4 players but I kinda want to. The tracks definitely are interesting visually and the mechanics are pretty fun. I'd say this tops quite a few casual racing games that have much bigger budgets. For the price I definitely recommend.
