SimCity™ 4 Deluxe Edition

SimCity 4 really *feels* like a game that was released in 2003. It's got that old EA feel (from back when they were good) and gives off vibes similar enough to The Sims 1 & 2 (which I grew up on and love). I say it feels like it was released in 2003 because frankly there have been other games released since that are similar enough, which have better graphics / more features, and are more fun to play. This game truly feels like it was amazing for the time. Not a bad way to spend under $10 if it's on sale, but not a game you would want to give more than a few hours to at most (better to play something new instead). Honestly, it's the type of game you'd expect to see for $1 or $2 in a garage sale, and you'd probably think twice about buying it even then. Giving it a thumbs down but my feelings are honestly pretty lukewarm. It's alright for what it is, honestly could see myself loving it if I played it when it came out, but you may be happier playing Cities: Skylines instead.

I bought this game both from GOG (for ownership) and Steam (for accessibility and game hours), and I am hooked to this game! This game is even better than other recent city-building games and it still holds on even after 20+ years. I recommend using the recommended mods (including NAM and SC4Fix) from Simtropolis (the SimCity 4 forum) to make the game runs better and one particular UI mod (the blue UI mod) to modernize the look of the game interfaces (feels like I'm playing The Sims). For those who haven't played this game, I'd recommend getting it from any store (either GOG and Steam is fine, both are the same) and just start playing the game. Oh yeah, this game isn't attached to the EA launcher, hopefully they won't do it and make it independent forever.

Childhood! the music still holds up today, the wackiness of what you hear from buildings, the noise of the traffic, i would have made this review ages ago but for some reason didn't work on my computer so i gave up. several updates later I had forgotten i even had this game, and i'm so glad I stumbled and tried again. being able to play a childhood classic that still has so much fun to it today is the reason why I sometimes like my old games over new.

Started playing this a while ago and this is by far the best city building game of all time. The way cities interact with each other in a region makes the game feel very rewarding as you slowly build out your region and have to upgrade regional infrastructure to keep up with demand. Additionally, the wealth mechanic makes the cities feel alive as your citizens wealth determines crime level, public transport usage, etc, making the game feel unique and realisitc as the wealth also affects the visuals of the buildings as well as the roads around them which make the areas look like slums or a wealthy neighbourhood community. Additionally, the game has some great mods that really enchance the gameplay and are still in active development such as the NAM and CAM mods making the game more playable and realistic. Overall I would get this game before cities skylines 1 and 2 as I have played both and they are not as good (simulation wise).

I am 55. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and adopted our son together. They are now both 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I found myself lost and miserable. I was self destructive. I got so mad one day from everything spiraling out of my control that I punched some concrete in a moment of overwhelming emotion. That caused me to break my 5th metacarpal in my right hand... my working hand... my games hand.. the hand that I held and carried my children to bed with.. The hand I desperately needed to make sure I could continue to provide. After learning of the severity of my self-inflicted damage, I was borderline suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man with no history of depression or anxiety. I have never had fits of rage, or been one to break down and cry, but I was in a low spot that just really buried me from being able to see the light on the other side. Having nothing better to do, I searched for a game I could play, ONE HANDED while I recovered. I somehow stumbled upon this game and read some of the reviews. I decided that it had to be worth a shot... I must admit, I didn't beat the game, or play nearly as long as some of you. In fact, I may have only played this game a day or two.. With that being said, after doing so, I had a new found joy and hope for life. I was able to put behind me the pain and suffering that had been cast over me. I was able to experience other peoples joy and happiness. I was able to see the fruits of my "labor". I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ing minutes to this music long enough to realize that I was going to be okay. After coming to that realization, I turned the game off, and I went back to work. It hurt my hand like hell but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so damn sorry for myself, and I became the father I needed to be in that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving as. Today, I am close friend with my kids mother. We don't fight, or argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents, and friends. I now have 3 kids. My third child is, wait for it, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my own separation, and we just stumbled in to each others life unexpectedly. We have been in a relationship for a year now, and are very happy together. Moral of the story, you never know what life holds in store for you, and if I would have given up when all the odds were stacked against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that. Thank you.

It will not load on my old computer, it kicks back to the Stem page. I recently bought a new laptop and it does the same thing. Shows the intro then kicks back to Steam.

Still holds up very well today, and in a lot of ways it beats its contemporary successors like Cities: Skylines as it does a great job of simulating incredibly large cities while also giving you the flexibility to have fully functioning crime ridden slums. CSL base game gives you no content and buying all the DLC is incredibly expensive, whereas this is just everything for a reasonable price and frequently goes on sale. There's people still adding things to the game and fixing bugs, and while you can still play the game vanilla, these plugins really do add a lot and are worth spending a few hours setting up.
