You can never have too many photo-adventures :) This rather small, but very beautiful game follows the footsteps of the famous Swedish 'Carol Reed' series, - in fact, you can meet its author, Kim Frostlind, in some recent Carol adventures, and Mikael Nyqvist himself appears here as a supporting actor (and even a little bit more than that). The story is a familiar mystery where we gradually gather clues by visiting the breathtakingly picturesque actual locations in a photo slide-show, and try to understand what happened to our recently deceased friend. Definitely recommended to all adventure game lovers!
Follow The Cpt Froggy Club Curator Page for plenty more!
A Swedish scenery photographic point-n-click adventure mystery game, brought to you by Frostlind Games You play as Rebecca, whose childhood friend of many years has passed away in some kind of accident in your hometown. She’s left you her apartment (cleaning lady hasn’t been for a while) and a cryptic note telling you to “follow in her footsteps”. Maybe it wasn’t an accident after all and she was on to something more sinister. You have nothing to go on, so you start to search the apartment for clues, checking for anything which may help you understand why your friend has given you her apartment and left you such a cryptic message. As you find one clue, it will allow you to go to another location or point you towards something else which you may have to discover before finally revealing another clue which will help you further along in your investigation. Some clues may be in parts, so combining them together will reveal the true clues’ meaning. With others, you’ll have to find something which will then allow you to access the other hidden clues. You’ll come across some characters within the game (who may or may not be of any help to you), even as you sleep. As you progress and uncover clues or items which may help you, you’re able to collect and store them in your inventory (hover your mouse over the top of the screen). Here, there is also a notepad, which will give some hints for if you become lost and can’t find your way to the next clue. On the left page, for a more detailed hint, click the hint and it will show you what you’re looking for. Each of the locations shows the natural beauty of the Swedish scenery in photographs, which are great, and I enjoyed looking at. The music I found relaxing as I progressed through the game. There’s a tutorial which you can go through or skip if you’d like; it tells you how to manoeuvre from screen to screen, how to pick up and combine items, and how you can take a closer look at any items you may come across. Upon starting the game you’ll be able to choose some settings: Display Device, Colours 16 or 32bit, Run in Window, Sound Device (Primary, Speakers, Headset, No Sound). In game, you’ll also have Speech, Background and Effects volume sliders, Subtitles on or off. There are 100 profile saves you can take advantage of, and you’re able to save the game at any time. Positives + Nice photo backgrounds + Relaxing music + Achievements Negatives - No cards A nice, relaxing point n click adventure set in Sweden, showing some of its beautiful natural scenery. 6/10 Key provided by developer/publisher for review purposes via THE CPT FROGGY CLUB! pros + an intriguing story. your friend deceased under suspicious circumstances and you start to follow her leads which were left behind and try to solve what actually happened to her + gorgeous environments are presented with colorful first-person photographic stills from Sweden. the developer also uses a Van Gogh style filter on these still photographs and it looks so cool + easy and fun to solve puzzles. you can also make multiple combinations in your inventory and make new items + helpful hint system + pressing the spacebar shows all hotspots + there is a map for fast travel + ok voice acting + relaxing instrumental background musics + it is obviously inspired by the Carole Reed series + there is a tutorial + there are steam achievements cons - game is short - navigation can be disorienting. I'm constantly confused about which way I should go. - i think the game is overpriced considering it's short length and very indie nature. - the end was abrupt and rushed. everything about the story and characters isn’t completely explained - no cards Overall, this is a decent and enjoyable Carole Reed spin-off. If you like Carole Reed games, you're going to enjoy this game as well.
I am a Carol Reed fan, though I'm a bit behind and need to catch up on the series. I agree, if you like the Carol Reed Mysteries you will enjoy Silent Steps. Carol Reed's creator plays a character in this game. Although you are following the footsteps of a dead woman, there is no violence, blood or gore. All locations are real. The few characters are normal men and women. If you want a short, not difficult, beautifully looking game to spend a few hours on this one is for you. Hope to see a sequel,
nice carol reed-offspring game, from the lady who has appeared on some of those. a bit shorter in length compared to an average CR game but no less fun with good graphics (reminiscent of the first few CR games), good puzzles, a fun object finding mini-game (the daz3 characters i'm too familiar with from other kinds of games made me laugh), great music tracks and of course beautiful sceneries and inevitably less beautiful ones like the abandoned ironworks we know from a CR game. all in all it has been a very pleasant few hourse i've spent with silent footsteps. i wish she had made more games like this but probably life got in the way and i'll prefer not to hold my breath after 7 years.
Great walking sim mystery game with interesting plot.
Great Game But when I got to the end it just clouded over my scene and stopped Iand I did not even get to finish , Oh well
