Really short but really cute.
The fact that this game is literally an asset flip should be enough to turn you off, but even then, I'll list everything wrong with the game to save you an hour of your day (yes I did 100% the game in 47 minutes). - the keys aren't rebind-able, and they'll consider your keyboard to be in qwerty - mixels everywhere because the pixels aren't a fixed size - there are only 2 minigames, one of which is a literal AD - only one of the minigames is viable for coins - one level in one of the minigames is near impossible - enemies can and WILL spawn on you in the other minigame - there is NO invincibility window when you respawn - you are able to move when you just respawned, before you can even see yourself, leading to instant deaths because you... don't have invincibility - there are TWO ENEMIES - there is ONE BOSS (it is trash too) - your jump is just horrid and the hitboxes are unforgiving - no coyote time - no input buffering - absolutely abysmal english, and I'm literally french - when you respawn the platform cycle will not reset. I think we're good here, and... thank god. Anyway have a good day random stranger, I hope you'll use your 0.99cents wisely!

This is the greatest game I have ever played in my life. I was depressed and had no hope in life before I found Mommy, but when it was gifted to me by my friend Michaelsoft Windows I knew this game was something special. I thanked Michaelsoft Windows by stealing his wife, and taking his kids. After gaining custody of his children I began my journey to finish the video game Mommy. This game has 781 levels, and I loved and cried to all of the levels. Each level pulled my heartstrings in a way no other game has. I told my therapist about this game, and she played it in her own time. A week later, she was arrested for arson.
Mommy is a 2D side-scrolling platform adventure developed and published by KuKo that focuses on exploration, family themes, and approachable gameplay built around classic platforming traditions. Using retro-inspired visuals and a lighter adventure tone, the game delivers a straightforward experience designed to be welcoming to a broad audience. Rather than emphasizing difficult mechanics or heavily layered progression systems, Mommy centers itself around movement, discovery, and an emotional journey that revolves around courage and determination. The story takes place in Sweet Country, a once peaceful place thrown into chaos after a devastating meteor event changes everything. Families become separated, fear spreads across the land, and survival becomes uncertain. Players step into the role of Toby, a young boy whose world changes dramatically when his loved ones disappear during the disaster. Refusing to simply wait for answers, Toby begins a dangerous journey to search for his missing mother while uncovering what happened to the people who vanished. The narrative uses a simple structure but creates motivation effectively through themes centered around family, perseverance, and hope. What helps Mommy stand out most is its commitment to accessibility. The game clearly aims to create an experience that remains approachable without becoming overly simplistic. Controls stay easy to understand while platforming challenges gradually increase in difficulty as progression continues. The result creates a comfortable balance where players can focus on exploration and movement rather than fighting against overly demanding mechanics. Platforming remains the core of the gameplay experience. Players guide Toby across multiple stages filled with hazards, enemies, environmental challenges, and collectibles. Timing jumps properly and navigating dangerous sections become the foundation of progression. The mechanics remain intentionally traditional, drawing influence from classic side-scrolling platform games rather than introducing unnecessary complexity. The adventure structure also benefits from including additional gameplay variety outside simple movement challenges. Mini-games appear during progression and provide opportunities to earn extra rewards while changing the pacing. These smaller activities help break up platforming sections and add more variety to the overall experience. Exploration also carries additional value because collectibles earned throughout the adventure contribute toward restoring Toby’s damaged home, creating an extra progression layer beyond simply reaching the next stage. The home restoration system becomes one of the more charming additions. Instead of limiting rewards to score numbers or progression checkpoints, Mommy connects exploration directly to rebuilding Toby’s surroundings. This creates stronger motivation to engage with optional content while giving collected resources greater meaning. Boss encounters and larger action sequences also help create pacing variation. Certain sections introduce greater urgency and challenge, preventing the adventure from becoming entirely predictable. Escape moments and larger enemy encounters create occasional spikes in intensity that contrast effectively against slower exploration segments. Visually, Mommy embraces retro design principles through colorful pixel-art presentation that fits naturally alongside its family-friendly identity. The environments remain bright and readable while maintaining enough variety to support progression through different areas. The visual style feels nostalgic without depending entirely on nostalgia itself. Additional illustrated story moments also strengthen personality and help deliver narrative moments more effectively. Audio presentation complements the atmosphere well. Background music supports exploration and lighter adventure moments without becoming intrusive. The soundtrack reinforces the tone consistently, helping maintain the feeling of a family-oriented journey built around discovery rather than tension. The game’s strongest qualities also define some of its limitations. Players searching for deep progression systems, highly advanced mechanics, or particularly demanding platforming difficulty may eventually find the experience somewhat limited in scope. Mommy remains committed to accessibility throughout its design, which naturally means experienced platform fans may move through portions of the adventure relatively quickly. Independent development limitations also become noticeable at times. The game favors simplicity over large-scale ambition, and certain players may wish for broader gameplay evolution or additional mechanical depth later into progression. However, KuKo clearly focused on delivering a smaller experience with consistency rather than attempting systems beyond the game’s intended scope. What ultimately makes Mommy enjoyable is sincerity. It understands exactly what kind of adventure it wants to create and remains committed to that identity from beginning to end. The combination of approachable platforming, family-centered storytelling, and retro presentation creates an experience that feels genuine rather than overly ambitious. Players who enjoy classic platform adventures built around exploration and lighter progression systems will likely appreciate what Mommy offers. It does not reinvent the genre, but it delivers a heartfelt journey supported by charming presentation and accessible design that remains enjoyable throughout its adventure. Rating: 7/10
