Great game, the sounds and movement of objects floating made it feel really good. Played a lot of VR and this one stands out. Pretty challenging too. Can't wait for more of the free content.
Beautiful game, easy to play. A little short but they promise more levels coming soon. A few replays to get all steam achievements.
It is a small charming environmental jigsaw puzzle in VR with great presentation and satisfying item handling. I've encountered a very annoying bug on the levels 2 and 3, where half of the pieces were spawned below the floor. And some water reflections on the 1st level are shimmering, when observed from certain angles. Those issues spoiled my experience a bit, but did not ruin it. Works on Reverb G2.
Wow speak of the devil, I played this game and put footage of it on my largely unwatched youtube channel lol, and actually got praise from the devs somehow. I then replied about hoping for updates and upon turning on steam today there are, I'm guessing it's based more on their meta launch but still really cool to see more of this game. Shores of Loci is like a 3D jigsaw puzzle and a rather enjoyable experience, the idea seems simple but like Katamari Damacy looks can be deceiving. It's like someone smashed a model town and asked you to help them fix it, makes you feel like you're really building something especially when the tiny people in the town start milling about. Anyway looking forward to any new content, maybe I'll post another vid no one will ever watch lol.
Such a pretty game! I got a free key to stream it, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. In short: The levels are gorgeous, music is chill, transitions are impressive, puzzles are challenging. There are some things to keep in mind though. Difficulty The game feels like a puzzler, but sometimes it can be almost too challenging to see how pieces are supposed to fit together, multiple times I seemingly randomly found the right spot. They have done a good job hiding what would be a seam and what is just any geometry, possibly to a fault. That said, there is a way to prevent frustration, the built in hint system can lead you to the right place. Interaction In general interactions are physics based, you can throw pieces around and rotate the bigger part you are building on as if there was no gravity, it's quite satisfying and relaxing. One gotcha is that if you're somewhat tall, moving a piece above your head will make it race away and then move back into your space close to the ground. I think this is a mechanism to return pieces that are out of reach, but I'm actually still holding it, so it's a bit confusing. Index Controllers When playing with Index controllers I kept dropping my pieces, it was due to grabbing them with the trigger, then relaxing my other fingers so the grip let go, which would happen even while the trigger was depressed. I simply unbound the grip in the SteamVR settings and that was that, but it was quite frustrating until I realized that was the issue. Conclusion If you like relaxed puzzlers with beautiful and chill scenery, this could be for you. Keep in mind the few caveats mentioned though, might take some tweaking to make it play better.
If you get the problem of puzzle pieces not showing (below the table/deck) and finally fix them (had to do multiple Steam VR Reset Seating Positions) then the game is short, but good.
Beautiful game full of caring design executed very well. It's early access, but what's there is very polished and has its own completeness to it. I also think it's already worth the asking price. I bought it on sale for $12 which was good for my budget brain that doesn't want to spend much money but also wants to be exploring cool artistic/creative VR experiences :p The gameplay is a jigsaw experience. Which if you've never tried something similar in VR (like Puzzling Places), it is extremely engaging when done well like it is here. I don't think this is even a 'niche' thing, like of course not everyone will love it but I think most people would enjoy it. It's very satisfying, relaxing, immersive, engaging. The puzzles have a good difficulty to them. I used the hint feature 3 times and felt good about using it but also never felt cheated, like "oh that's an unfair/unreasonable jigsaw connection". More than just well made jigsaws, this game has character, visual beauty, and emotion. The visual/atmosphere style is unique and beautiful, right from the moment you open the game into the intro sequence. It's for this that the game really shines and stands out as a unique and valuable experience to me. Highly recommend!!!
