I remember a story that was shown in the newspaper a few years ago, there was a period when the actions of active poachers increased in africa, animals that were hunted by poachers, and if I remember correctly these were elephants, ran to a wild animal shelter that people have set up to take care of injured, sick or weak beasts and get them ready to return them to the wild. These elephants were aware that that place was safe, and that that place is out of reach for poachers or other life-threatening dangers, and that's not nothing, ok you have horse owners with horses, pet owners with cats and dogs, elephant owners in india, and with a good connection and care there is a high chance that these animals will find their way back to their safe places/people, but wild animals have no owner ... This would not be possible without money, and it must now be a coincidence that with every sale of 'Rhythm of the Universe: Ionia' a small part of the purchase price goes to an organization that is committed to teaching care, first aid and shelter for wild beasts called 'Wildlife Warriors' They train others with the necessary knowledge, who can then use this knowledge in practice and also pass on tips and tricks to others. But now about the game. Rhythm of the Universe: Ionia is a well-produced VR game in my opinion, I noticed that a number of people are not happy with the gameplay time of the game, which is not unintelligible, but I certainly don't have a bad opinion about this. The gameplay and interactivity is comparable to what other similar vr games have to offer, walk (and climb) through the world that takes you through the story, search and solve puzzles, objectives, these puzzles are also sound and rhythmically bound so take care for your rhythmic feeling. But what I think is worth in this game the impression I had very quickly You can watch my first session in the game here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGjHkw9O64w It felt more like a high-quality interactive VR animation film than an extensive VR adventure, but really impressive! Do you remember the Avatar movie? No, not the last air bender, but the one with the giant smurfs? This game has many similarities that can also be seen from the movie, alien-like nature, luminescent plants, luminous floating critters, fairytale environments, and perhaps most impressive, the wild beasts, their creations are so strange but so beautiful, great to see, all this can also be experienced with very sharp and beautiful visuals and this is something you just have to watch if you have VR headset.
2 MIN Video Review
https://youtu.be/Zhz2f3adRU4
Written Review
Rhythm of the Universe is a beautiful game that manages to capture the feeling of a majestic, alien forest, albeit for a brief time. The plantlife and fauna feel like they're out of Rayman 2, or Avatar. Everything glows, and works in inexplicable ways. It was great when I ran into that I could just study and move around. Moments with alien creatures are really exciting, and playing instruments scattered throughout the game is fun. Unfortunately, most objects and environments are restrictive and static. You will not be able to move most plants, and there are invisible walls that impede you from taking closer looks at points of interest. There is both a walking and teleporting system. Although I found that the former was frustrating to use, and I would have liked an option to move a bit faster. When I wasn't trying to take the scenery in, it was painfully slow. Thankfully you can use both if you set it up that way. Puzzles are of a moderate difficulty, and satisfying enough. You do get to do some interesting stuff that I'll leave for you to discover. The only gameplay aside from that are the climbing sections. They can be quite liberating, as most of the times you have a lot of freedom in where you climb to, but they can be a bit tiring and tedious. You go to great heights though, which can be terrifying or thrilling, depending on your perspective. The two main characters are kids, so your companion is quite excitable and doesn't have much to offer other than pushing the story forward, which is fine. As for the story, it's mildly interesting, and didn't grip me as much as the actual locations did. I progressed through the game to discover more of the world, and not necessarily to unfold the the story. The main problem with the game, is it's incredibly short. I take my time in games, especially with nice scenery. I played around with plants and animals, and took the atmopshere in. Even with all that, I beat the game in 70 minutes. On a side note, the intro cutscene is a flat screen movie that plays infront of you. It felt strange to not be in a realised world, since you know... we're in VR, but it's only a minor complaint. Also I ran into a few bugs that will most likely be ironed out in the future, but they ruined my immersion momentarily. In the end, it was all a great experience, but left me wanting more. Puzzles were enjoyable, experimenting with interactables in the world peaked my curiosity, and there were memorable moments that I really loved! I recommend the game only if you if you are looking for a fun and magical world to be in. Gameplay is limited, and there are restrictions, so you should be aware of that when purchasing, but it is still really pleasant to be surrounded by the cool environment. If that sounds ok to you, then go for it! Otherwise, grabbing it on sale is probably recommended.
Looks like this game has a great designers, but modeling is outdated and looks really bad. Bindings are terrible. Move tumbstick to the left - and you'll turn to the right. Inverted snapturns? Rly? You can turn on locomotion in settings, but if you do so - there is no way you can make first step into tutorial. That requires tp, that you just turnd off in menu before. Speaking of menu. You can't acces menu in game by defaul bindings. Only restart the game. And if you open steam menu while ingame - your controllers start to continiously vibrate. Maybe this bugfest is only for WMR - idk, check yourself. So many bugs for 10 minutes of play. I'm done. This game should've been delayed for a few months or been in "early acces" status.
Played on Valve Index Ok, I got some mixed feelings about this. I had the game in the wishlist for quite some time, it delivers what was shown in the trailers, it's trully beautiful. The scenary, at least, the character are ugly AF. Although the game is great looking, it has some huge design flaws that are hard to digest, like when I had to start the game all over just because I wanted to change the volume of it. The movement feels like from an early 2016 vr game, it's like the devs never played VR before.... really, it bugs me how awful the controls are. The puzzles were getting better but I had enough when I dropped from a ladder and the character started falling endlesly. Did they play test this thing?? I faced a lot of game breaking bugs and I played for half an hour. Sadly, refunded. Even though it's cheap, it's not worth it in it's current state.
Played just a bit but i can already say: Great sound design. Just play with a good headphone and get eargasms.
Reviewed using an Index I will start with the negatives. If a point I raise does not bother/concern you, please brush it off and skip to the next paragraph :) Supports seated? This is a criticism not unique to this title by any means. Its honestly a checkbox most devs tick regardless and that bothers me. Let me put it like this. If you went into a store to buy a table, and the salesperson came up to you and said "this supports standing", you might look at the legs to see if they extend, or under the base to see if you can partition it and raise a section... only to see nothing of the sort. Then ask "How exactly does it support standing?", "Well, you can just stand at the table and bend down to eat your dinner for example!" So, this game supports seated VR in about the same way your table supports standing to eat dinner is what Im getting at. Locomotion - Unless you are very new to VR, you are familiar with teleport/blink/dash/smooth. Personally, I like full and unrestricted loco, or at least as much as makes sense to have in any given game. This game makes the odd choice of coupling turning with your preferred method. So if you want smooth, you cannot turn on the spot at all (as it now strafes). Only with teleport is turning on the spot available, and at that its snap turn only. It would be nice to unlink these and allow smooth turning. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2608321005 Index Controls There is no finger tracking. Not that I find this to be a big deal, but some want to know. I would have preferred if grip was to grab (as the tutorial suggests it should be even!) instead of the trigger. In game menu - I couldnt see any way to access the main menu after loading into the game, so if you want to change control settings or graphics you need to kill the app and reload. I discovered this when I fell through the world (this only happened once) and after a half a minute of falling realised it was my only choice to kill the game, which brings me to the my next point. Checkpoints - Perhaps a minor point considering its not a very long game, but there is no 'save and quit' and its unclear when you have reached a selectable chapter. How long to beat? The credits were rolling for me with 72 minutes playtime (which included 2 reloads). So a little over an hour. Performance - The game is fairly taxing maxed out. However there are a number of settings which should mean its playable on most things rated as "VR capable", I wouldnt want to be too low end tho. At default SS (150%), with in games settings maxed at 4/4 and res left at 1.0 the game was a bit of a rollercoaster on the GPU (3090), typically in the 60%s usage but frequently spiking to 100% hitting the power limit (410W), with a typical clock at 1995. I tried at 120Hz, 90Hz, at max, and tested it for about 10 minutes after I finished the game at lower settings of 3/4 which didnt have as much of an impact as I thought - still typically in the 60%s usage, just the spikes were less frequent. It was smooth for the most part regardless of setting, with just a few instances of frame drops. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2608321363 Is it any good? I dont feel like I am the target audience for this game. Its a slower paced story, with some light puzzles. I think a younger person who enjoys a pantomime would like this however. It sounded great, with quality audio and good voice acting which they cast well. The world - small as it was - was pretty and detailed in parts which I must give praise for. If you enjoy slower paced games and taking time with the environment, then I would recommend this for you. This game was received free via the curator program. People who are new to VR will probably like this "game", I think it would be a good introduction to VR. But as a person who has a lot of hours in VR, I didn't enjoy the game. It feels more like a movie than a game. The game mechanics feels off, and the puzzles are way too easy. The game is about 1 hour long. I barely got into the story before it was over. The game's strong suit is the environment,( it's really beautiful) which is done really well. But the locomotion option (tp only atm) does not allow you to really enjoy the environment which is a shame . I like what the devs are going for here but I was still left disappointed.
Just no. Just using the main menu by hand was a bad sign. You cant add free movement as an after thought. This will just cause getting stuck for no reason because you have to teleport to a specific point to continue. Everything the game has to offer is immersion breaking which is sad because the trailer looked really promising. Performance is horrible.
What a beautiful journey! I love the design of this game, the breathtakingly gorgeous environment, mysterious colorful aliens and glowing life forms. The music tracks are absolutely stunning! I played this game with my kids watching the screen, they got really absorbed in the story! It's such a fun and friendly game! It's also great that the players get to participate in the fight to protect wildlife with the "Wildlife Warriors". All the best to the Rotu Entertainment and team "Ionia". I'll look forward to their future releases.
Really poor experience (because it is not a game). Bad animations, only teleportation, sound cut suddenly...avoid
