The Shin Megami Tensei series has, bar none, the best JRPG combat system in my opinion. It's quick. It rewards careful planning and strategy, it's nearly infinitely customizable and expressive--this combat system has just about everything I'm looking for in a JRPG. This is a series that started out as a classic dungeon crawler (and there is a bit of that still in this game, but nothing so complex as SMT Strange Journey or SMT 3 Nocturne) but I really enjoyed the more open exploration in this game. The environments are still a bit puzzlly to get around and to find all the hidden goodies, but the added openness really made the whole experience more enjoyable for me. I love the setting and the main beats of the story in this game (who doesn't love a good post-apocalyptic Tokyo?) The lore is quite interesting as it brings in elements of folklore and religion from all over the world. That said, the quality of the moment-to-moment character writing is quite a step down from SMT IV. There are more than a few eye-rolling dialog moments. This is still one hell of a game though. Easy to recommend to anyone who loves creature collectors or just JRPGS in general.
Good game, difficulty spikes can get brutal at times
The vengeance fix many stuff, adding more story and new demons and their forms, but this is basically a game hardly damaged from the fact it had to come out for switch, so forget dangeons to explore, you will mostly run in 4-5 big open maps back and forth doing secondary missions or completism. One things very bad is the fact that the endgame grinding is not existent, you will have to find a spat where mitama spawn and grind there, or buy the dlc, it's like they did this on purpose to force us to buy the dlc. There are also no endgame dungeons for the same reasons i talked above. Still i played 182 hours cause it's a shin mgeami tensei, but this game lose a lot against the old games made with more than 10$ and a garbage hardware where the game had to come out. If you want a real shin megami tensei try shin megami tensei strange journey, a digital devil saga or a devil survivor.
说什么呢,冲就对了
Not a very story heavy game, a lot of gameplay, a lot of tedious grinding, but what is a jrpg without tedious grinding. Also the art and music is great.
