Thanks to the eastern europe conflict the game was on hold. In August of 2022 1 developer came back to "work" on the game, or so he said. There has been no progress, the official discord is pepsi. Abandonware like many, many and many more EA games.
DO NOT PURCHASE: the games development is practically nonexistent due to the war in ukraine. Consider the game dead as of the time of review.
I just want to say first I'm shocked Shores Unknown is in Early Access. Its story is good, combat is enjoyable, and I really enjoy exploring the world. I want to see more! The characters can specialize and gain abilities dependent upon the weapons they are using. I really like that and can see some interesting choices being made for the characters. Also, the player has to be aware of what armor they are choosing for their character, along with the weapons. You don't want to slow down a character that should be swift, for example. Combat can be tough with the RNG sometimes. The player can choose targets and abilities, but there are no options for movement or placement. I found it helpful to be aware of what enemies the player is targeting and what the situation is possibly going to look like in the next turn. An example is if most of your melee is in one area, you might not want to send a squishier melee off to another area alone with multiple enemies. It doesn't always save a fight, but it's helpful. Don't sweat it too much because your characters will get stronger as you fight more and find weapons and armor. The story and world building are excellent in Shores Unknown. I streamed this game as a showcase for The Indie Game Collective and then streamed it again one week and kept coming back to it every day because I wanted to see more. I lost track of time and enjoyed the world immensely.. Shores Unknown does not hold your hand through every quest by giving the player a mark on the map each time. Sometimes the player must find the answers to a quest on their own. This forces the player to explore nooks and crannies that might have otherwise gone unnoticed. There are definitely some JRPG and Final Fantasy inspiration in combat and art. Shores Unknown’s polygonal art is layered and done beautifully well. The world is interesting and fun to explore. The music is excellent. Some sounds and art remind me of For The King. The RNG is reminiscent of FTK too. My favorite part of the game is the dungeon crawling through the mine. The only criticism I do have of the game is that the dialogue seemed a little awkward, but I think it’s an easy enough fix. The boss design is interesting and fun. Unknown Shore’s story kept me wanting to push forward to see more. I know the devs put out a statement recently about why they have to take a break from working further on the game, but I hope in the future things will work out and we’ll get to see more of the Shores Unknown world. I definitely recommend it and want to thank The Indie Game Collective for giving me a chance to showcase the game.
I wanted to like this; I thought the combat was going to make this game pretty cool, but it is way too bare-boned. May revisit after it's released, but the game feels like it's made more for kids rather than someone who was looking for a great RPG Tactical gridless game. Too easy, not for me.
I agree with everybody else in here that the combat is ridiculous! You have no control at all. It’s very disappointing because I was looking forward to this game. Now I just wish I could refund it but unfortunately I waited too long to try it out after I bought it.
This game is so fun. I for like the skill leveling system. I would like to have more fights in the game. Random spawn of re-spawning creatures in certain areas would be great. If it was a boss killed or something particular to the story line, there could be something or someone else in that area. It would be cool if you could have your entire group in your party. You are only allowed 5 people; but, there are time you fight about twice that. This would also alleviate characters being left out of the part and missing out on experience. Just on fun factor alone I recommend this game.
Having a lot of fun with this one. Not sure exactly how I'd categorise this one, but I think, like other, that this can be best described as a sort of JRPG with a more dynamic camera. Combat isn't too deep but it does the trick. The world is gorgeous, the team did a fantastic job really pushing how beautiful low-poly can get. The story so far has been rather simple but engaging. Mechanically Shores Unknown isn't all that deep but is solid overall. This is an easy recommend when on sale, especially if you enjoy trying out various indie RPGs.
devs abandoned the game on march, stay way from this game
There's no surprises here if you read my First Impressions. I've finished @ShoresUnknown so far (EA so only first half available at the moment - 15 hours) and walked away feeling that empty feeling you get after a good story when you're not quite ready to move on. Need moooore! Took a couple hours before it grabbed me but then I was hooked. Features an interesting story with well-integrated side quests and fluid tactical turn-based combat. Low poly art is top shelf. Love it.
