About
Shape Shifter: Formations is an action twin-stick shooter with rogue-lite elements, where you must destroy hordes of geometric enemies alone or with a friend. Select your ship and combine a large variety of weapons, abilities and infinitely stacking upgrades to craft your own unique build.
Choose from a wide variety of ships each with their own unique active and passive abilities, ranging from shocking tesla towers and a burning laser, to clones that mirror your attacks or the ability to slow time around you. Pick the ship the suits your play style and outfit it with a weapon of your choice. Every ship and weapon has it's own unique skill tree, allowing you to alter and improve the way they play via changing abilities/passives and gaining new ones.
Survive against swarms of enemies before fighting challenging bullet-hell bosses each with their own unique attacks and abilities. Customize your own difficulty with many modifiers from electrifying the walls, to giving enemies elemental infusions. Higher difficulties can unlock prime boss variants for an even greater challenge and further rewards.
Gain experience by killing enemies to improve your ship with infinitely stacking upgrades that allow you to tailor your build as you play. Inflict a barrage of status effects on your enemies, or summon a swarm of constructs with their own weaponry. Extensive meta-progression between runs allows you to gain permanent upgrades, new game mechanics, and tons of new ships, weapons, and upgrades for future runs.

Extremely fun twin stick shooter that is easy to get into. The progression feels really satisfying as you start with a weak little triangle and got stronger and stronger later in the game and get to see all the flashy effects in the late game! Love the meta progression system too as no run feels like it's wasted.
Great addition to the genre with it's own flair. Gameplay feels good and the upgrade system gives you that "one more run" hook.
Fun shape game.
My initial review is no longer valid; you just need to set some of the video settings, and it should run to normal loads. With that out of the way. PHENOMENAL game. Absolute recommendation. It's a real nice twist on the "Vamp Survivors" formula. It feels really well tuned so far. And there's lots of meta-progression to work towards. If you're the type of player who is good with maneuvering, 'foot work', this is a great game for that! Work on dodges and getting i-frames; then you'll be set.
毒性越玩越強,數值設計得很好,可以無痛成長漸漸越打越後面
Great Game. Gets better the longer i play.
good
THE GAME HAS SERIOUS PERFORMANCE ISSUES THAT NEED TO BE ADDRESSED, ELSE REVIEW WOULD'VE BEEN POSITIVE I played on the steam deck but I'm sure what I'm observing is not exclusive to the deck. SSF is one of those games where your build can spiral completely out of control since it features endless looping (with increasing enemy count and power) and powerups. This on its own is fine, and it's expected that at some point the amount of action overwhelms CPU/GPU capacity. But it also has a heat/NG+ mechanic ("threat level") which even at a moderate setting (threat level 25) causes FPS to drop to 1-2 on the first loop for multiple seconds. Not a gut feeling, measured with the performance overlay. This is completely unacceptable as you're immobile during those lag spikes and if you aren't filled to the gills with healing perks your run just ends at this point. As it doesn't happen with all builds and the game generally runs very smooth I'm sure this is an issue specific to certain parts of the game code and can be fixed. Sometimes the game also comes to a complete standstill even when not much is going on (the developer in me thinks: maybe a GC pause?). Also easily a run ender. So devs please get your act together because the game is really good otherwise! Geometry wars fans will feel right at home and still get gameplay that's unique enough to not just be a copy of GW. Lots of different enemies and fun bosses, the glowy over the top graphics we know and love, plenty perks and ships/guns to keep you entertained for a long time, at least in the early game. I do have some minor gripes: - unfair bosses: some attack patterns literally cannot be dodged because they are faster than your ship or bigger than the dodge range. Others are just too random (especially the final bosses) to git gud - essentially you gotta go big on healing in order to complete multiple loops. - needs more audio or visual cues, I certainly don't want to check the overlay in the corner to see if my dodges have recharged, or health is getting critical. - in the late game builds pretty much converge to "deal every type of damage on hit, apply healing and hope for the best". Not a huge problem but more than 4 loops usually aren't very entertaining. - way too many perks that aren't viable (too little upsides or substantial downsides). - some text is absolutely microscopic, barely legible on steam deck. - field of view is too restricted, camera needs to zoom out more (could be a button trigger) - music is kinda mid but eh, it's fine.
can't get enough of this game. geometry wars on steroids.
great game, a lot of fun, visually appealing
