Choose from a wide variety of ships each with their own unique active and passive abilities, ranging from shocking tesla towers and a burning laser, to clones that mirror your attacks or the ability to slow time around you. Pick the ship the suits your play style and outfit it with a weapon of your choice. Every ship and weapon has it's own unique skill tree, allowing you to alter and improve the way they play via changing abilities/passives and gaining new ones.
Survive against swarms of enemies before fighting challenging bullet-hell bosses each with their own unique attacks and abilities. Customize your own difficulty with many modifiers from electrifying the walls, to giving enemies elemental infusions. Higher difficulties can unlock prime boss variants for an even greater challenge and further rewards.
Gain experience by killing enemies to improve your ship with infinitely stacking upgrades that allow you to tailor your build as you play. Inflict a barrage of status effects on your enemies, or summon a swarm of constructs with their own weaponry. The core gameplay is smooth and nice. Effects, sounds, visuals are cool. The RNG is horrible. I don't need 19 upgrades to my Corrosion damage because I wasn't offered a way to apply Corrosion even once. I decided to go with crit and crit chance. I got 2 upgrades for crit chance. Cool! The rest of the game offered me upgrades that reduce crit chance or do different things. Amazing, thanks. So, it's so much uncontrolled and uncurrated RNG that I hate every level up. On top of that, no auto-fire option. I don't need auto-aim. I just want to be able to NOT HOLD the LMB for 20 minutes. There are tons of other small things that make me mad. But the top two are already enough to uninstall.
Great game. One of the few that I enjoyed enough to 100%. I've won a run with every ship and every weapon at mastery level 50, which is not something I thought I would have enough interest to do at the start. Let that be a testament to its great game-play and replayability. The game plays well and performance is solid. There are some odd UI behaviours when in the pause menu or start menu, as well as one skill tree item which is fully functional but has a title of "TBD" for some reason. My only real gripe is that there is no option to auto-fire (separate from auto-aim). 95% of the game is holding the mouse button. I get why auto-aim could be controversial but I think auto-fire would be purely QoL.
Full Video Review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wImWVwgUcU This game does take a little bit to get going but once you’ve unlocked most of the skills in the skill tree, the game becomes fantastic. Not only are in-game upgrades very interesting and allow a crazy amount of diversity, but the game allows players to reroll, banish, lock, transmutate and dual select upgrades resulting in some actual thought provoking strategies when leveling up throughout the entire run. I cannot remember the last time I had a Bullet Heaven game get me this excited about choosing upgrades even throughout the late game. With the very impressive amount of unlocks and pre-run customization options, I see myself coming back to this game often. Definitely one of my highest recommandations for my series 🌶️
This brings me back to the Geometry Wars days back on Xbox 360. Great game to sink a few hours into. The unlock progression is great and the continued support from the devs keeps the game fresh!
This game deserved a lot more success than it got. The visuals are great and despite being busy in the more hectic moments, I rarely got "lost" in the mix. The tag system is really well done and dramatically improves the roguelike elements over similar titles, allowing you to promote and blacklist tags and giving you a well-balanced level of control of your upgrades against the massive library of choices. I've got a lot of bullet heaven titles in my collection, and this one is hands-down my favorite. Hope more people get a chance to play it.
Extremely fun twin stick shooter that is easy to get into. The progression feels really satisfying as you start with a weak little triangle and got stronger and stronger later in the game and get to see all the flashy effects in the late game! Love the meta progression system too as no run feels like it's wasted.
my laptop has crashed due to this game because my build was so broken, reccomended, would crash again
Shape Shifter: Forming your lunch hour
The Good

Shape Shifter Formations is one of those games that instantly clicks on a mechanical level. Transforming between forms isn’t just a gimmick, it’s the core of every encounter and puzzle, and the game embraces that with confidence. Each form feels deliberately crafted, distinct, and meaningful.
Combat is surprisingly clean and readable. Even when the action gets hectic, the game keeps its clarity. You always know why you got hit (or why you didn’t), and mastering the flow of form-switching feels rewarding in that “just one more try” way.
Visually, the game is simple but stylish. Clean lines, silhouettes, and crisp colors make the battlefield easy to parse. There’s a charm in its minimalism, and the transformations give the whole thing a tactile feel.
The difficulty curve is fair. The game doesn’t punish experimentation butinstead it encourages it, which is refreshing. Failures feel like “my fault, but in a good way” and successes feel earned.
Runs are fast. It’s a game you can pick up for fifteen minutes and still feel like you made progress, which makes it perfect for people who don’t have the time or energy for two hour sessions.
The Bad

While the mechanics shine, the game sometimes suffers from repetition. Certain room types or enemy formations start feeling familiar a bit too quickly, especially if you’re doing several runs back-to-back.
Progression can feel thin. You unlock new forms and upgrades, yes, but the “meta” lacks the weight or long-term direction that roguelites often rely on. Some players may find the reward loop not compelling enough for long-term play.
The difficulty can spike without warning. A run can feel perfectly manageable until suddenly you’re thrown into a formation that punishes your current build harshly. Not unfair, but occasionally frustrating.
Narratively, there isn’t much to latch onto. Or phrased differently - nothing. Which isn’t inherently bad, but if you like story-driven experiences, there isn’t anything here to sink your teeth into.

Conclusion
Shape Shifter Formations is a tight, focused, fast-paced little action game that knows exactly what it wants to be. It doesn’t overstay its welcome and doesn’t drown itself in unnecessary systems. If you enjoy games built around mastering a simple but flexible core mechanic and you don’t need a narrative to motivate your runs this one is absolutely worth your time. It’s stylish, satisfying, and occasionally brutal, and when everything clicks, it feels fantastic. Well worth picking up, especially if you're craving something quick, clean, and mechanically gratifying.
It's pretty good for that Geometry Wars fix.
An underrated gem. I have played a ton of popular rogue-likes on the market these days and few come close to the dopamine hits this game delivers. You will feel very weak at first, but it starts to pick up quick after unlocking some more stuff and beating some runs. There is A LOT of depth here, especially after unlocking skill trees for the ships and weapons. The bosses are brutal and there are endless combinations of skills and upgrades to make every run feel unique. The only complaint I have is that there is only local coop and no dedicated online coop. If they add this, as well as more content in the future, it will easily be one of the best rouge-likes on the market. ♥♥♥♥ is absolute peak.
