The largest amphibious operation of WW2, and a two-month campaign in the hell of the Norman bocage. Will you manage to make the decisive breakthrough before the Germans recover? Or will you succeed, as Rommel wanted, in crushing the Allied landing as close to the beaches as possible?

A modern classic that drew me back into the SGS series of games. Great artwork and music. The gameplay is made better by the use of a stacking mechanic to keep armies focused. Check out the full review here at LT Gaming https://youtu.be/gTF5HOaGdhU?si=RKMGbAwif2CKQ69Y
The developer's encyclopedic knowledge of Overlord, and fitting all that into the tried and true SGS battle presentation style, makes this game stand out. It's a history lesson packed into multiple scenarios, from the grand campaign to smaller segments like the Cobra offensive. From the landings, to shore bombardment, to tactical and carpet bombing, from the beaches to the bocage hedge-rows, from paratroopers to armored spearheads, from the artifical ports to traffic control - every element of Overlord comes into play. Highly recommended.
There's something really off about this game and I don'e mean the random bugs where you click on an available card at the wrong time and it locks up your entire turn until you exit and reload (but those kinds of bugs at this stage always make me suspicious of the code we can't actually see). I say off because I probably played the first 10 or so turns 6-7 times and I was really just learning by trial and error. I would note the tutorials cover about 60% of the game and perhaps researching the manual, discussions and chats might lead you to another 20% but the remaining 20% is just going to remain a mystery. Why suddenly Omaha beach has no supply without another unit within 4 spaces ... mystery. Why your combat factors shift down when you don't select a card that would shift them up .... mystery. But such is life I assume. No the real question for me is why I can play my first 15 turns on overlord against the computer and never lose an airborne unit and then over the course of the next 15 turns never have that result repeated again. Assuming random odds the chance of getting 15 in a row of black on roulette are high but the chances of getting 15 in a row of red immediately after a run of 15 in a row of black are astronomical. I have the feeling that there is a lot of code in here that is buggy particularly when it comes to the "random" results experienced during gameplay. Anyway - I will keep playing for a bit and see if it improves but I think I already know where this is headed.
No manual? As far as I can tell, there is no dedicated manual for the game (so far). Finding a generalized "manual" is a chore. I will do what I need to do to learn by playing, but I don't understand the lack of instructions. The tutorials are not much of a he!p, either. In spite of this, I'll give it a thumbs up. We have long needed another operational-scale wargame of the Normandy campaign. Edit: I got a quick, helpful response from a developer, which has helped greatly. I highly recommend "Overlord."
Direction Omaha.
I am impressed with the amount of historical detail. Looks good too.
Poor interface, quite buggy and the rules, especially around combat resolution, are a bit suspect. Better Overlord/Normandy games out there.
It’s a pretty good entry level operational wargame. It’s a little hard to understand how some battles are lost and won but it’s still enjoyable. There are some small typos and errors occasionally but I’m sure those will get patched.
The game is very intense, but if you can handle the situations, you can win just like in other SGS games. Overall, it's fun and more challenging than usual, though it has quite a few bugs like other SGS games
