Information / Review English
SGS Pacific D-Day is a strategy/war game developed by Strategy Game Studio.
Gameplay / Story
Battle of Tarawa: At 5:00 a.m. firefights between naval artillery and coastal guns began. The bombers arrived a little later than planned. Eventually, after this attack, the island was completely blanketed in smoke and smoke and it had become almost impossible to target point targets like the smaller, well-fortified Japanese machine gun positions. Battle of Saipan: Saipan was under German administration from 1899 to 1914. After the departure of the German colonial troops in 1918, the Japanese Empire took over the island and built an airfield there in 1930. Saipan and Tinian were upgraded to strong forts in 1941, while the island of Guam, captured by Japanese soldiers in early 1942, was fortified in 1943. At the end of 1942, around 6,000 soldiers were stationed on Saipan, who were reinforced by a further 20,000 in the course of 1943. The Battle of Tinian: The Battle of Tinian was an American landing operation as part of the conquest of the Marianas Islands during the Pacific War of World War II. On July 24, 1944, 6000 soldiers of the 5th Amphibious Corps with 200 amphibious tanks landed on the Mariana Island of Tinian. The island was defended by 8050 Japanese soldiers. The American marines finally broke enemy resistance on July 28, and Tinian was considered secure by August 1, although scattered Japanese soldiers continued to fight. The Battle of Peleliu: On September 15, 1944, the 1st Marine Division began landing as planned. On the way to the beach, the Marines in their Amtracs were still quite confident of victory because of the damage that the US 3rd Fleet had inflicted on Peleliu. However, when the Amtracs reached a coral reef several hundred yards offshore, the Japanese gun batteries opened fire. The Battle of Iwo Jima: The Battle of Iwo Jima refers to the battle for the island of Iwo Jima, which is just under 24 square kilometers in size, which was fought towards the end of World War II as part of the Pacific War between the armed forces of Japan and the USA. This extremely bloody and costly battle lasted from February 19 to March 26, 1945. Today it is considered a prime example of a classic amphibious landing operation. The game offers you many different scenarios that give you the options of lightning fast offensives, defensive work to defend your defenses, amphibious assaults, but also air attack options made it into the game. What I liked very much and what is striking is that decisions that affect the economy, industry and production that are involved in the long war have an impact. The different scenarios offer a good variety, regardless of whether they only go for a few laps or several, as each brings its own experiences with it. There are several ways to solve the game's event cards and the different situations, for example solving a situation diplomatically or using military, political or economic means to conquer a territory or make room.
Per
+ forgotten history + lets you immerse yourself in wartime + handsome card effects + symmetrical resources of the armies + good interface + suitable background music + several units are available +Tutorial
cons
- no achievements and trading cards available yet - Price so far set a bit too high in my opinion
Conclusion
SGS Pacific D-Day shows you forgotten history of yesteryear and lets you play it out strategically. Clear purchase recommendation for those who like history and are interested in it
Information / Review Deutsch
SGS Pacific D-Day ist ein Strategie/Kriegsspiel, welches von Strategy Game Studio entwickelt wurde.
Gameplay / Story
Having played wargames for many years, I nevertheless had only superficial knowledge about the island-hopping campaigns in the Pacific in WWII. SGS Pacific D-Day corrected that deficiency for me, to some great extent. I've come away with a new awe for the forces on both sides of the great confilct. From the Japanese defense plans, use of terrain, construction of redoubts, tunnels, bunkers, fire zones, tactics - to the air, naval, and land forces of the United States; the invasion planning, the combined arms, the bombardments, amphibious assaults, equipment, unrelenting fighting - and the bravery and determination on both sides. It's all there in this game. It's really a masterful product, one of the most enjoyable historical gaming experiences I've had.
Excellent player games. Good historical feel without getting bogged down in too much detail. Remind me of the old SPI quad game series. Five games for the price of one. I highly recommend this.
I am no strategy wizard by any means but I have been having a lot of fun with this game. I like sipping my drink while perusing the troops and equipment in the field, checking on my replacements and this game has it all and a surprising amount of depth of play. If you play wargame style board games I think you are missing out if you don't have this one. The Dev answers questions and patches the game very quickly. I like how I can play this as slow as I want or as fast as I want. The price is a great deal. Oh did I mention it is like 5 different games in one for the price and you can play from both sides so I guess that makes it like 10 games in one. I advise picking this one up it a good one.
Very historically accurate as a game can be. Being a US Marine this game has special meaning to me and my brother Marines who came before me. Semper Fi.
Just remember: You are not fighting to beat the enemy. You are fighting to win more VP than them. This is the lesson a SGS game teaches me. I really love these games, and this one is a great deal of fun. It's actually five games (ten if you play both sides) and each has its unique features. I have only played Tarawa so far. Lost on VPs but played to the bitter end. In my timeline, FDR would have fired a bunch of USMC brass after my performance!
This is probably a sign of my age. I have tried repeatedly to get this game to work, without success. There is no manual that I can find. There are 5 poorly executed youtube clips that provide information on particular aspects of the game but leave gaping holes in understanding the overall game mechanics. Every attempt I have made over 8 hours has resulted in the programme completely locking up. There may be an interesting game hiding in the programme somewhere but I have given up the will to live trying to make sense of this product. If you are tempted by the prospect of hours of frustration, then good luck
A very strong addition to the SGS series. My favourite subject matter apart from Halls of Montezuma. The scenarios are just about right for a single sitting playthrough. Only found one bug so far and it was not gamebreaking. I highly recommend it for people who are interested in turn based strategy games.
I played Tarawa as the USA and found it quite challenging to meet the victory conditions. The card system insures satisfying replay-ability and you get 5 of the biggest island assault in the pacific (except Okinawa). The game is up the usual high standard that SGS places on historical accuracy. Its great value for money.
Great variety of locations to choose from. Brings back childhood memories. The only negative is that for my old eyes some of the text is a bit to small. Enjoyed many hours already with hundreds more to come
